"Are we there yet?" Dakota and Dallas simultaneously asked their father.
It wasn't uncommon for the identical twins to speak together or finish each other's sentences. Family and friends who knew them best often wondered if they shared the same mind. The girls were so in tune with each other that they seldom disagreed on anything.
However, though Dakota and Dallas were uncannily close, they did possess individual traits that were distinct. This was perhaps most obvious in the way they dressed. Dakota's current outfit would be considered provocative by most people, but were accepted as typical for the girl by her father and sister: a black long-sleeved fishnet top with a hot pink bra visibly underneath, skintight black leather pants, and black stiletto heels.
The bold, attention-seeking outfit matched Dakota's personality. She had been dancing at the local high end strip club for almost 3 years to supplement her income. However, the young blonde made such a good living as a part-time dancer that she had recently quit her full-time job. Dakota was carefree and vivacious, and often followed her heart without considering the consequences, which made her both endearing and exasperating to her family.
Dallas may have been her sister's identical twin, but they definitely did not dress alike. She currently wore silk scarf with a dressy top, tight jeans, and heels. Though she and Dakota both wore their hair in a ponytail, their outward presentation couldn't have been more in contrast.
The twins were different in their own unique ways. They were each other's best friends and, despite the recent loss of their mother, retained an unwaveringly positive view on life. They supported each other even if they didn't necessarily agree, remained united on all fronts, and loved each other unequivocally.
The sisters loved their father Ruben dearly, too.
And they were also united in the incestual love that they shared with him.
"Are we there yet?" the twins repeated.
Reuben threw them a lopsided grin. His gaze would've remained on their youthful beauty had he not been forced to keep at least one eye on the road as he drove. The man, like everyone who knew the family, agreed that Dakota and Dallas had inherited their late mother's appearance. 22 years old, standing at 5'3", and barely weighing over 100bs, they possessed unblemished alabaster skin and long blonde hair that was usually tied in a ponytail, highlighting their sleek neck and shoulders. 34B breasts were splendidly proportional to their tight, compact bodies. And while Dakota and Dallas were relatively short and petite, they possessed noticeably long legs, making them appear much taller than in actuality.
The twins shared the same penetrating green eyes, but Dakota's always seemed to be twinkling with some inner joke that only she was aware of. Her poignant cheekbones and expression appeared sharper, even harsher, than her sister's. Dallas. By comparison, possessed a much calmer and delicate mien.
The girls' differences radiated in their demeanor.
Dakota and Dallas reminded Reuben so much their mother Carolina.
Which was to say that the man thought his daughters were breathtakingly beautiful.
It still hurt for Reuben to think about his late wife, who hadn't been gone a year yet. And though the pain would never go away, it was becoming slightly easier to endure because of his daughters' unconditional support. They had begun sleeping with him several months after their mother had passed away. But Reuben knew that their incest wasn't about casual sex or instant gratification.
It was about love.
And it was love that made the man realize that he had been so consumed by Carolina's passing that he had pushed his daughters away. It wasn't intentional, of course, but such was the depths of his depression. He was so grief-stricken that he failed to see that Dakota and Dallas had suffered as much as he did.
It even hurt that he had become unaware of more the mundane aspects of the twins' lives, such as Dakota's car troubles and the fact that Dallas was looking for a new apartment.
Never again,
Reuben swore.
He vowed to always know what was going on in their respective lives and be there for them because they were always there for him.
Reuben smiled at his daughters as he drove, as he always did when he admired their youthful beauty, patted his paunch with one hand. Not only did he stand over a foot taller than them but weighed over a 100bs more, too.
The girls definitely did NOT inherit their good looks from me,
he thought humorously for the countless time.
"Eyes on the road, dad!" Dallas admonished as her father's vacuous stare lingered on her and her sister despite oncoming traffic.
Reuben flushed sheepishly as he returned his attention to driving.
The three of them were seated in the front of Reuben's old beat-up pickup. He hadn't told the twins yet where he was taking them, and was rather enjoying their child-like curiosity and eagerness. The trio were currently driving through an upscaled area that was only about 20 minutes from home.
Finally, Reuben announced, "Ah, here we are."
He veered his pickup into the parking lot of a luxury apartment complex. He exited the vehicle after pulling into an empty spot, and the girls followed. The rental office was nearby, and adjacent to it was a large outdoor swimming pool and a hot tub.
Dallas' eyes narrowed. "I know these apartments. I checked them out last week." She looked at her father curiously. "What are we doing here, dad?"
"Oh, I didn't know you were here last week." Reuben was overdramatic with his feigned innocence. "What did you think about the place?"
The girl sighed wistfully. "These apartments are gorgeous, but out of my price range."
Dakota whistled. "The rent must cost a fortune if you can't afford it on
your
salary!"
"Oh, I can afford it. But I'd like to, you know, still be able to buy food and clothes, and other necessities in life," Dallas replied glibly. Then she looked at her father again and repeated, "What are we doing here, dad? For real."
For real.
Dallas was always using that phrase.
Reuben was giddy now that he finally able to reveal his big surprise. "You're looking for a new apartment, right, little babe?" he began excitedly. "And if I recall correctly, you mentioned, several times, that you
really
like these apartments."
"I did," the girl replied slowly, still confused.
"Then welcome to your new home, Dallas!" When she stared at him uncomprehendingly, Reuben continued, "Starting next month, you'll have a 2-bedroom pad on the top floor with a nice view of the city." His grin grew even broader. "I took the liberty of signing a 12-month lease for you. I hope you don't mind."
"Omigod!" Dakota burst out excitedly. If she was jealous that her father had just given her twin a very generous gift, she was hiding it well. "I'm so happy for you!"
The girls hugged before a stunned Dallas finally collected herself. "
DAD!
" she exclaimed in disbelief. "Why did you do that?"
"Because I want to know that you'll be living in a safe place and close to home."
Dallas threw her arms around her father's neck and kissed him on the cheek. She was almost in tears. "Thank you! I love you so much!"
