Magic in the Air
Chapters 1 - 10
About Magic; We know that there are a few people who can move objects with their mind, some can manipulate certain material into different shapes. There are some who are truly clairvoyant, those with eidetic memory, people we call visionary, mathematical genius and let us not forget those we call gifted. Is this not Magic?
Dictionary: The power to apparently influence the course of events by using mysterious forces. To move, change, or create by or as if by magic.
The problem stems from people like Harry Houdini and tricks like making a rabbit disappear. This is "tricksterism", not magic.
What I do is no trick. I can truly influence the course of events by using a mysterious force. As with all the afore mentioned talents, it is our brains that is the mysterious force.
CHAPTER I - My Conception (told by my mother)
On September 18, 1941 one of the most intense solar storms ever recorded caused a massive geoelectromagnetic disturbance whose ramifications are not fully understood. For several weeks some of the strongest and most vibrant Aurora Borealis could be seen in the northern night sky.
It was, in fact, September 19. We were a team of 6 women and 2 men from 3M corp. (As a reminder, during the war women dominated the work force.) The company was hired by the Army to see if it was feasible to build an Army Air Base in northern Alaska. I was 16 at the time and working the war effort as an accountant. I was good with numbers.
We were in the 3rd and last 3/4 ton pickup truck in the ( I hesitate to call it a convoy, but that's what they called it).
Ruth, the oldest sat up front with the driver, a corporal whose name I'll never forget, "Walter Witham Jr." a very handsome young man, wavy blonde hair, blue eyes and a manly look to him. Walter was among the many who never made it back once the war ended. I sat in back with Josephine. Never call her that, she insisted on "Joe". She was a hefty woman with arms that Walter could have used. "Me," I'm Kate.
From the back seat, all I could see was the trucks headlights bouncing all over the road and the truck in front of us. In the truck, we were bouncing also. Seatbelts? No one hade any idea what a seat belt was back then. Hell, we probably would have cut them out because they were uncomfortable to sit on.
Ruth gave a loud exclamation, "Oh my God, look at the sky. Walter, stop, stop I want to get out and see it."
Walter slowly came to a stop while grabbing the radio mike and pushed the button. "The gals need to stretch their legs and such, so I'm stopping for a minute. We'll catch up in a bit."
A gruff, "10 Roger that." came back over the radio.
We all climbed out and I had my breath taken away. There were streaks of greens and reds with clouds that contained color and reflected color. It was beyond anything that I could imagen, it was heavenly. No one spoke, we were all lost in our thoughts. It took a few minutes but I was intensely aware of my body. My skin began to tingle and I felt it, the first sign, I was getting moist between my legs and the feeling was getting stronger by the minute. After five minutes, I was feeling so horny that my pubic hairs were standing on end and my body started to sway as I watched the sky. Walter was standing beside me and I swayed into him. He put an arm around me and I looked up into his eyes. I could see the same heat and passion in them that I knew was in mine. We kissed and not a chase kiss. From the moment that our lips touched our tongues began a dance of passion and before our lips parted my pants and panties were down to my ankles. It was like he was a lit match and I was gasoline. I exploded as I felt him enter me from behind. I bent over and felt him slide deeper into me. The orgasms were turning my legs into jelly but willpower kept me standing.
"Oh God," I moaned as yet another orgasm hit.
"Kate, I'm going to cum, I can't last, you feel so good."
I mumbled something. I have no recollection of what. It could have been something like, "That's good, but don't stop shoving that pole into me until tell you."
I felt him push deep in me and he held himself there as he pumped me full of his cum. I could feel each spurt and pulse of his wonderful cock. My insides were so sensitive that I could feel the sperm flow toward my ovaries, even as I felt him slide out of me. I stayed there, bent over, feeling his sperm inching closer and closer. I knew the exact second that a sperm entered my ovary. I felt a surge of electricity coarse thru me and a flash of white light blinded me for a fraction of a second and I knew I was pregnant.
In case you're wondering, Ruth and Joe never saw Walt and I going at it. They couldn't have. Each one of them had their heads stuck between the legs of the other. Ruth, with only a little embarrassment, told me she had never been with another woman, but Joe had her body feeling things that she had never felt before.
Walt and I were together for the next 2 weeks and yes, we had sex several more times. Though nothing like that night under the vibrant sky of the Northern Lights.
It still makes me sad and a little regretful that Walt died never knowing that he had a son. I knew my child would be a boy from that moment I knew I was pregnant.
I went back to my office accounting job for 8 more months, for two reasons. One, to save money and two, so I'd be covered by insurance for the birth.
After I left, I found several small Mom and Pop businesses that needed accounting services and made a few dollars that way, at least enough to keep me in a one bedroom apartment and put food on the table. I was eating for two.
My son was born on a bright sunny day in June and he looked like Walt, except for the nose, he has my nose.
Chapter II - Don't Show Off In School
I was in the first grade when my Mom got her first call from the school. (the first of many:)
The teacher seated my mother in a chair built for a 6 year old. That pissed her off, I could tell by her face. I knew the pissed off face very well from experience.
The teacher began anyway. "Well Mrs. Witham your son..."
My Mother cut her off, "That's Miss Elton, thank you. My Son carries his father's name. ( slight pause ) With Pride, as he died in the war!"
The teacher was now just a little flustered. "Ah, well, Miss Elton, your son is extremely talented. He can solve any of these puzzles faster than any of the other children and some adults."
My Mother looked down, "These puzzles?" she said with an air of noble dignity.
"Why yes," The teacher replied with a puzzled expression.
"Miss Aren, my son has all of these puzzles at home, he has been working them for over a year now. I'd be disappointed in him if he couldn't do all of them with a blindfold. We play a game to see how fast he can put them together."
"Well, he is exceptionally smart and I feel he should be in the States advanced school system."
"Yes, Miss Aren, he is smart, but my wishes are for him to grow with his piers at least thru grade school. Then he will be old enough to have his own input in his educational wants, not someone else making inappropriate decisions for him."
My Mother stood and looked down at the chair, shook her head and began to leave with my hand in hers, giving a departing, "Good Day Miss Aren."
When we got home to our apartment she gave an audible sigh of relief.
"Mom, what is wrong with me going to an advanced school?"
"My young Walt, you have abilities well in advance of most other people. My fear is that you will be treated like a lab animal. Not really allowed to learn, but used for their study. I don't want to take that chance. I love you son."
With those words, tears came to her eyes and I vowed to my self not to stand out any more. "I Love you too Mom."
The one bedroom apartment that we lived in was so small Mom would joke that we don't eat beans for fear of gassing ourselves to death.
We had a scratched and dented table with 2 chairs, a thread bear sofa with a broken arm, 2 milk crates for side tables, 4 cinder blocks with 2 wood planks for a bookcase and my favorite, our mattress it was soft and a dream to sleep on. It sat directly on the floor. We had a big old black and white TV. The channel selector was broken and you had to use pliers to change the channel to 1 of 3 networks and then you had to play with the rabbit ears and tinfoil to bring it in clear. Mom got real good at removing the tubes and testing them at the drugstore every time the TV broke.
Chapter III - (I should call this one, THE FIRST SHOCK OF MY LIFE.)
Several years passed and we still had the same old TV only Howdy Duty and Buffalo Bob were no longer on the air.
There was a big waterpipe leak at the school, so they sent us home an hour early.
