Chief Inspector Rudolph was remotely watching her three guests. The youngest, Katy, was very apprehensive, cuddled up and holding her legs with her arms. The younger woman, Gloria, was extremely agitated and was stopping around the main room of their temporary accommodations as she vented her anger. The oldest, Lucinda, was sitting quietly as though waiting for something to happen or someone to appear.

After picking them up at Lucinda's house, the three were stripped, cleaned, and given new clothes. Medical personnel took skin, hair, saliva, urine, and stool samples. Lucinda was lactating, so they also took a sample of her breast milk. Meanwhile Timothina's people were getting samples from Lucinda's house, bagging them up for analysis along with the furs given to her. Hopefully, the Med team or Timothina's people find a clue that would help them figure out what the fat elf had been up to.

Problem is, there had been four people in the house exposed to whatever that fuckhead had been up to. The last, Brittany Williams, hadn't be there. She was covering the Big Oil #3 Refinery fire and was front and center at the fire providing non-stop local coverage that was also being carried live, nationally and internationally. A quick snatch and grab wouldn't work. She's too well known and prominent a figure.

Looking down at her report for the High Chancellor, there just wasn't any new information to add before her briefing. A few more hours and she might have some of the answers regarding the women and the house. Another look at the report didn't help, so she turned on a new screen to see what Ms. Williams was broadcasting.

The fire had been burning for well over fifteen hours and Ms. Williams had been there from the start. How she could look that good after all that time on air at the fire scene amazed Eliza. Brittany looked better right now that Eliza did anytime. Flipping to other broadcasts, there she was in the late hours of the morning before dawn looking fabulous and the other stations covering her were remarking on that.

Looking back at the Channel 8 broadcast with Brittany backlit by the fires, Chief Inspector Eliza Rudolph had a revelation. How to get Ms. Williams. It was outside her portfolio, but the High Chancellor could make it happen. Quickly adding it to her report, she finalized, signed it, and transmitted it to the High Chancellor's office.

Eliza looked at the clock. Two hours until the briefing. She'd been on her feet or hooves for too many hours. A quick nap, then off to the High Council Chambers.

The NORTH POLE High Council was not in session, yet the High Chancelor had summoned three individuals to discuss recent events involving the former Santa and its Workshop.

First among them was Commissioner Roberta "Bobbie" Cratchit. Her report would address the situation that occurred during the transportation of the former Santa from the High Council Dungeon to Belltree Hospital, as well as current security and recommended improvements.

Second was Chief Engineer, "Tiny Tim" Timothina Cratchit, daughter of Commissioner Cratchit. She would be reporting on the contamination issues at Santa's Workshop and provide recommendations for how to best address them.

Lastly, Chief Inspector Eliza Rudolph would be reporting on the findings of the overall investigation and recommendations for additional police action.

The Commissioner and the Chief Engineer arrived early and were waiting for the last, Chief Inspector Rudolph, who was just in time. The fourth entity on the chamber floor, present in her humanoid form, and stationed near the High Chancellor's station, was Smolder, the High Chancellor's chief of staff. Roberta, Timothina, and Eliza noted the low key aspect of her form. Her full Greater Fire Wyvern form would have filled the Council floor, forcing them to brief from the gallery. Her greater and lesser hybrid forms would have crowded the area unnecessarily. No other representatives of the High Council were present.

The High Chancellor indicated that Commissioner Cratchit should begin. The ogress approached the presentation podium in the center of the Chambers, wearing a stylish navy blue, dress suit security uniform.

"Your Excellency, we only have a preliminary report from the security teams and Portal Control. Just as Transport 1, which was carrying the elf, passed through the Portal, Overwatch 2 detected two bogies approaching the Belltree security zone. They were headed directly towards the arrival destination point for Transport 1. Overwatch 2 engaged and flamed both successfully. Recovery Teams arrived at the wreckage locations and recovered the remains of both the vehicle and passengers."

"Facility Security Teams secured Transport 1 and escorted it successfully to Belltree. The elf is currently in a Biohazard Level 4 facility. Biological samples have been taken. The violent behavior seen in video from the Workshop, its arrest, and while incarcerated in the High Council Dungeon has not been observed since it was secured in the Level 4 room. Currently security around its location has been enhanced, using all eight of the transport security teams and both Overwatches."

"The bogies have been identified as eighteen elves from Santa's Workshop. All were low-level supervisors. As they were only at mid-level contamination, they were being kept at a lower security location. Apparently, they were able to get two of Santa's reserve Sleighs delivered near where they were secured for "maintenance". Unfortunately, not all their authorizations had been rescinded, nor their ability to communicate outside of their holding facility. Thus, they were able to secure the delivery and were able be work released to "repair" the Sleighs. From medical records, all were among the elves that were hard frozen after being evacuated from the Workshop. We have started a review of all the remaining elves from the Workshop and have increased security. Naturally, we have also cancelled all authorizations and restricted all communications. Elves with more senior rolls at the Workshop all have higher levels of contamination already had that done. We are still trying to determine HOW the elves learned of both the Transport and timing."

