Author's Note

In the last chapter, Adelaide learned of the expanding dirigible fleet while putting away jalapeño poppers and beers with her sister Cordelia at the café. As they parted ways, Adelaide ran across Beatrice, the acrobat, and spent the night at Beatrice's girls' cave, eating roasted beetroot and listening to tales of Beatrice's lost lover, Danika, the rightful heir to Empyrea's throne.

This chapter picks up the next morning.

Chapter 10: She's Definitely an Ass Girl

Vivienne and Adelaide's apartment

Adelaide walked in and turned to close and latch the door as quietly as she could. As she turned back around, she came face to face with Vivienne, wearing a bathrobe, not tied, and snapping a blue nitrile glove against the wrist of her left hand. Adelaide bolted upright and stumbled back.

"You don't have to sneak around, Addie," said Vivienne. "I'm not your mother. If you want to bang Tiara all night long, you go right ahead, babe. More power to you."

Adelaide turned her gaze to Vivienne and more specifically, the nitrile glove, and stared. She chewed her lip for a moment. "Are you making me jalapeño poppers, Viv? You're so sweet. It's kind of early in the morning for that, but I want you to know I appreciate the gesture nonetheless."

"Huh?" said Vivienne, knitting her eyebrows, while pulling the matching blue glove from the pocket of her bathrobe and holding it loosely in her right hand.

"The gloves," said Adelaide. "I hear you have to use gloves so the peppers don't irritate your skin."

"Oh, this?" Vivienne held up her gloved hand and wiggled her fingers. "This isn't for jalapeños, honey. This is for Cosette's ass."

Adelaide stood staring for a moment, her eyes wide. As Adelaide silently mouthed the words, Cosette's ass, Cosette came walking down the hall without a bit of clothing on her and carrying an open jar of moisturizing cream.

"Bonjour, Friend Adelaide," said Cosette.

"Um..."

"We're getting into more butt stuff," said Vivienne, inserting her fingers into her right hand glove and wiggling them to get situated.

"Um..."

"Did you know the human anus can stretch to nearly twenty centimeters without damage?" said Cosette.

"Um..."

"Of course that to expand that far takes training," Cosette added. "Today my goal is two of Friend Vivienne's fingers."

Beside Adelaide, Vivienne held up her right hand, pushing her index and middle finger in the air. She snapped the glove against her wrist and smirked. "The trick is to start small and go slow, with lots of lube and lots of communication."

"Um..."

"You want to watch?" asked Vivienne. She turned to Cosette. "If that's okay with you, honey."

"Oui. C'est bon," said Cosette. "There is another pair of gloves in the bedroom."

"Um... no," said Adelaide. "I'm sure your ass is luxuriously elastic Friend Cosette, but I didn't sleep well last night. I need to spend some quality time in bed... um, sleeping. In bed, sleeping. Not... you know... Just sleeping."

"Of course, friend, I understand," said Cosette. "You were making sweet love to your girl Tiara until the early morning light and now you are all worn out. I will try to keep my moaning to a minimum so I do not disturb your slumber."

"Actually, I was over at--"

"When the day comes that I am able to take all of Friend Vivienne's fingers, I will let you know. You can invite Tiara. Then we can all--"

"Really, that's alright," said Adelaide. "You two have your fun. I'll just be... I'll be sleeping... In my bed... By myself... Sleeping."

"Bonne nuit, Friend Adelaide. Sweet dreams."

"Um, yeah," said Adelaide. "Good night." She turned to squeeze past Cosette and shuffled through the door to her bedroom. Adelaide closed the door and flopped onto her mattress, clothes and all.

"Twenty centimeters," Adelaide mumbled, as she closed her eyes.

"Ooh, Friend Vivienne," heard Adelaide, from the other side of the door. "C'est bon!"

Adelaide dragged her pillow out from under her head and flopped it on top, pulling it down over her ears. "Just not on the table, please," she mumbled. "I do my homework there."

"Oui! Friend Vivienne! C'est bon! C'est bon!"

Three and a half hours later

"Cosette?" said Adelaide, as she stepped through her bedroom door and into the hallway. "Cosette, honey, I'm peeing. If you want to... You know... I know you like to watch. Cosette?"

"Hm." Adelaide shrugged and wandered down the hall to sit on the toilet alone. She stared at the discarded pair of blue nitrile gloves, turned inside out and lying on top of the waste basket and shuddered.

"Twenty centimeters," she mumbled. "I did not need to know that. I could have lived my whole life without... Twenty centimeters. Oh, for friend's sake."

Adelaide finished, tugged at the toilet paper, and stood up to flush. After washing her hands, she wandered down the hall toward the kitchen. Approaching the kitchen table, Adelaide saw a note. She picked it up.

