Lisa still couldn't quite believe Hannah was actually coming over. They had been friends for a while and hung out together with their kids. But, for whatever reason, they had never spent any time just the two of them...much to Lisa's chagrin.
It was a happy coincidence that Hannah's kids happened to be at their dad's house the same week Lisa's were at camp. Not holding her breath, she had been shocked when her friend actually agreed, for once, to hang out alone. It had been a week since she asked and Lisa was still surprised that Hannah actually had the time and wanted to hang out. It always felt like something was holding her back, so Lisa never got too excited when she asked her to do anything. But, it didn't stop her from occasionally trying.
The doorbell rang, breaking Lisa from her thoughts.
"Hey! Come on in." It immediately felt weird having Hannah in her house and she wondered if she had made a mistake in inviting her over.
"Set your stuff wherever," Lisa waved her hand as she led Hannah into the kitchen.
"So, what are we doing?" she asked.
"Well, I already have my bathing suit on, sooo..."
Lisa laughed.
"Well, I know how much of a vampire you are, so I wasn't sure if you still wanted to risk it," she teased. It had been a running joke between them for a while. One of the few things Lisa liked about summer was getting a tan. But, between Hannah's job keeping her indoors most days and her fair complexion, the poor woman never tanned, she just burned. So, Lisa had taken to calling her a vampire this time of year.
"For you, yes," Hannah made a face at her and stuck out her tongue.
"Besides, it's too hot out."
"Well, just tell me when you're ready to come in," Lisa offered.
"Can you do me a favor and put some sunscreen on my shoulders?" she pulled her cover-up over her head carefully, trying not to mess up her dirty blonde hair she had already put up. She couldn't help noticing that Hannah was having a hard time making eye contact with her...and it looked like her eyes were having a seizure. Lisa tried not to laugh as she handed her the bottle of sunscreen.
Hannah took the bottle and tried to keep her composure as her friend turned around, which was no easy feat once she started rubbing the lotion on Lisa's bare shoulders. Her cleavage being on display was bad enough. But, touching her was quickly getting Hannah hot and bothered.
"Thanks," Lisa took the bottle back when she was finished. She tried to ignore the strange look on Hannah's face.
"Do you need me to do you?" Lisa offered.
Hannah stifled a giggle at the phrase that could easily be misconstrued. She needed to get her head out of the gutter.
"Nope. Already got it covered," she pulled off her own cover-up.
"Oh," Lisa couldn't keep the disappointment out of her voice. She Aldo couldn't keep her eyes from bugging out of her head at the new sight.
"You DO own a real swimsuit!" Lisa teased.
"I just bought it," Hannah replied sheepishly. Her self-consciousness about showing so much of herself was obvious.
"Listen, I know you're weird about showing your body off and I totally get it. Aren't we all? But, you look great! Besides, it's just me," Lisa smiled, trying to alleviate her fears.
"Now come on," she waved her hand toward the sliding glass door that opened to the deck.
Lisa couldn't help herself. She kept stealing glances at Hannah as they floated around the pool when there were lulls in their conversations and she wasn't looking. She'd never seen that much of Hannah's body. And she'd be lying if she said she didn't greatly enjoy the view. Hannah's ass was one thing, but her cleavage...Lisa knew she didn't like showing her body off after some of the things she had been through in her life, which was completely understandable. Still. Selfishly, she couldn't help wishing she would more often. In Lisa's eyes, and she imagined many other people's, Hannah was beautiful.
"Like what you see?" Hannah said suddenly, smirking. She had felt Lisa's eyes on her and couldn't help herself. She was so fun to mess with.
"You know I do," Lisa answered confidently, but blushed and turned away.
She knew it was probably wrong, but she couldn't help but enjoy how adorable Lisa was when she got embarrassed.
"You know I like more than your ass, right?" Hannah asked out of nowhere a few minutes later. That had been a "thing" between them for a while too; Hannah commenting on Lisa's butt.
"And the fact that you curse like a sailor like me," she teased.
Lisa paused, taken back.
"I do now," she spoke quietly, her brain blanking on what to say.
A few minutes of silence passed, neither of them daring to look at the other.
"Are you getting hot? I know I am?" Lisa asked.
"And I hate for you to burst into flames."
The two women got out and silently towel-dried in the shade of the patio table umbrella.
"How long are you staying?"
"Why? Are you trying to get rid of me already?"
Lisa lowered her eyes.
"No. I'm wondering if I can be a bad influence and talk you into a drink." Lisa had a secret desire to drink with Hannah at least once when she found out how little alcohol she could handle.
Hannah pondered this.
"What times does Henry get home?" she asked.
"Not until 5:30, 6."
"Mmm...then, yes. Just don't get me totally wasted. I'm a lightweight. Don't take advantage of me," they walked in the sliding glass door. "Or do," she spoke under her breath.
Lisa pretended like she didn't hear her, but smiled to herself as they entered the kitchen.
Lisa and Hannah talked about whatever random things floated into their heads as they sipped their drinks. That was one of the many things Lisa liked about her. Their ADHD played well off of each other when it came to conversing. They continued their random thoughts when they got back in the pool...until it somehow took a turn towards their sexuality. They had each known for a while that the other was bisexual, which is where a lot of the past flirting had come from.
"Have you ever kissed a woman?" Hannah asked.
"Yes...have you?"
"No," she answered quietly.
Lisa wasn't surprised, considering her super religious upbringing.
"That's a shame...You know you could have damn near any woman you wanted, right?" The words came before she could stop them. Lisa held her breath. The alcohol was kicking in and she was getting a little too honest for her own good.
Lisa heard her shift on her float and did the same, finding Hannah staring at her.
"And what? You're SO hideous?"
"I'm just saying. Forget I even asked. It was silly of me." She watched as Hannah paddled over to her, coming within inches of her face.
"What are you doing?" Lisa tried not to stutter.
"I've known I'm bi for over 20 YEARS and have never kissed a girl..." the implication hung in the air.
"What about Greg?" Lisa whispered. It was a well-known fact between them that Hannah was monogamous and Lisa was not.
"We had a little chitty chat recently..." Hannah leaned in the rest of the way and locked lips with Lisa.
Lisa's mind raced. She tried not to get her hopes up too high. The last, and second, time she had gotten (mostly) over her massive crush on Hannah had nearly driven her to the looney bin. To say it was "hard" was an understatement.
Without thought, they had both leaned over, balancing precariously on their rafts, and started running their fingers over each other's hair and face. It was a damn good kiss, and it had been YEARS since Lisa had felt another woman's lips on hers. She hadn't realized quite how much she had missed it. It was just...different, softer, gentler.
Lisa had daydreamed about kissing Hannah, and doing other things with her, a thousand times. She never imagined she would actually be doing it in real life...and that it would be even better than she had imagined. The kiss was over before she would have liked, but lasted longer than expected, which was non-existent. Hannah hopped off of her raft and stared at Lisa as if she was waiting for something.
"What?" Lisa laughed nervously.
"Are you going to get up?"
"I'm not a mind reader," she laughed again, plopping next to her friend in the refreshing water.
More silence and staring ensued.
"I hate to tell you, but your Jedi mind tricks aren't working," Lisa held back a laugh.
"Damn," Hannah sighed and they both finally laughed.
Lisa could almost see the gears turning in her head during another pause.
"What is it?" she asked quieter than she had meant.
