Jade's agent had called her with the news that she had been cast 3 days past. Today was the day for her to pick up her script, as per the instructions she had received. Apparently, the director wanted to go over a few scenes with her in order to discuss things he wanted her keeping in mind as she learned the part. Thus, she found herself once again waiting near the secretary outside of Will Turner's office.
As excited as Jade was about the opportunity this film represented, she was trepidatious. Her last visit had resulted in a personal humiliation, as Turner had discovered a secret from her past and used it to blackmail her into doing things that she had found shocking. But what choice did she have? Should the information come out, not only would she lose this movie deal, but it would likely be the last one ever offered to her. She could only hope that he had had enough of her during her last visit and that they could carry on with the business of making the movie.
The secretary's phone buzzed and she picked it up. Looking in Jade's direction with a nod, she hung up again. "You can go in, Miss Prescott," she said.
Jade stood up and took a deep breath. She walked down the hall to the door, knocked, and entered.
Will Turner, looking a little agitated as he examined something on the screen of his laptop, glanced up as she entered. "Ah, welcome back, Jade. Come on in." He stood up and walked out in front of his desk, picking up a script as he did so.
Jade approached cautiously, unsure of what to expect. Her palms were slightly sweaty as she reached out to take the script from him. "Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity, Mr. Turner."
Turner smiled. "I'm sure you're going to do your best, and we'll show the studio that I was right to take a chance on you."
Jade gripped the script tightly, fighting the urge to flee the room. She forced a smile to her lips, hoping it appeared enthusiastic. "Of course, Mr. Turner. I'm honored to be working with you and I promise to put everything I have into this role."
Turner nodded. "Excellent. I had planned to talk over some of the script with you, but my morning got extremely busy, as it turns out. Some things I thought we had locked down are now presenting some difficulties, and I need to sort them out." He walked over to the door and locked it.
Jade's breath caught as she heard the lock click. "I'm sorry to hear that," she said, not knowing what to do. "I... I'm sure you'll find a way to smooth out whatever the difficulties are."
Turner returned to his desk and sat down. "I hope so, too, but it's going to mean a number of phone calls and some negotiating to fix things. We will have to discuss those key scenes together another time."
Jade eyed the door. "So... you'll call me to arrange an alternate time? Well, I'll look over the script in the meantime and wait for your call." She moved to the door and put her hand on the lock.
"Oh, don't leave just yet," he said, and she froze. "Yes, I will be in touch about the script, but I have something for you to do while you're here."
Jade turned back, trying to appear nonchalant. "Oh? What's that?"
