Guardian Ch. 10
Cloaked, Guardian closed within a 1/2 mile of the Koogar fleet, as we reconnoitered.
A Koogar cargo carrier, along with three battle cruisers, was stationary, at an altitude of a mile above their base on Sigrisab.
Each of the battle cruisers retained four of their compliment of twelve fighters and one troop transport. There were 25 Koogar aboard, a skeleton crew required for flight operations. The remaining troop roster was planet side.
The same was true of the cargo carrier which had three fighters aboard and two troop transports.
On Gaznor near the coast of the Northern Ocean, they had established a large sprawling base with multiple buildings, barracks, mess halls, offices, factories, hangars, etc., all teeming with Koogars.
This portion of Sigrisab was in the Red Dwarf phase and the scene on the base was bathed in warm dim orange light.
The three land based battle cruisers were parked on an airport along with their compliment fighters and troop transports.
There were two large and two small material transport ships used to ferry raw materials from collection points dotted across Gaznor to the factories for processing or directly to the monstrous cargo carrier in orbit. They would also ferry processed materials to the cargo carrier.
Gaznor had rich Ruselea ore deposits, which when processed produced Ruseleum, a component needed to fuel Koogar interstellar travels.
There were 103 ships were on the ground at the base with 10 fighters on patrol and another 21 in orbit for a total of 124.
On the out skirts of the base grazed a group of large, four legged animals, resembling small dinosaur, herded by Koogars on a type of ATV. The animal's dormant fertile eggs were brought from Koogarie on the cargo carriers to Sigrisab and hatched. The strictly carnivorous Koogar used them for food along with Sigrisab's indigenous animals.
Other than Koogar, there were no intelligent life forms, on the base or the ships in orbit. The Bennoty population, since the Koogar invasion, had been decimated. Nine out ten had been killed or captured, enslaved and ultimately eaten.
The remaining Bennoty were sparsely scattered across the wilds of Gaznor, far from the Koogar base, hiding and elusive.
Checking on Oomulah in the rec room pool, I found her still sleeping. For years she had lived alone, under stress and duress of being locked in a cube on a strange ship in space.
Always on edge from fear of harm from her captors or fear of missing her meeting me, she had not had a peaceful rest since leaving Sigrisab's ocean. Now that she was safe, she would probably sleep for several hours.
Rilea and Bilea said she had not moved and they would continue to watch her.
I materialized beds with covers, for them to sleep, against the wall overlooking the reed mat on which Oomulah slept.
I told them to get some rest. They could respond if Oomulah woke. They said they would and both lay down on one of the beds.
Thanking them, I returned to the Bridge to begin the reclamation of Sigrisab and destruction of the Koogar.
After discussing battle plans with Joy and Lucy, I deployed Guardian's weapons, tachyon particle disseminators.
The battle cruisers were surrounding the cargo carrier. Four of the tachyon particle disseminators targeted the aloft cruisers and carrier, spread a mile or so apart. Eight tachyon particle disseminators acquired the cruisers and fighters on the ground.
When I gave the command to fire, instantly, in one fell swoop, all Koogar's Sigrisab offensive capabilities were eliminated, their teeth pulled.
The forty five hundred or so Koogars left alive on Sigrisab, had no mode of aerial transportation, other than ten single seat fighters, out on patrol, along with one of the small material transports that was on a run to the Ruselea mines.
They only weapons available were the light fighter armament and hand held arms.
Guardian was moved to 500 feet above the airfield of the Koogar base.
The chaotic activity on the base was like hornets erupting and buzzing around looking to sting anything that moved, when their nest is damaged.
I broadcast an audible message, loud enough to be heard anywhere on the base compound demanding to speak with the Base Commander. That he/she come to the center of the airport macadam. If a response was not given within fifteen minutes, one of the base compound buildings would be destroyed.
Fifteen minutes past with a no-show. I targeted one of the larger buildings, possibly a factory or with some other commercial application. When the brilliant flash of purple faded, there was only a smoking crater.
"Ten minutes then another building."
Ten minutes and another building gone.
"Five minutes."
The rising yellow dwarf, brightened the area, as a group of Koogar emerged from one of the buildings and moved to the macadam.
Once there, the group surrounded one Koogar, shoulder weapons presented outward.
"Are you in charge of the Koogar forces invading and occupying Sigrisab?"
"Worm. Show yourself and die."
As he spoke, six of the ten fighters buzzed the airport, searching for an enemy.
They went the way of the dinosaur.
"Are you in charge?"
There was a growling curse.
Five of the troops circling the Koogar disappeared in a purple sparkle.
"Keep a civil tongue in head or lose it. Are you in charge? "
"Yes."
"What is your name?"
"Admiral Twlumboq, Supreme Commander of Zinena."
"Is Zinena the Koogar name for this planet, the planet Sigrisab?"
"Yes."
"Do you have the absolute authority to make decisions for all Zinena, your name for Sigrisab?"
"Yes."
"Twlumboq, I demand your immediate and total surrender. This is not a negotiation. If you don't capitulate in five minutes I will destroy another building or a number of Koogars and shall continue every five minutes until you do. I can and shall continue until there are no Koogars or any of your buildings left standing."
