Something's wrong today
Craig
Craig always liked Saturdays; Bradley usually visited his girlfriend and Craig went with him. She was beautiful and that special place where her hair was curly, always smelled good. But today felt different. Something was wrong. Shirl was wrong for a start. She should be in jeans but came downstairs wearing a short dress. It was bright but he couldn't say exactly what colour it was. Even from here Craig could smell her. She'd put on too much of that perfume stuff after her shower. But it didn't disguise the fact that she'd fucked Bradley before showering. And Shirl was carrying a small case; she didn't need that for her Saturday shop. Craig was uneasy.
Shirl was shoeless and sat on the bottom stair and put some high-heeled ones on. Then she opened the coffee machine and tapped yesterday's grounds out of the filter. As they dropped into the waste bin Craig could see right up her dress. She was wearing a suspender belt and stockings. He really didn't know what all the fuss was about with stockings. He just knew he got into trouble if he laddered them.
"Morning Craig." she said.
Craig said good morning to her and stood up. She unlocked the back door and he went into the garden. Farthest away from the house were several rows of runner beans climbing up bamboo stakes. He didn't like beans much but inspected them anyway.
Bradley
He came downstairs and gulped his coffee.
"You haven't got a tie on." observed Shirl.
"It's in my overnight bag." he said.
"Well you'd better put it on in the taxi, or on the train. The church is only twenty minutes away from the station and the wedding starts thirty minutes after we arrive in Leeds. We're really cutting it fine."
A horn beeped outside.
"Shit, the taxi's here already!" said Bradley and rushed back up for his bag. He came back down and saw Shirl locking the back door behind Craig, who was returning from the garden. "What the fuck is he doing here?"
"Something wrong?" asked Shirl.
"Of course there's something wrong. He's supposed to be in the kennels for the weekend."
