'Tommy woke me up and let me know that we were 15 minutes out. I looked at my watch and nodded to let him know I was good; he went down the line waking each person up I could hear the pilots talking up front and made sure that Sue was awake also. She was looking at me as I calmly sat there without a care in the world. "What's the matter baby, helo's not as reliable where you're from?" I asked already knowing the answer.'

'She shook her head no and I just laughed knowing that the Kim's has stolen money from everywhere to pay for their lavish lifestyle choices. The military of NK was barely able to feed itself which was why I and so many others had been surprised when they had invaded us. We had been seriously sucker punched by that move, as had the rest of the world, but from what I was able to find out we had managed to get our shit together and were hitting back.'

'I felt the gear come down and knew we were landing and looked out the small porthole windows and could see the landing lights on the pad we were coming into. We all felt the bump and I could see my people all smiling and the rear ramp started down, I got up and pulled Sue up too. My people followed my lead and I lead them off the ramp, I pulled Mike aside and told him to keep our people together, we spotted several people coming over to meet us.'

"John?" The person in the lead asked. "Steve Jackson, Base C.O. we've spoken several times." We shook hands and I introduced Sue and then Mike who had come over to let me know what was going on. "John, I've placed you and your people in the VIP quarters that are next to my place and those Hummers and ambulance are for your people." Steve said.'

'I quickly told Mike to have those that needed medical treatment to get in the ambulances and everyone else to load the Hummers, he was to come with me. He nodded and ran off to carry out my orders. I let Steve know that I would need a field grade JAG officer to take charge of the brief case that I carried, and the local spook was needed for the one Mike held. He told me he could handle that, and we walked over to his vehicle, we got into the lead one and I heard his aide calling Mike over to the trailing one.'

'The trip over was a quick one as Steve and I traded small talk, I introduced Sue as my pet and told him that she was the reason I needed the local spook to handle some paperwork for her. Plus, I had the very latest observations from the last few days. I also wanted to chat with the pilots that had come to visit my far-flung part of the war, I wanted to thank them personally for such prompt and courteous action.'

'Pulling up at his quarters I could see the other hummers stopping at the house just 50 feet away and could see my people going in and the lights come on. It was weird to see exposed lights as we kept the exterior lights off at my place and the shades pulled and curtains closed to keep the NKs guessing. I'm not really sure why I was still doing it seeing how they knew I was up on the hill and there was really very little they could do about it. Habit, I guess, like putting out the flag every day and lowering it at dusk.'

'Showing that flag really pissed them off and they had tried a few times to come up the hill, yeah, that worked out really well for them, the bodies were now buried under several inches of snow. I knew that come spring I'd have to clean up the mess, but until then they would just be part of the ecosystem.'

'He led us in and introduced his wife Brenda who wore a beautiful necklace that I could tell was her day collar, Sue had her metal collar around her neck. Truth be told I had forgotten to remove it in the rush to get off the hill, but I wasn't worried about it. As far as the world was concerned, she was dead, and her body not recovered.'

'In wars, there had always been those who had gone missing, and no one seemed to know where they had gone off to or remembered when or what had happened. We sat down and I managed to pull off Sue's and my own armored vest, that allowed us to at least sit comfortably now. "I saw all the lights on Steve and it really kind of blew my mind for a few seconds" I told him as we relaxed waiting for the JAG officer to show up and the local spook too. "I tend to keep the lights off up on the hill, no sense giving the NKs any free shots at me or my people, besides the dark is my friend not theirs."

'The Legal officer came in first and signed for the briefcase and placed several seals on it for additional security, I thanked him for his promptness in response to the call of duty at this late hour. The CIA case agent came in and took the other case telling me that he would have the information transmitted within the hour. I let him know that I needed a new ID for Sue he had her stand up, took a few pictures and said that he'd have something for me by 0900. We shook hands and I had Mike take Sue over to the house and I promised to be over soon. Brenda kissed her husband and went to bed herself and He sent his aid home also leaving just him and me to talk and have a few drinks.'

