With no classes today, I went to the library to do some writing. I found an empty terminal and sat down but the chair was uncomfortable so I looked around and spotted an empty one in the back next to a coed.
I'd seen her earlier when the librarian helped her access something on her computer but thought little of it at the time. When I sat next to her, I noticed her working on anatomy and studying the skeletal structure.
I logged into my terminal and began working on my paper. I can type pretty fast and on a loud keyboard it can become a loud racket so I'm always conscious of this. I'm zipping along and I see her glance at me several times. I stop and asked her if I was typing too loud and disturbing her. She smiled, and says I wasn't bothering her and that she likes that I type really fast. I said, "Thanks" and continued my writing. Sometimes the brain takes a little while to realize what the body is doing.
A few moments go by and she asks if I can help her look up something in her book. It's at this point I see her for the first time. I mean I really see her. To say she's beautiful is an understatement. Her dark brown skin is flawless, enhancing her radiant face and fine features. She looked at me with expressive eyes that held a touch of mischievousness. Realizing I was staring, I looked away for a moment then back to her. She spoke with an accent in a velvetly soft voice as she hands me her book. I noticed that it smells like Ethiopian spices and I comment on this. She asks me how I know this and I explained how Ethiopian food is my favorite food and how I'd recognize the smell of berbere anywhere. She says that she is from Ethiopia and is impressed that I knew.
I start looking up the term she's working on and she scoots next to me to get a better look at what I'm finding. I suddenly notice that she too smells of spices, so now my body is all weird. My stomach is yelling food, my eyes are undressing her and my body is saying hot woman is inches away, lock and load boys.
I shake my head to clear it and continue with the tasks at hand looking up the medical term for her. I eventually find it and help her in writing out the answer for her homework. Her English is good and I tell her so but I notice that she has not caught the nuisances like words having similar pronunciations but different meanings and the gibberish called medical terminology is hot helping. I notice that our chitchat is disturbing others and I suggest we go to the café and continue.
We continued studying at the café sitting next to each other and I'm getting the body language that she is liking my attention, mirror posturing, playing with her hair, direct eye contact, looking at my mouth and eyes while talking, leaning towards me, touching me, etc.. But the brain is saying This woman is from another culture, maybe this is the norm and friendly openness for them. Nothing else.
