Sometimes when I'm lonely or horny, who knows the difference, I like to think back about that night that I gave you everything and you took it.
It was a cool fall evening, I was bundled up, moving quickly because my toes were starting to go numb. I had my sneakers on, my bright green bag across my body, my jeans and jacket not doing much to keep the shivers away. I was making my best effort to stay alert but also not make eye contact with anyone.
It was dark enough that I had to really focus on where I was walking once I got to that darker part of town, trying to make it to my car after closing the library. I was just passing the woods right next to the local park when I heard a branch snap, it was far enough away that I didn't really make an effort to look around, I just kept hustling to my car, to the warmth.
The hairs on the back of my neck standing up should've been my first clue that I wasn't completely alone on this street. A large chill ran down my back at the same time and I chalked it up to the whispers of winter that made their way in after the sun went down. Then I heard it, the slight sigh of someone much too close for my comfort. I tried to very slightly turn my head and look out of the corner of my eye, desperate to not make eye contact.
You were right there, right next to me. You simply smirked and reached out to grab my bag from my shoulder, telling me you liked the color green. My blood ran absolutely frigid. I was frozen in place. Your finger brushed against my cheek as you took it off my body. You laid it on the hood of my car, looked straight into my soul, and whispered "run".
You stepped back for just a moment and I thought I would be able to get my car door open, but the look in your eyes told me that was a very bad idea. I spun around, scanning, searching for somewhere I could get some help. No phone, no weapons, nothing to help me except the hope of escape.
I took off towards the park, running as fast as my legs would carry me, ditching my jacket in the middle of the road, I was definitely no longer cold. I ran into the park and past the lake, down the path towards the denser woods. I was hoping to find a bathroom or building I could hide behind, maybe some people would be in one of them. I ran past bench after bench and not a soul in sight. I glanced back to where my car was and you weren't there any more, somehow my heart started beating faster at the thought that you knew where I was but I couldn't see you.
I took a left turn off the path, past the benches outside the playground, towards the wooded area. The trees stood over me ominously, the wind shaking the leaves back and forth. I could see a small path from people venturing in here so I tried to stick to that. I ran for about 2 minutes before it got extremely dark, whether it was the last of the sun going down or the dense canopy above me, or maybe both, either way I almost couldn't see anything.
I paused for a moment to catch my breath, breathing shakily and as quiet as I could. I heard leaves rustling in front of me and I froze, not breathing, barely able to stand, hoping you hadn't found me. Nothing else happened so I figured it was the wind or a racoon or something.