"I've requested a commendation for Dragoness Ssssssilva. Her response time was excellent, and she was very thorough in ensuring the elves were burned completely enough to prevent regeneration."

"Lastly, we have accounted for all the elves except for two. They have been away from the Workshop for at least six months based on records Chief Inspector Rudolph uncovered and other information independently acquired. We currently do not know where they are or if they were linked to the information breach regarding Transport."

The High Chancellor indicated satisfaction with Commissioner Cratchit's report. With that, the ogress retreated and gave the podium to her daughter, Chief Engineer Timothina Cratchit. While neat, the ogress was wearing her standard Engineer's coveralls.

"Your Excellency, I don't see any need to continue evaluation of the Workshop site. From the detailed information I've separately provided along with information supplied by Chief Inspector Rudolph's personnel, I recommend rigging the site for demolition using fire. Burn it out, burn it again, then burn the ashes. My people have enough flammables and incendiaries to do the job, but I've requested special assets to assist."

"If approved, my engineers will have the Workshop rigged to burn no later than New Year's Eve Day. I suggest a Midnight Countdown and at Zero, start the pyrotechnics, then burn the place until nothing is left."

"Given the need to start working on NEXT Christmas with a NEW Santa, we need a working Workshop as soon as possible. We have identified a new worksite. Clearing and preparations can start the day after New Year's Day. A basic Workshop should be up and running by the end of January. We'll need a new Santa and new Santa's Helpers by then. We will build out the Workshop until it is full size. Obviously, additional workers will be required as the facility size increases."

The High Chancellor evaluated the Chief Engineer's report. Then indicated that Timothina Cratchit should prepare the Workshop for immolation on New Year's Eve and that the special assets would be made available. Also, work should start on the new Workshop.

"What about the new Santa?"

Smolder responded, "We are evaluating candidates right now. We hope to have a candidate by New Year's Day."

Nodding in response, Timothina walked away from the podium and Chief Inspector Eliza Rudolph approached, dressed in her uniform of brown velvet and a "crown" of miniature antlers.

"Your Excellency, there is an incredible amount of information in the records seized from the Workshop. A full review will take much more time than we have at the moment. The summary we provided for the news conference is still accurate. If anything, the summary understates the seriousness of what was happening. What I know about what the Chief Engineer found in the Workshop, I doubt if any of the elves can be paroled or released. I suspect that the security challenges that Commissioner Cratchit experienced can be linked to what the records show and the findings from the Workshop."

"One bit of bad news. It appears there was a new concoction being tested on Mrs. McGillicuddy. We do not know the effects or the impact. It's possible the delivery system was through the furs in the Sleigh. We just recovered them along with Mrs. McGillicuddy and two of her sexual partners. They are currently in isolation awaiting results from medical personnel. All collections so far and ones currently ongoing are with personnel wearing Hazmat equipment."

"Mrs. McGillicuddy had a third sexual partner. We were unable to acquire her due to her prominence."

With that, the Chief Inspector activated a large display screen and streamed Channel 8 news, with the speaker muted.

"This is Ms. Brittany Williams. A reporter for Channel 8 news and currently being shown worldwide in her dimension as she covers the Big Oil #3 Fire. I provided a proposal on how to bring her to NORTH POLE. This is something either the High Chancellor's office or the High Council itself would need to execute as the methodology is outside my auspices."

Images flashed on the screen and Smolder activated the sound.

"Hello, for those of you joining us this morning, I'm Brittany Williams report from the Big Oil #3 Refinery fire. It's been burning now for eighteen hours. We expect to have a news briefing with the County Fire Chief, who has operational control over the incident, in about an hour. Twenty-three people are missing. Families of twenty-one have been notified. The other two were employes of one of Big Oil's customers."

Pictures of two men were shown on the screen. Commissioner Cratchit yell, "THAT'S THEM!"

"Investigators are trying to get in touch with representatives of ThE WurXshoPPe, where Edward Jolly and Theadore Holly were employed. It is unknown if the company is shut down for the holidays, so we are asking anyone to contact Channel 8 or the County Fire Department if they know anything about these two men or know how to reach their employer. According to Big Oil, they had a specific petrochemical blend on order and the representatives were at the refinery to verify production quality and the delivery schedule."

Smolder muted the sound again as the Commissioner and Chief Inspect consulted, finished, and with Eliza resuming her presentation.

"Based on the latest, unexpected findings. My office will investigate the elves' presence at the refinery and what they might have been up to. I suspect it will tie into some of the things the Chief Engineer's people found."

"Regardless, we need to still understand what was being done to Mrs. McGillicuddy. We need Ms. Williams."