Gone to café for lunch. Join us when you wake up. Might even let you order jalapeño poppers if you hurry.

Love, Viv

"If I hurry," chuckled Adelaide.

Adelaide walked over to the refrigerator. She opened the door and stared inside. After a minute, she closed the door again. "Jalapeño poppers it is, then," mumbled Adelaide, as she turned and headed to the front door, grabbing her scarf just before she left the apartment.

Empyrea City Café, twenty minutes later

Adelaide opened the door of the café, walked inside, and stood at the entrance looking this way and that. From several meters away, Vivienne shot her hand in the air and waved. "Addie! Addie, you made it!"

"Sorry it took so long," said Adelaide, shedding her scarf as she approached the table where Vivienne and Cosette sat facing each other. "The trolley's out again and I had to walk."

"I know," said Vivienne, scooting her chair closer to Cosette to make room at the table. "Thought they were supposed to be done with track maintenance by now."

Adelaide shrugged and pulled out a chair. She turned her gaze to Cosette. "How's your derrière, friend?" she whispered, smirking.

"Bon. C'est bon. Friend Vivienne is a most patient and gentle lover. I am most satisfied with her first two-finger foray into my ass."

Vivienne leaned over to rest her head on Cosette's shoulder momentarily. "Aww, thank you honey. You're so sweet."

"Glad to hear it went well," said Adelaide.

Cosette sat up straight. Her eyes went wide. "We did not keep up awake with our lovemaking, did we?"

"No. No. You didn't. Not at all. I was out like a light."

"Oh, bon." Cosette relaxed her posture.

From the back of the café, an ear-splitting noise of electrified instruments erupted all at once, went on for several seconds, and then fell silent just as quickly as it started. Vivienne, Cosette, and Adelaide all looked at each other for a moment.

Adelaide was first to speak. "That sounded like--"

"Friend Tiara's band," said Vivienne and Cosette together.

"Yeah..." said Adelaide, craning her neck and looking back toward the source of the sound.

"Here?" said Vivienne.

Adelaide shrugged.

From the back of the café, Danielle, with her pink hair and guitar case in hand, was the first to emerge. She was frowning. Taylor, using her fingers to push her blonde locks out of her face, was next. Camina and Tiara brought up the rear. Neither woman was smiling.

Adelaide pushed her chair back and stood up.

The café manager, in her pressed trousers and black jacket was last to appear. "I'm sorry," she said to the members of the band, "but you girls are just too darn loud."

Taylor turned around, pushing out her hand as she flashed a tight smile. "Thanks for the audition anyway," she said. "Hope you find somebody."

"No hard feelings, I hope. I'll bring you a round of beers," said the manager. "Maybe stick around for lunch?"

"Tiara!" hollered Adelaide. She stuck her hand in the air and waved. "Tiara!"

As the band wandered over, Vivienne got up to collect a few more chairs from nearby unoccupied tables.

"Pretzel girl," said Camina, grinning and pointing both index fingers at Adelaide.

Adelaide waved.

"Join us for lunch?" asked Vivienne.

Danielle and Taylor exchanged a glance and shrugged before each reaching out for the back of a chair near them. Tiara moved to the seat next to Adelaide and Camina filled in the empty spot beside Tiara and Taylor.

Adelaide locked her eyes on Tiara's backside while Tiara took her seat. "What are you doing here?" she asked Tiara.

Tiara reached out for Adelaide's hand and took it in her own. "Trying to get a gig," she said.

"Unsuccessfully," added Danielle.

Taylor looked around. "I don't think it's the right crowd."

"We should have done the acoustic set," suggested Danielle.

"That's really only two songs in our catalog," said Camina.

Danielle shrugged.

Tiara offered nothing to the conversation. She spent her time weaving her fingers in with Adelaide's and resting their joined hands on Adelaide's thigh. She leaned in toward Adelaide and whispered. "Were you checking out my ass just a minute ago?"

Adelaide blushed. "Maybe. Was I that obvious?"

Tiara smirked as she laid her head on Adelaide's shoulder.

A woman in a white apron appeared with a tray full of beer steins and passed them around the table.

"I know!" exclaimed Camina, grabbing the handle of the stein in front of her. "We should just send Tiara off with Friend Adelaide for a while." Camina took a long pull on her beer and set it down. "Just the two of them, locked in a room with beer, pretzels, and a ream of staff paper. We'd have ballads for days."

Tiara lifted her head and turned to Camina during all of this. She finished by raising her eyebrows and sticking out her tongue. Camina folded her hands over her heart and grinned while Adelaide blushed and hid her face behind her beer stein.

"Uh oh," said Vivienne.

