Niamh Whelan sighed as he she gazed out the window of another Irish January afternoon. The sun was setting, at least it should have been, but the clouds hadn't allowed sight of it during the entire day. Home comforts of a fire, a couch, a TV or a bath always called loudest during these months but she wasn't going to enjoy any of them for a while yet. She was on detention supervision for the evening, meaning another hour was to be spent at the school. She didn't hate the job by any means but it was all she knew, her first post after college and the five interning years had gone quite well. However the January blues always hit harder than any other time of year, thoughts of a bikini on a beach seemed a long way away.
"Alright Miss, you supervising today?"
Niamh was brought out of her daze and focused on the figure moving past her, Stephen McCarthy a sixth year student. Stephen took his seat in the front row while grinning. "I'm still a bit delicate after last weekend so the quiet in here may do me well". Niamh shook her head but otherwise didn't engage. Stephen had academic ability but she felt he could do more with it if he focused more on the books and less on his social life. Now wasn't the time for addressing that though, she hadn't been the one to give him detention so he could do what he liked as far as she was concerned.