'We spent the next few hours discussing what was going on, on this side of the fence so to speak, I let him know about the 3+ mile long runway I had had the state build and showed him the data that I had brought with me about it. He said that he'd give this to his people and have them look it over, if it checked out, he could set up a forward base and really begin hitting the NKs from deep in their occupied zone. I liked that I would have a deep forward base and if the shit really did hit the fan we could at least be evacuated on short notice.'

'It was nearly 0330 before we broke and I walked over to the VIP house, going in Mike was sitting in a soft chair by the door napping lightly. He awoke when I opened the door and got up. "Boss," He quietly said and reached for my over jacket and M-916SD, I handed him the 916 after removing the mag and clearing the chamber. We all carry hot because you just might not have the 3-5 seconds you need to rack a round,'

"Where is everyone Mike?" I ask quietly, looking around and could see a few guys asleep on the couches or the floor. "Here, there, just about everywhere John, your rooms end of the hall on the right, Sue's already in bed and Tony has been cooking for breakfast." Mike quietly whispered and handed me my weapon back. I replaced the mag and racked a round up the pipe. "Go to bed Mike, I'll see you in the morning, we got a lot to do in only a few days, including getting uniforms. Night."

'I walked down the hall and entered the bedroom in question, I could see Sues form under the covers and quickly stripped down and curled up against her and quickly went to sleep myself. I knew that come the morning I would have to deal with a mountain of bullshit.'

'The wall was cold, and I wasn't quite fully awake yet, I wasn't 100% sure what the fuck had woken me up, but I knew it was dangerous. "Everybody, check the fuck in." I yelled out and slowly inched up to the lower sill of the window. My weapon in my hands and I finally peaked outside. I saw people walking to and fro seemingly without care.'

"Front okay Boss. Kitchen okay. Back bedroom good Boss. Dining room secure here." I heard and looked around the area again, nothing was standing out. "Mike, send me someone to secure the bedroom." I called out and a minute later Angel slid in still naked except for her armor. I ducked down and grabbed my own and slid into it. I skittered to the front door where Mike was posted up.'

"What the fuck happened Mike?" I whispered as he peaked out the side window yet again. He shrugged his shoulders and spotted an AP Unit out in front of the house and pointed it out to me. "Angel bring me my fucking britches and boots." I called down the hall. A few seconds later Sue crawled down the hall towing my ACU pants in in hand and my well-worn boots in the other.'

"Master, what happened?" She whispered as I pulled my pants on and then my boots. "Mike get dressed." I quietly told him and watched him pull his pants and boots on as several others followed his lead. "Take these to Angel." He told Sue as she now crawled back to the bedroom. I stood up, my body angled so that I could still see out but would be out of the way of any fire coming through the door.

'Ready to fucking do this?" I asked him, he nodded to me, and I slowly opened the door and looked around. I saw nothing out of the ordinary and stepped out, Mike on my left shoulder Frank posted up on my right. The 3 of us were either bare chested or just wearing a T-shirt under out armor. The 2 Air Police Officers got out as we approached them.'

"Sirs." The one closest to me saluted and quickly dropped it when I glared at him. "Airman, what the fuck just happened?" I asked quietly. "Ummmm, morning colors Sir." He replied confused. "We fire a blank charge after the colors are raised, from the canon by the Headquarters Building Sir." I rolled my head back and looked at Mike who looked like he wanted to rip these 2 idiots a new asshole. "Franky, go back inside and have everybody stand down and get dressed." Mike said and looked at his watch.

"Boss, It's 0807 the General." Mike said as I turned back to go inside, I waved the AN closest to me to follow. I entered the house and saw people moving around and either pulling on clothes or taking them off to head for the showers. "Tony, coffee, remind me again why I'm doing this stupid shit." I called out. "You were stupid enough to start shooting planes down then started killing slope heads." He called back and brought me in a mug of coffee.'

"20 minutes till breakfast, don't be late assholes." Tony said and Sue came out still half naked followed by Angel who was pulling off her armor, the young AN got an eyeful of both of their bodies. I looked over at him and cleared my throat getting his attention. "Son, don't stare, it's not polite." I said and pulled my own armor off and a T-shirt on.'

