Chapter 26

SUMMON THIS DEMON FOR ME

Evening Day 9

My head spun and the dizziness brought me to my knees. The cold cast iron pot calmed me as I pressed it against my clammy forehead.

Keiran's voice was low in my ear, "When I had to beat the memory out of you, I thought it would be the last time I would have to see your face. The last time I would have to take orders from your cunt mother." He grabbed my hair and pulled my head up forcefully to look at him. "I just want to be free." He dragged me by my hair to stand in front of the big book.

A spell to break a Demon's curse laid open in front of me. The box of matches was close to my hand. I quickly scanned down the page.

This was not a Demon banishing spell but a summoning of a Greater Demon. The name of the Greater Demon sat on the tip of my tongue, like a familiar piece of rotting fruit from lifetimes ago.

I sighed, the desperation that Keiran must have felt to want to summon this Demon. "Do you know who this is?" I asked him in the low light. "This Demon will help you for sure, but for a price." I shook my head. "Keiran, this could destroy the entire town, and then it will wreak havoc across the world." I tried to plead some sense into him.

He pulled out a gun from the back of his pants and pointed it at me. "You will do as I say."

A soft moan came from the floor. Roman groaned, becoming conscious. A loud bang from the gun, Roman quieted, and stilled. The weight of his body pulled the three men over to their sides on the floor. Blood pooled around Romans head.

His blood was tangy and sweet. Tears blurred my vision.

"I may not be able to kill you but I can kill everyone you care about." Keiran pointed the gun at Jonny's nephew.

"I'll do it." Yeah, I'll summon this Demon, then send you both to Hell. My anger seethed inside with the memories swirling in my head. The Sex Magic I was trained to do, the Blood Magic I knew from lifetimes before. The Demons though, was something new.

I wiped away my tears and opened the box of matches. Sticking three in my mouth to dampen them with my saliva. I could remember faint memories of ritual with Cer, my partner from the Sex Magic dreams. He was often adorned with thick horns like stag antlers. A different fluid, something a bit more potent, would be used but my anger fueled my Magic and it made no difference now.

"What exactly is it that you want from this Demon, Keiran?" I asked him, placing the soggy matches inside my bra. The knife in my side slowed my movements. I put three more matches in my mouth.

Keiran looked down at his shoes. "I want to be free." He shrugged and sighed.

"Get in the middle of the circle," I instructed him.

He stood in the center and looked at me.

I saw a glimmer of the child he once was. Even young he had been under my mother's influence. I felt responsible for his entrapment and hoped this went well for him. For all of us. I grabbed the box of salt on the table, pocketed the box of matches and poured the salt around only him in the center of the circle. A gun was cocked and I stopped to look at Keiran.

He was pointing the gun at Diego's head. Diego and I briefly exchanged eye contact.

"What are you doing?" Keiran asked through gritted teeth.

"I'm making sure the Demon that you want summoned, stays in here long enough to...grant your wish." I continued my way around the circle, careful to leave all humans, except Keiran outside of the salt line, emptying the box of salt as I circled back. "I'm still confused as to what my mother has to do with any of this." I tried to get information out of him while he was paying attention.

Keiran looked over at me. His eyes black. "It's his fault." He pointed the gun at no one.

I stood still, spinning my soggy matches in my fingers. "I don't understand."

Keiran wiped his tears away with his sleeve. "My Grandmother was married to your cunt mother, I guess she didn't like it when her husband transitioned into a woman. Your bitch mother, or someone she hired, put a curse on my Grandmother and it carried down the bloodline, firstborn, and all that bullshit." Keiran aimed the gun at his own temple. He squeezed the trigger over and over but nothing happened. A clicking sound but no bullets. "I can't even kill myself." He aimed the gun at a chair. A loud bang and the chair fluff spilled forth from the upholstery. The gun was loaded and working. He pointed the gun at Ben. "Continue."

I stood at the North end of the circle. I wasn't sure how I was going to pull this off or how many dead bodies there would be at the end. I inhaled deeply and started the chant from the book, backward. I struck one of the matches on the box and stared into the fire to center myself.

The memories of Magic stirred within me. I rolled my neck adjusting my body for the incoming energy. Its familiar static made my hair rise around me.

I blew out the match with a quick exhale. I said the Magic words in reverse and dropped the match on the inside of the salt circle. I tried to take off my jacket and remembered the knife in my side. I pulled it out quickly while gritting my teeth. As soon as I touched the small vial the pain receded, leaving a warmth in its wake. I shoved it down my bra, against my skin. I threw my jacket next to the wall and tossed the knife next to Diego when Keiran had his back turned. Sweat dripped down the back of my neck mingling with my blood.

Saltwater and Blood were a powerful Magic. I directed that energy to protect the men on the outskirts of the circle.

I moved clockwise to the East. Another soggy match lit, I blew it out and I repeated the Magic words backward. I dropped the match inside the circle. The flames from the candles surrounding the circle shot higher toward the ceiling. The heat in the room rose and sweat dripped down the back of my knees. I removed my boots and leggings and tossed them next to my jacket. I moved to the South of the circle and repeated the steps of the ritual.

Keiran never took the gun off Ben but his eyes were a black void and I didn't think he could actually see the room. His breathing was rapid and sweat dripped down his temples. He pulled his shirt off quickly. His thin, muscled torso was covered in tattoos and scars. The candle's flame sizzled as they grew even higher.

I was sluggish and hot, breathing heavily, the heat made it impossible to feel like I was getting enough oxygen. I said the Magic words in reverse and dropped the match inside the circle. I fell to my hands and knees, the heat oppressive.

"You better fucking finish, or we both know what will happen." Keiran looked around the room nervously.

Maybe he could see? I nodded and crawled to the West of the circle. "I don't want to deal with the Angels just as much as you," I said, breathing heavily. I reached the West and lit the match, letting it burn down to my fingers. I blew out the match softly and dropped the blackened remains of the match inside the circle.

I repeated the words backward. My throat was dry, I almost choked on my tongue. I leaned my head forward and tried to swallow. I had to finish my way around the circle. I crawled my way to the North and lit another match.

I said the Magic words, closing the ritual and finishing the summoning of the Greater Demon for Keiran. I blew out the match. All of the candles extinguished and the room went dark. The sweat on my body was cooling and I shivered. I laid down on my back and tried to catch my breath.

Keiran's voice was faint, "No, no, no, no. That's not what I want."

I sat up on my knees and pulled a match from my bra, lit it and all the candles lit in a wave.

Keiran was suspended in the air. A shadow surrounded him, his face contorted in a silent scream.

I managed to get to my feet. My head spinning with the heat.

A guttural grumble vibrated inside my skull and I grit my teeth against it. It shook the marrow of my bones unpleasantly. I pressed my hands against my head and tried not to vomit from the disgusting feeling. I didn't know how to handle it. I had to get on top of it. "Tell me your name," I demanded of the Demon.

A deep laughter reverberated, I couldn't tell if it was coming from inside me or if the entire universe could hear it. I wanted to dig out my skeleton.

"Tell me your name, Demon," I demanded a second time.

"Tsk Tsk Tsk." The shadow was right in front of me.

The smell alone made me want to turn inside out. I closed my eyes. I couldn't look. "Tell me your name," I whispered, trying to tamper my fear.

"Think hard enough and I'm sure you'll remember. " The voice overwhelmed my senses and everything went black as I fell to the floor.
