I'm trapped in a cabin with Viktor Petrovski, the horrible man who is blackmailing my mother and holding me captive until she gets the cases against his son and associates dropped. I don't know if my mother will be capable of fulfilling the things he has asked of her and if she doesn't I don't know what that means for me.

Viktor runs his hand down my leg and grabs my hurt ankle causing me to buck forward, yelling out in pain.

"I love to hear a woman scream!" He says, leaning over me, his lips gently touching my neck. He moves up to nibble on my ear. His ringing cell phone draws his attention from me.

"Help me, I'm being held hostage! My name is..." I scream when he answers his phone, hoping that somehow the person on the other end might be able to save me. Viktor backhands me, knocking me temporarily unconscious.

"This was not a wise thing to do." Viktor says sitting down beside me when he walks back in the room after finishing his call. He holds a pocketknife in his hand that he flips open and waves the blade in front of my face. I lay paralyzed in fear clamping my eyes shut tight. I can feel his breath on my face as he slowly slides the blade up and down my skin.

"Beg for your life." He says sadistically biting on my ear.

There is a catch in my throat, I am trying to speak words but no sounds are coming out.

"Please...." I say. The only audible word I could spit out.

"Please what? You want me to touch you?" He says, mockingly. "Absolutely, I can do that."

He runs his hand along my body, tracing every inch and curve. He climbs on top of me wedging his legs between mine. He spreads his legs to make an opening for his fingers to explore my nether parts. He pokes and prods at my pussy stopping only long enough to taste my juices on his fingers.

"What do you want now, angel?" He says, sitting up on the bed. He slashes the tape off my wrists with his knife and then yanks me up to a sitting position. "You want me to fuck your ass, is that what you said?"

"No." I shake my head violently nearly hyperventilating.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see movement coming from the living room. I look over to see Ty, all bloodied and bruised, sneaking up behind a man standing guard just outside the bedroom door. He places a finger over his mouth and then grabs the man's head and twists it in one swift movement. The man sinks to the floor in a crumpled heap. Ty then motions for me to duck. I lower my head into Viktor's lap.

"Oh, Miss Connelly, you are more like your mother than I imagined." Viktor says in a sickeningly arrogant tone. A shot rings out and Viktor slumps over on top of me with a bullet hole in his head.

"Are you okay?" Ty says, pulling me out from underneath Viktor's lifeless body.

"I'm fine. Let's get out of here."

He grabs his duffle bag off the floor and slips his arm around my waist. I wrap my arm around his shoulder and we scramble toward the front door. My adrenaline is pumping so hard that I can barely feel the pain as we make our way to the black Cadillac Escalade parked in the driveway.

"Get in!" Ty says opening the driver's side door and pushing me inside. I climb over to the passenger's side seat grabbing his bag as he climbs in. He starts the ignition just as a car comes barreling down the road. Bullets fly as two men jump out of the car and run toward us. Ty throws the car in reverse and peels out of the gravel driveway sending rocks flying through the air at the men.

"Hold on!" He says as he slams the car into drive and takes off down the gravel road. I force my head against the headrest, holding on for dear life.

"Shit!" I hear him mumble under his breath as he looks into the rearview mirror. I don't even have to look to know that they are following right behind us.

"Put your seatbelt on."

Just moments after I buckle up, we pull onto a paved road, skidding sideways before he guns it. Tires squeal as he straightens the car out before taking off down the road at top speed. A bullet shatters the passenger side mirror. I scream, holding my head in my hands.

"Are you hurt?" Ty says, turning to look at me.

"Keep your eyes on the road!" I say as he drifts into the opposite lane. "Don't worry about me, just drive!"

"Yes Ma'am." He says, slamming the gas pedal down, barreling down the road. He makes a sharp right hand turn at an intersection and then makes an immediate left down a heavily wooded area.

"Are they still behind us?"

"I think we lost them." He says wiping sweat off his forehead.

We keep driving for a while, finally feeling confident that we are no longer being followed.

As the sun begins setting in the sky, we come to a small town. He pulls into the back alley of a strip mall and leans his head against the steering wheel.