"Tell me son why were you and your partner sitting outside on this cold December day?" I asked and drank some more coffee. He cleared his throat as I could hear the usual arguments of "don't hog all the hot water" and to "hurry the fuck up", followed by retorts of "Fuck the hell off" or "don't get your pussy in a twist". For me this was a daily thing, and I knew that each person rushed to get in, clean up and get out. "Ummmm, Sir. The Vice Commander wanted your door guarded and to provide a set of wheels in case you needed to get someplace in a hurry. Sir.' He told me trying hard to not watch all the nearly naked men and women moving around each other without care.'

"Mike see if you can get ahold of the general and see if he's free for breakfast for me." I said and looked around. "The rest of you idiots clean this place up; I want it cleaner than when we got here." I saw them start picking up the stuff they had pulled out and putting things back where they had found them. Mike walked up to me and handed me a note that I quickly read and nodded and went into my room and dressed quickly then made my own bed as Sue walked in naked and wet from her shower and dressed too.'

"Brenda will be over shortly to take you and the other girls into town to get your hair styled and some nicer things to wear." I told her and called Angel in, I let her know what the game plan was at this moment. I also gave her my debit card and the pin for it. I watched both women get dressed and finished pulling on my clothes myself, I headed for the kitchen where Tony was setting out all the stuff, we'd need to serve ourselves.

'Steve walked in a few minutes later and shook hands with all assembled, we then served ourselves as he and I sat in the dining room with our aides there taking notes. He let me know that we were on an expedited timeline before out flight to D.C. in just a few days. I knew that we would all need to be trimmed and our beards sculped to look presentable. "Well luckily the base barber shop is close by, and I need a quick trim myself John." Steve said. I simply nodded and finished shoving the food into my mouth.'

'Brenda arrived just ahead of the CIA guy who had a new ID for Sue that would pass any check, I put her paperwork in my brief case and let the rest of the guys know to make their way over for a trim job then to meet us at personnel to sign the small mountain of paperwork that I just knew was going to be there. All weapons, except for side arms and body armor were to be left behind as 2 vans showed up and the guys piled in. I watched the girls get into a nice car and head in the other direction.'

'The time at the barber shop was interesting to say the very least as the head barber, an older man named Anthony quickly trimmed Steves and then my hair in a matter of minutes. He also made my beard more than presentable with a few deft strokes of the clippers that he wielded like a master chef would wield a knife. "Don't worry Sir, I'll handle your people personally." He said.'

'I stood up and pulled 5, 100$ bills out of my pocket and slid them to him when we shook hands. "Tony, you're a master with those clippers and I can see why Steve waits for you." I told him and watched him pick up a small pair of clippers and touched up a few stray hairs on my face that offended him. "Well General, if your ever in town and need a trim up, just stop on in and I'll take care of you Sir." he replied and replaced the clippers and quickly brushed the stray hairs from my camo uniform.'

'I looked over my shoulder as I heard the door open and my guys piled in, I walked up to Mike and whispered in his ear some instructions. He nodded as I walked out the door behind Steve. We headed over to personnel where I spent the next hour being printed, photographed and signing things. I was also officially sworn in, the last time I did this was 1983 in Detroit, and my dad was there to administer the oath. I did take a good look at my new ID and all the information that was on the back of it, it held a lot more info than my old ID card.'

'From Personal it was over to Medical and almost 2 hours of being poked and prodded, apparently for a guy my age I was in excellent shape, but they gave me meds for my cholesterol and several other preventative meds. I finally did get to the Officers store and several thousand dollars later I was now looking like what a well-dressed Flag Officer should. We finally went over to the O Club and had a late lunch as Mike, Felix, Steve's aide, and the other guy both enlisted and officer joined us as we discussed what was going to be happening over the next few days.'

