'Tommy woke me up and let me know that we were 15 minutes out. I looked at my watch and nodded to let him know I was good; he went down the line waking each person up I could hear the pilots talking up front and made sure that Sue was awake also. She was looking at me as I calmly sat there without a care in the world. "What's the matter baby, helo's not as reliable where you're from?" I asked already knowing the answer.'
'She shook her head no and I just laughed knowing that the Kim's has stolen money from everywhere to pay for their lavish lifestyle choices. The military of NK was barely able to feed itself which was why I and so many others had been surprised when they had invaded us. We had been seriously sucker punched by that move, as had the rest of the world, but from what I was able to find out we had managed to get our shit together and were hitting back.'
'I felt the gear come down and knew we were landing and looked out the small porthole windows and could see the landing lights on the pad we were coming into. We all felt the bump and I could see my people all smiling and the rear ramp started down, I got up and pulled Sue up too. My people followed my lead and I lead them off the ramp, I pulled Mike aside and told him to keep our people together, we spotted several people coming over to meet us.'
"John?" The person in the lead asked. "Steve Jackson, Base C.O. we've spoken several times." We shook hands and I introduced Sue and then Mike who had come over to let me know what was going on. "John, I've placed you and your people in the VIP quarters that are next to my place and those Hummers and ambulance are for your people." Steve said.'
'I quickly told Mike to have those that needed medical treatment to get in the ambulances and everyone else to load the Hummers, he was to come with me. He nodded and ran off to carry out my orders. I let Steve know that I would need a field grade JAG officer to take charge of the brief case that I carried, and the local spook was needed for the one Mike held. He told me he could handle that, and we walked over to his vehicle, we got into the lead one and I heard his aide calling Mike over to the trailing one.'
'The trip over was a quick one as Steve and I traded small talk, I introduced Sue as my pet and told him that she was the reason I needed the local spook to handle some paperwork for her. Plus, I had the very latest observations from the last few days. I also wanted to chat with the pilots that had come to visit my far-flung part of the war, I wanted to thank them personally for such prompt and courteous action.'
'Pulling up at his quarters I could see the other hummers stopping at the house just 50 feet away and could see my people going in and the lights come on. It was weird to see exposed lights as we kept the exterior lights off at my place and the shades pulled and curtains closed to keep the NKs guessing. I'm not really sure why I was still doing it seeing how they knew I was up on the hill and there was really very little they could do about it. Habit, I guess, like putting out the flag every day and lowering it at dusk.'
'Showing that flag really pissed them off and they had tried a few times to come up the hill, yeah, that worked out really well for them, the bodies were now buried under several inches of snow. I knew that come spring I'd have to clean up the mess, but until then they would just be part of the ecosystem.'
'He led us in and introduced his wife Brenda who wore a beautiful necklace that I could tell was her day collar, Sue had her metal collar around her neck. Truth be told I had forgotten to remove it in the rush to get off the hill, but I wasn't worried about it. As far as the world was concerned, she was dead, and her body not recovered.'
'In wars, there had always been those who had gone missing, and no one seemed to know where they had gone off to or remembered when or what had happened. We sat down and I managed to pull off Sue's and my own armored vest, that allowed us to at least sit comfortably now. "I saw all the lights on Steve and it really kind of blew my mind for a few seconds" I told him as we relaxed waiting for the JAG officer to show up and the local spook too. "I tend to keep the lights off up on the hill, no sense giving the NKs any free shots at me or my people, besides the dark is my friend not theirs."
'The Legal officer came in first and signed for the briefcase and placed several seals on it for additional security, I thanked him for his promptness in response to the call of duty at this late hour. The CIA case agent came in and took the other case telling me that he would have the information transmitted within the hour. I let him know that I needed a new ID for Sue he had her stand up, took a few pictures and said that he'd have something for me by 0900. We shook hands and I had Mike take Sue over to the house and I promised to be over soon. Brenda kissed her husband and went to bed herself and He sent his aid home also leaving just him and me to talk and have a few drinks.'
'We spent the next few hours discussing what was going on, on this side of the fence so to speak, I let him know about the 3+ mile long runway I had had the state build and showed him the data that I had brought with me about it. He said that he'd give this to his people and have them look it over, if it checked out, he could set up a forward base and really begin hitting the NKs from deep in their occupied zone. I liked that I would have a deep forward base and if the shit really did hit the fan we could at least be evacuated on short notice.'
'It was nearly 0330 before we broke and I walked over to the VIP house, going in Mike was sitting in a soft chair by the door napping lightly. He awoke when I opened the door and got up. "Boss," He quietly said and reached for my over jacket and M-916SD, I handed him the 916 after removing the mag and clearing the chamber. We all carry hot because you just might not have the 3-5 seconds you need to rack a round,'
"Where is everyone Mike?" I ask quietly, looking around and could see a few guys asleep on the couches or the floor. "Here, there, just about everywhere John, your rooms end of the hall on the right, Sue's already in bed and Tony has been cooking for breakfast." Mike quietly whispered and handed me my weapon back. I replaced the mag and racked a round up the pipe. "Go to bed Mike, I'll see you in the morning, we got a lot to do in only a few days, including getting uniforms. Night."
'I walked down the hall and entered the bedroom in question, I could see Sues form under the covers and quickly stripped down and curled up against her and quickly went to sleep myself. I knew that come the morning I would have to deal with a mountain of bullshit.'
'The wall was cold, and I wasn't quite fully awake yet, I wasn't 100% sure what the fuck had woken me up, but I knew it was dangerous. "Everybody, check the fuck in." I yelled out and slowly inched up to the lower sill of the window. My weapon in my hands and I finally peaked outside. I saw people walking to and fro seemingly without care.'
"Front okay Boss. Kitchen okay. Back bedroom good Boss. Dining room secure here." I heard and looked around the area again, nothing was standing out. "Mike, send me someone to secure the bedroom." I called out and a minute later Angel slid in still naked except for her armor. I ducked down and grabbed my own and slid into it. I skittered to the front door where Mike was posted up.'
"What the fuck happened Mike?" I whispered as he peaked out the side window yet again. He shrugged his shoulders and spotted an AP Unit out in front of the house and pointed it out to me. "Angel bring me my fucking britches and boots." I called down the hall. A few seconds later Sue crawled down the hall towing my ACU pants in in hand and my well-worn boots in the other.'
