Sunday afternoon Rob and Kelly walked, rolling their luggage, to the registration desk at the Hyatt in Aruba ready to start their honeymoon after getting married yesterday. Jennifer, at the front desk, noticed how stuffy they looked for newlyweds on a tropical island. When they were finished Kelly asked what activities and sightseeing were available. Jennifer directed them to Anna at the concierge desk.
Anna greeted them and asked what she could do for them. Kelly said "We are on our honeymoon and we're interested in activities and sightseeing options."
Anna smiled at them and said: "I hope you are not expecting me to provide a lot of extra activities for you honeymooners."
Rob said: "Actually we would like to keep ourselves busy with lots of outdoor activities."
Anna stopped smiling and said: "Not usually what honeymooners are looking to do in paradise but there are plenty of things I can recommend to keep you occupied." She handed them several brochures and told them to go change into island attire and come back a little later.
They came back just before Anna was going to leave and talked about the options for tonight and tomorrow.
Anna had never seen honeymooners in paradise so overdressed or anxious to find things to do. She told them "Tonight there is a buffet dinner overlooking the beach. What interests you for tomorrow?"
Rob said: "We'd like to do social things where we can meet new people."
Anna told them to "come back first thing in the morning and she'd have ideas for them. Until then enjoy paradise and I'll see you at the buffet dinner."
When they left Jennifer came over and asked her what was going on with the newlyweds?
"I wish I knew I've never seen newlyweds who were less interested in being alone on their honeymoon. I'll find out more about them at the buffet; you should come too."
"Do you think the hotel would approve of me at the buffet: I always thought we weren't supposed to go to those events."
"You're not supposed to" Anna said while squeezing her hand: "but if you are helping me research guest needs it will be all right. Let's change into something islandy and tropical and come back for dinner on the hotel."
"Good thing they tell us to always be prepared for an islandy/tropical "work" event. Let's go get ready."
As Jennifer and Anna were mingling with the hotel guests Rob and Kelly arrived: they had a lot learn about island life. Once again they were overdressed for the beachy buffet atmosphere at a resort in Aruba.
After a few minutes Anna sat down with them and asked; "What is going on with you two? I've been a concierge long enough to how newlyweds act on their honeymoon and you two do not fit the bill. What's up?"
Rob and Kelly stared at each other and then Kelly started: "We've been together for a long time; but we've never been "together". We waited until we got married." Looking at Rob he added: "Let's just say it did not go well."
Anna took their hands and said: "You put two inexperienced people together for anything and it is not a surprise things did not go well. What did you expect?"
Kelly said: "Never-ending nirvana."
"Don't you think that is a bit unreasonable of both of you? Neither of you had experience and you expect perfection on the first try?"
"But listening to her scream in pain "stop" has made us scared to even try. So we are looking for all sorts of things we can do together and be as happy as possible."