'Doc K would be flying out this evening and starting his class within a few days, Tony who now sported Staff Sargent stripes would be picking up supplies at the local big box store and having them flown out to the hill and airdropped in. I let him know to try to not buy the whole store his first time there, and to pace himself. Steve let me know that he would set up a drop point in a hanger where things could be assembled then boxed and placed on pallets and rigged for either airdrop or being brought in by deep penetration helo.'

'I looked at the assembled men before me and smiled, 7 months ago they were little more than a rag tag group of individuals, now I would put them up against nearly any group of troops of the same or larger size. I had created a group of monsters that had put the fear of God into the hearts of the NKs. I sat back and smiled then pulled out a box of cigars and passed it around, telling them to all take one.'

'Going back to the VIP house I saw a van waiting for us in the drive and I had each man grab a duffle bag and garment bag and just take them inside, we'd sort everything out in there where it was warmer. It took us about 15 to make sure everyone had the right bags, then came the task of hanging things up to keep them free of wrinkles. Tony found the ironing board and iron that was included at the house, he began pressing the wrinkles from our clothes and had us all change back into fresh camos. he then started a load of laundry.'

'On the hill Tony was our housekeeper and cook, I couldn't begin to tell you the number of things he did for us up there not to mention the number of times I'd come out of the shower to find a fresh uniform waiting along with fresh sheets and a swept floor. Truthfully, I don't know how we'd survive without him some days though I'd never let him know that hell he had a swelled enough head already.'

'I finally managed a few free minutes in my day to call out to the local branch of my bank and speak with the manager who assured me that all was ready and if I could stop by the paperwork could be finalized. I assured her that we would be stopping there soon and hung up. "Mike, get us a van and a staff car and then call Brenda and have her meet us at this address." I told him and handed him the piece of paper I had been writing on. He quickly looked down at it and simply nodded as he called the motor pool and spoke to them. He then called and spoke to Brenda and after a few minutes walked back over to me. "10 mikes on the car and van Boss and Brenda says they can meet us there in 15 or 20 minutes."

'I nodded and pulled on my parka. "Get the troops ready to go Mike." I told him and walked into the bedroom to grab some paperwork out of the briefcase. I could hear him telling them to form up and get ready to go. "Hey Mike, where we headed?" Frank asked as I walked out into the living room. "To hell Franky if you don't change your ways, ya asshole." I quickly quipped. Several of the guys laughed and teased him but he took it all with a few jabs back as I headed out the door the other idiots following me. I truthfully believed these guys and gals would follow me to the depths of hell if I asked them to.'

'The trip to the bank was fairly quick and I saw the other staff car waiting for us as we piled out and went inside. My boys looked fairly dangerous in their armor and openly sporting side arms, I had told them to be calm and not to draw them unless someone was being extra stupid. The Manager came over and introduced herself to me and took me into her office and we filled in the last of paperwork where it needed to be signed by me. I then started calling guys in and had them present their new IDs and then finalize the paperwork and receive their temporary debit card with a limit of $400 in cash per day.'

'Early on I had managed to get hold of the bank and spoke with the manager about setting up accounts for those that I had taken in, I had also transferred $1,000,000 from my private account to each of theirs. I figured what the hell I had over $370+ million in various accounts, so it wasn't inconveniencing me in the slightest.'

'These transactions took the better part of 2 hours to complete and at the end she took all of us back into the small conference room and welcomed them to the bank and hoped that they would continue with them even after the "war" was over. I told them all to take a few days and just think about things before going on any buying sprees. I also reminded them that they had several months of pay to play with before they would be touching the big bucks.'

'It was well after closing when the Carol the Manager finally unlocked the door and let us out into the darkening night. Thats the only thing about living this far North, by 4:00, 4:30 pm it was dark and stayed that way until after 7:45 closer to 8:15 am. I got in with Brenda and sue and had Mike take Sara and Angel in my car as the guys piled back in the van and we all headed home, so to speak. I called to have food delivered to the VIP house as we drove back, I needed to get SGT. Jimmy Kingman ready to go, he had received his new strips and ID card, so I wasn't too worried about that, but I didn't have orders to send him out with.'