"No," said Danielle. "That's a good idea. I think it could work. A few ballads would be good. Maybe something a little healthier than beer and pretzels, though."

"No," said Vivienne, turning her gaze toward the café entrance. "Look."

"Ugh, not her," said Adelaide, as she stole a glance at the woman in the Air Self-Defense Force officer's uniform walking in with a leggy blonde draped on her arm.

"Keep an eye on your drinks, ladies," said Camina, pulling her beer in close. "She definitely looks the type to slip you a Mickey before she takes you home."

"A Mickey?" said Cosette.

Vivienne leaned in. "A drug in your drink," she said.

"

Un sédatif,

" said Cosette. "

Très mauvais.

"

Vivienne nodded.

"Who the hell is that?" asked Danielle.

"She's got a thing for Adelaide," said Vivienne. "Hits on her all the time."

"Adelaide's got a girl," said Taylor. "And apparently, so does this broad."

"Yeah," said Danielle. "And dressed like that, I don't think it's her sister she walked in with."

"Maybe she'll leave me alone," mumbled Adelaide.

"Maybe," said Camina. "But if she doesn't, can I punch her? I feel like somebody ought to knock that self-assured smirk off her face."

Taylor slid her hand over Camina's forearm and patted her twice. "Let's try not to get banned from the place just yet."

While Camina grumbled, Tiara gripped Adelaide's hand a little tighter under the table, and scooted her chair to sit closer.

"Uh-oh," said Vivienne. "Here she comes."

The woman in the Air Self-Defense uniform sauntered over to the table where Adelaide and her friends sat. Oblivious to the blonde on her arm and the other women at the table, she fixed her gaze directly on Adelaide. "Hello, friend," she said.

"Keep an eye on those drinks, girls," reminded Camina. The woman in uniform ignored her remark.

"Um, hi," said Adelaide.

"The gang's all here, I see."

"This is my girlfriend," said Adelaide, straightening her posture and pulling closer to Tiara. "She's in a band."

"Explains this motley bunch, I guess."

Camina shifted forward in her chair. Taylor put a hand on Camina's arm.

"I see you have a date," said Adelaide. "Have a nice lunch together."

"Care to join us? We'll be sitting at the bar. My usual spot."

"No, thank you," said Adelaide. Camina shifted in her seat again.

"Too bad." The woman surveyed the group around the table. "A girl like you could definitely do better."

Camina pushed her chair back and stood up. "Listen, lady--"

"No, I've got this," said Adelaide. She stood up. "You don't have anything I'm interested in, so there's really no point in you--"

"What are you interested in?"

Adelaide cocked her head. "Excuse me?"

"What are you interested in?"

"Not this," said Adelaide. "Having a beer with my friends. Yes. Being treated with respect. Definitely. And an awareness that no means no. Most assuredly."

"I understand. My apologies."

"And I, uh... okay then," said Adelaide.

"You know where to find me when you change your mind." The Air Defense officer turned on her heel, dropped her hand to cup the ass of the blonde she was with, and walked toward the bar.

Adelaide sat down hard and pulled in a deep breath.

"You were fabulous," said Tiara.

"Oh, dear friend," moaned Adelaide. "That took everything I had." She held her hand out for Tiara to see. Her fingers were shaking.

"Come here," said Tiara, taking Adelaide's hand in hers and wrapping an arm around her shoulders to pull her close.

"Proud of you, Addie," said Vivienne, touching a hand to Adelaide's shoulder.

Adelaide let out a shuddering breath. She reached for her beer and didn't set it down for some time.

"I still want to punch her in the face," mumbled Camina.

"Can we get some jalapeño poppers?" blurted Adelaide.

Many beers and many jalapeño poppers later

"It's chilly out," said Adelaide, shuddering briefly.

"Good thing we're drunk, then," said Tiara, wrapping her hand around Adelaide's and tugging her over. Tiara's pull sent Adelaide crashing up against her. She dipped her head. "And I really want to kiss you."

Adelaide puckered her lips before looking up to meet Tiara's gaze. She batted her lashes twice and then grinned.

"You're a dork," said Tiara, taking a stumbling half step back.

"I'm drunk," said Adelaide, closing the distance and wrapping her arms around Tiara's neck. "And I fully expect you to take advantage of me in my present state. So bring on those kisses, friend."

Adelaide pulled her arms tighter. While Tiara leaned in, lips first, Adelaide barged in with her tongue and let her right hand drop to slide over Tiara's back and come to rest on Tiara's ass. Adelaide squeezed.

Tiara chuckled briefly, but stopped as soon as Adelaide put her left hand behind Tiara's head and pulled to lock them together.

"Friend Adelaide," heaved Tiara, when she was finally released.