"You alright?" I say, placing my hand on his shoulder. He's a mess, covered in dried blood and shaking violently.

"Oh sure, I'm fine. I just killed a notorious Russian mob boss, I'm great!" Ty says slamming his head against the steering wheel.

"Ty calm down."

"My god damn name isn't Ty, it's Mike, Michael Adams. I'm as good as dead now anyway so I guess it doesn't matter." I can hear the rage in his voice. I sink back into my seat pulling my legs up my chest and resting my head on my knees. He digs through his bag and throws a shirt and a pair of shorts at me.

"Put some clothes on. I'm taking you home." He says, gripping his hands tightly on the steering wheel.

"No, I don't want to go home."

"What? That's all you've been saying since this started."

"That was before..." I say, unable to complete the thought of own mother's betrayal. "Just take me somewhere far away. We can just go somewhere and start over."

"You're not safe with me, Ava."

"You saved my life back there."

"I'm also the reason your life was in danger to begin with."

"I don't think that's true. I know Viktor paid you to do it and I'm sure it had something to do with my mother's relationship with Viktor. I think you were just a pawn in his game, just like me, only you didn't realize you were being played."

"It doesn't matter whether I was played or not, the fact is I'm going to be wanted for kidnapping, rape, grand theft auto, murder and who knows what the hell else by the time they get through with me."

"I'm not going to press charges against you. For all anyone knows I went with you on my own and I consented to everything. You saved my life the rest of it doesn't matter."

"But I know and it matters to me."

"Don't be a fucking martyr, Mike, I know you're not a monster." I say, holding his face to look into his eyes.

"Ava...." He says, lowering his eyes.

"Mike....look at me...I need you right now."

Police sirens wail in the distance. Sensing his apprehension, I grab his hands as it trembles violently. The sirens loom closer and the darkened sky is illuminated in an eerie red and blue glow. We both let out an audible sigh of relief when the police cruisers speed by heading the direction of the cabin.

That was a year ago, today. The day the rest of my world was shattered after finding out that my mother was involved in the death of my father.

They say hindsight is 20/20 and it's true. When I look back on the days leading up to the day my father died I should have known the truth all along. I remember the night my father died like it was yesterday. I remember my parents arguing that night, which had become a common occurrence in recent months. I remember my mother was making dinner and told Dad to go get her something at the grocery store that she needed for dinner. He argued with her about going because he had had an especially bad day at work. I offered to go but she insisted that he go and he finally gave in. He walked out the door that night and never came back.

My mother is in jail now. She would have me believe that she was just another one of Viktor Petrovski's poor innocent victims but nothing could be further from the truth. When the authorities investigated her, they found numerous cases that she dropped or 'lost' that let known Petrovski associates off. The man who was sent to prison in the drunk-driving case involving my father testified that my mother and Viktor Petrovski planned it out and paid him to do it. He said that my mother was supposed to get him off but didn't. He would have testified against them sooner but Viktor threatened to kill his family if he said a word so he kept quiet until now.

Mike told me the reason he knew so much about me was because Petrovski had cameras placed in our home years ago. Viktor had live access inside our house 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Cameras were set up in our bedrooms, the living room, kitchen and even in our bathrooms. He had been watching everything we did for years, even before my dad died. That fact still haunts me to this day.

I found out Mike's father, Carl Adams was police officer who was investigating my father's case. Turns out, he was close to figuring out the truth of my father's accident and the nature of the relationship between Viktor and my mother. My mother was somehow able to bring bogus charges against him of tampering with evidence, harassment and even attempted rape. He was indicted and sent to jail where he was killed by some inmates who knew that he was a cop. All of this was somehow kept out of the public eye and even from me.

Mike blamed my mother for his father's death and became an easy target for Petrovski to manipulate to get what he wanted. Mike and his friend Nate Davidson were going to be the scapegoats in my kidnapping case. It would his DNA on me and at the crime scene. Mike would have been the one going to jail if thing went bad but instead he made sure that no one else would ever take the fall for Viktor Petrovski again.

Mike is currently serving a 5 year prison sentence for the killing Petrovski and the other man in the cabin that day. He will be eligible for parole next year.
