The waves were glistening, crashing onto the sand in a beautiful cacophony. It was a perfect summer day on the beach, and Mari was leaving deep footprints as she stomped across the sand. A large sun hat covered her frowning face as she got as far away from her family as she could. She'd just wanted a nice, simple, relaxing vacation and they ruined everything! Wet sandcastles had been kicked over her baby blue bikini, and she was still flicking away dried bits of sand from her stomach and top.
She didn't know where she was walking to, but anywhere away from her family was perfect for her. Eventually her anger couldn't be held anymore and her stomping turned into walking, her imprints in the sand getting lighter and lighter.
"Stupid vacation," she muttered to herself, but the sun seeping into her skin couldn't let the bad mood linger forever.
She'd seen less and less people as she walked, until she was the only person around within sight. She took in a deep breath and sighed it out loudly, knowing no one would hear. No one was around to appreciate her new swimsuit either, she thought, snapping the tied side of her bikini bottom, but at least she wasn't around her family either.
She spotted what looked like a cave up ahead. At first it looked like it was inaccessible for any land creature, but as she got closer she saw a small pathway. Maybe she'd rest out of the sun for a little bit, gather her thoughts, and return. They'd be wondering where she was after all. Heaving another great sigh she made her way into the cave.
The rocks surrounding the cave amplified the crashing of the waves, and she let the sound fill her as she sat down on the sand. It was cool, and when she looked behind her she saw the cave continued on for a bit, eventually turning into rocks. She shivered at the cold breeze that came from it and chose to stick to the sandy bit.
She let her legs splay out to touch the water slightly, closing her eyes and relaxing into the slightly chilly waves. She felt peaceful, ready to relax into the chill after being in the heat for so long.
SLAP!
Her eyes flew open at the noise, but when she looked around nothing was different. Maybe it had been one of the waves? Her heart continued to race, unable to accept it as just a wave. It did seem like it came from the water, though. She got on her hands and knees and peered into the dark waters. Caves were known for having sea creatures, right? Maybe an anemone or something--
She yelped when she saw a bright red tentacle crawling it's way out of the water and drew back slightly, but after her initial shock passed, she was...curious? She'd never seen an octopus in person before, but she'd always been interested in the sea creature. She couldn't see the rest of it, it was too dark in the cave but she reached for it anyways, and--
SLAP!
The sound echoed throughout the cave as the tentacle wrapped itself around her wrist, and pulled her closer.
"What-" she started, pulling back, but it was so much stronger than her!
She toppled forward, managing to catch herself with her other hand on the sand. Then, out of the water, another tentacle reached out and grabbed her other wrist. Within seconds, four more tentacles rose out of the water, each of different sizes.
"What the fuck are you--" she managed to say before a tentacle shoved itself into her mouth.