"You know how I get when I've had a few beers," said Adelaide.

"I'm not complaining." Tiara puckered up again.

"I want to get your clothes off."

Tiara smirked "You're very direct."

Adelaide shrugged. "Take me to bed."

"Your place?"

Adelaide shook her head. "Trolley's out and I don't want to walk that far. Plus, Vivienne's probably banging Cosette already. I feel like they deserve some privacy."

"You realize I live in a house with eleven other girls? And the curtains on the bunks are pretty thin."

Adelaide wrapped her hand around Tiara's head and swooped in to mash her lips hard for several seconds. "Then keep your mouth on mine so I won't make too much noise."

Tiara grinned.

Adelaide switched her grip to latch onto Tiara's butt cheeks with both hands. "I want to feel you making a mess on my thigh while I've got this fine ass in my hands and your fingers up inside me."

"Friend Adelaide..."

"And your tongue down my throat." Adelaide mashed her lips against Tiara's again. When she finally let up, she said, "So we don't disturb your roommates."

Tiara stood grinning. "I think I could do that."

"Good," said Adelaide, weaving her fingers in with Tiara's. "Let's get going. It's cold out here."

Tiara nodded and they set off under the orange glow of the sidewalk lamps, their joined hands swinging.

In the bunk room, Tiara's bunk

"Ouch!" hollered Tiara as she whacked her head on the bottom of the bunk above hers.

Underneath, on the mattress, Adelaide had her head thrown back, buried deep in Tiara's pillow. Her knees were bent and apart. She was clinging to Tiara's backside with both hands while her eyelids fluttered. Adelaide pulled at Tiara, sinking her fingers into the curve of Tiara's flesh, oblivious to her complaints.

Tiara kept her fingers poised between Adelaide's thighs and buried somewhere between the second and third knuckle.

"Maybe you should be on top, friend," suggested Tiara. "I think I'm too tall for this."

Adelaide shook her head. With her left hand, she switched her grip to Tiara's hip, pushing her back and pulling her forward again in keeping with the rhythm they had developed. With her right, Adelaide splayed her fingers, wrapping them around the back of Tiara's head. She pulled down.

"Kiss me!" heaved Adelaide, bucking in time with Tiara's hips.

"Friend Adelaide--"

"I'm gonna come! Kiss me! Now! Before I scream!"

Adelaide squeezed her right hand, tangling her fingers in Tiara's hair. She arched her back as she pulled Tiara down.

Tiara lowered her head and never stopped thrusting.

Adelaide sealed her lips around Tiara's mouth. "Mmmmm-aahhhhhh!" She quivered and shook, kicking her heels on the mattress.

Adelaide collapsed and sank into the sheets. She let her grip on Tiara slacken and her arms fell to the mattress. "Ohhhh..." she moaned as the air seeped out of her lungs.

Free of Adelaide's grip on her hair, Tiara straightened up as much as she could in the confined space. She pulled a deep breath, grinned. Tiara flopped over to land beside Adelaide.

Adelaide popped her head up. "I want to do you now."

"Friend Adelaide."

"No, really, it's not fair, you did all the--"

"Friend Adelaide." Tiara propped herself up on her elbow, smirked, and touched a finger to Adelaide's chin. "Check your thigh."

Adelaide reached down with a fingertip. She dragged it upward and came back to pop it in her mouth.

"Friend Tiara!" she said. "You left sticky girl juice all over my leg."

"I was coming the whole time."

"You were very stoic about it."

"You told me we had to be quiet and not disturb the other girls."

Adelaide dragged her finger over her thigh again and dashed it in her mouth. She grinned, taking Tiara by the cheeks with both her hands and kissing her for several seconds.

"Friend Adelaide."

"Friend Tiara."

The two of them lock eyes for some time in the dim illumination filtering through the curtain that closed off Tiara's bunk from the rest of the room.

"It's still early evening. We could go again."

"Friend Adelaide, please. Let me catch my breath."

"Can you do it lying on your stomach? I want a good view of that fabulous ass of yours. I love that ass!"

"Friend Adelaide, I think the best thing might be to make some tea and sandwiches. It's been a while since lunch and you've been exerting yourself quite a bit."

"Are you worried about my blood sugar, baby?"

Tiara nodded.

"You're so sweet."

Tiara held out her hand. "Come on, friend. I'll get you something to wear and we'll go to the kitchen."

In the youth hostel kitchen

Adelaide leaned on her elbow with her hip pressed up against the butcher block table that dominated the center of the kitchen. She was dressed in an oversized Empyrea City Clippers T-shirt and nothing else. Adelaide reached for another triangle of sandwich from the plate beside her and shoved half of it into her mouth at once.
