Chapter 19 In with the New
Jonah Hale sat in his office scouring through the information he has been given regarding the mystery that is Dr. Marcus Kingsman, a new player in the strange game of slave trading that has seemingly disrupted his partners, James and Anastasia Phillips. Since the arrival of Kingsman, the Phillips family, including their daughter, 19 year old Alexis, has been behaving erratically to a noticeable degree. Hale was figuring out why, and putting the arguments together before meeting with his new partner, Dr. Sofia Sorina, a Romanian 'free agent' with a reputation for turning international agents to their adversary's side.
"Good morning Jonah, I see you are at the grind already," Sorina said as she entered the meeting with Hale.
"Yes, just putting the pieces together," Hale said. "Out with the old, in with the new so to speak."
"Do tell, then Jonah," remarked the dark haired, Eastern European beauty as she sat across from Hale in a private conference room adjacent to Hale's office.
"In due time, Sofia," Hale replied. "Once the research and development of the new drug was near completion, I reached out to you. Your reputation precedes you."
"Well I do very good work," Dr. Sorina replied. "I take it you like the new Alexander Mason?"
"There was never much to like to be honest, so yes," Hale said. "I was saddled with him when I got sent to the 'Specials' detail, and to cover my ass I had to cover his. So he's owed me for a very long time. This is well deserved."
"I understand. His book work is much superior to his field work." Sorina replied. "Much better with research development and theory than helping actual people. Not much of a challenge for me, ever."
"Yes, and his research and development led to this new drug, and to you being here," Hale said. "Never discount that everyone has value, especially when they owe you something."
"Yes a sense of loyalty is very effective," Sorina said. "Though I never got that concept myself."
"Very true, He is bringing his wife to us in about an hour," Hale said. "In with the new. His plastic surgeon wife has a stellar and successful reputation, so we can now offer enhanced physical as well as mental features to our future playtoys."
"An exciting development," Sorina answered. "And what of the old?"
"Leave that to me," Hale answered, smiling. "It is very well in hand."
"Why don't you go brief Mason on his actions when his wife arrives," Hale said to his new partner.
"With pleasure," Sorina said, smiling ear to ear. "I did some research on her, she is quite nice to look at. I did also make a few adjustments to the program for today, I do hope you don't mind, Jonah."
Hale laughed and responded "As long as she does the job we need her for and doesn't bring attention to us, do your worst, Sofia."
"That's when I am at my best, Jonah as you will learn," the psychiatrist responded, grinning. "See you when our new team member arrives."
Hale went to the lobby of the building that houses both his Black Jacket Security company, as well as hosting the Mason Center for Psychological Injury and their 'combined' research facility complete with a brand new operating room to greet Mason's wife, Dr. Kristina Meadows, the plastic surgeon to the rich and famous in Miami. Hale had planned long for the events that were currently transpiring, to create a brand new state of the art never seen before organization to create programmed slaves. With Mason, the lead creator of the new drug to be used, now fully subjugated, bringing on his wife was the final step to having the ability to adjust slaves physically in addition to the mental alterations that were possible. In some instances, the guise of plastic surgery would be the gateway to reprogram victims sent by their wealthy benefactors.
"Show time," Hale texted his new partner, Dr. Sofia Sorina indicating the arrival of the next piece of the new, improved 21st century Project Playtoy piece was at hand.
"Hello, Dr. Meadows, what a pleasure to see you! Beautiful as ever," Hale remarked as he greeted the guest of honor, who believed she was there to celebrate her husband's promotion. Hale began with a gesture to indicate which elevator to head toward.
"Always the charmer, Mr. Hale," remarked the attractive surgeon. "My husband was very vague about this 'promotion' so I am a but at a loss here."
"Please, call me Jonah," Hale offered, as he swiped his badge to open the elevator door to take him to the research floor. "We have finalized some very important plans regarding our research venture, but that is all I can say for now."
"Well that clears it up a bit, though he never really mentions that much," the blonde petite wife of the enslaved Mason responded as they ventured up in the shiny new elevator. "And please, I'm Kristina, Dr. Meadows makes me feel like I am at the office!"
"I do know what that's like, Kristina," Hale replied. "I think you will LOVE what we have in store."
"So that's all I get for now, I see, very intriguing then, Jonah," Kristina said, stifling a chuckle. "So cloak and dagger."
"Well Kristina, you do know my background, What else would you expect?" Hale laughed. "But seriously, we are going to start on a tour of our new research center. Ah, This is our stop."
Hale escorted his guest from the elevator through a set of doors he swiped his badge to enter. Once inside, the doors shut and an audible click indicated the doors had locked behind them.
"Obviously we have state of the art security" Hale said, laughing off the loud locking noise that was heard, and loud enough to cause Dr. Kristina Meadows to jump just a bit. "We do want to ensure our work here is secure."
"Of course, Jonah," Kristina answered. "But what is it that will be done here?"
"In due time, Kristina," Hale answered, moving his guest along. "Don't spoil the surprise!"
"All right, Jonah," the confused Doctor responded.
"We are now in the dormitory area, Kristina," Hale said, pushing through another set of doors, showing the hallway had four rooms on each side, each door numbered, odd on one side, even on the opposite. "This is for our staff should they need a place to stay while doing their research, which as you know doesn't hold formal hours in many cases. If staff chooses, they may choose to live here."
Hale opened the first door, and showed the Doctor the lovely one bedroom apartment complete with full kitchen, laundry, and full bath facility.
"These are very nice, Jonah," Dr. Meadows related. "What type of research will be going on here?"
"Psychological research, Kristina," Hale replied, pulling the door closed and escorting the pretty plastic surgeon down the hall through a new set of doors. "Here are our inpatient facilities, where your husband will be helping those clients who need inpatient care."
Leading Kristina through another set of doors she felt as though she was in the waiting area for a surgical suite.
