Preface: I would like to state I do not condone using archaic laws and caning in general. A few of the comments sent to me by my readers asked me to write something dealing with caning, so the following story is of a non-consent nature. I would never submit anyone to this kind of treatment, but no one knows what the future will bring illustrated by the situation all of us find ourselves in presently. With that said onto Terry and Connor's adventure in the future.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, there are a number of archaic laws still on the books, which the judicial system can reincarnate, instead of incarceration. With the use of the archaic laws that consists of display and judicial corporal punishment, something like this could happen to someone in your family.
There was a knock on the door, just as Terry came home from work as a high school teacher. She opened the door to find a Sheriff.
"Are you Mrs. Teresa Scott?"
"Yes I am."
"You have an appointment at the women's correctional facility on Wednesday of next week." The officer said while, handing her the summons, and paperwork to sign.
"What is this for? I haven't done anything wrong?" The shocked Teacher stated.
"I don't know, but it will be explained in the paperwork, I just handed you." The officer stated, as he turned to leave.
The mature schoolteacher opened the envelope to find a document stating.
Mrs. Teresa Scott, this citation is for check fraud; your social security number and license are linked to a number of unauthorized checks cashed in the area. The authorities are issuing a summons that you attend a corrective judicial punishment
session in lieu of a jail sentence, as you failed to appear in court on April tenth two thousand twenty five at one PM. You are to report to the woman's correctional facility on Wednesday May Tenth Two thousand Twenty Five at one PM for Display and correction.
If you are in disagreement with this citation, please contact the Women's Correctional Facility at 19 Linden Ave. between Eight AM and Five PM Monday through Friday. Bring all information pertinent to your case with you.
On the day of your appointment, bring an advocate with you to assist you.
After reading the first two pages of the document, Teresa was beside herself with grief, her husband just passed away of Covid 19 and she was presently alone with her nineteen-year-old son. She was crying when her son came home from junior college.
"Mom what is the matter?" Her son Connor asked upset seeing his mother's grief.
She handed him the Summons saying. "There is a mistake that needs to be corrected before a week from Wednesday, or I am going to be disciplined for something I didn't do. I wish your father was here he would know how to handle this?" Teresa broke down crying in her sons' arms.
Putting his arm around his grieving mother, he said. "Mom it will all work out." Comforting her, but in reality he wasn't so sure.
It was a bad night for both; eating in silence, and then they sat in front of the TV, each with their own thoughts, not paying any attention to the show on Television. Both went to bed after the eleven o'clock news.
Conner spent the night fantasizing of his mother's chastisement and his mother spent the night trying to figure a way out of her predicament. They both looked like they didn't sleep at all in the morning, which was not far from the truth.
As was stated in the document she received, she went to her supervisor, the principal of the school with the paperwork she received. Mr. Johnson looked it over and stated. "We can use this as a teaching tool, to show what happens if you are in violation of the law." Jim Johnson said trying to hide his excitement that he may witness a judicial correction of the modest Mrs. Scott.
"Jim, I didn't do this, someone stole my Identity. Look at the picture on the driver's license it is not me."
"Your right, you will have to go to the women's correctional facility to straighten this out before Wednesday."
"Can I leave now to get this straightened out?"
"Sure I will call in a substitute for your twelfth grade classes today." Mr. Johnson said with false sympathy.
Teresa left school and went home to gather all her documentation. It was an hour before she left the house, confident that she will have this straightened out by the end of the day. "Anyone can see, it is not my picture on the driver's license, my identity was stolen." She thought, as she drove to the women's discipline center.
Going into the reception area there was a sign stating. "If you are not here for your appointment take a number and wait for your number to be called." She sat waiting and saw with horror, the women that were waiting for their appointments, women coming out crying and barely able to walk with their advocate helping them out.
The mature shy fifty nine year old teacher witnessed a forty-five minute horror show, until they called her number.
Teresa went up to the vacant window and said to the woman behind the counter. "I didn't cash any fraudulent checks. Here is my information look at the picture it is not me."
The woman behind the counter looked over all the information Terry put in front of her and with a compassionate look said. "I see that the photo is not of you, but you will have to call the court and ask for Judge Harold Collins, his is the one that signed the order of discipline and is the only one that can rescind it. Here is his direct line."
Walking out of the center with the post-it in her hand, she was certain that she had a Harold Collins in school. She remembered him as a troublemaker and reprimanded him several times to the point of giving him low grades, not because he deserved them, but because he did not want to do the work, she assigned the class.
The Teacher entered her car and called the number.
"Judge Collins office how may I help you?"
"My name is Teresa Scott; I received a summons from the women's correctional facility for next Wednesday. I did not cash fraudulent checks." She said almost in tears.
"Let me find your file and see what I can do for you." The woman on the other end of the line said.
"Thank you." Teresa said.
