Anelia and Kaylen were thrust back from the door by some sort of energy wave. Kaylen couldn't put her finger on what it was, but being stopped so close to their goal was frustrating. The soft blue glow of the artifact just past the door was tempting her. Goading her on to do something dumb to speed this up. She couldn't do that however... getting herself hurt in front of Alenia would not go over well with the half giant.
The much taller woman punched the wall causing it to crack a little, "Why must these things always be so difficult. I just want to get paid." Anelia was currently covered in a stick black blood from the monsters they had been fighting in the dungeon.
Kaylen shrugged, crouching down she started to draw a sigil on the floor, "How about this love. Let's go back home and get you cleaned up. I can think over what to do next and we will come back tomorrow."
Anelia grunted, "What if someone else comes and takes it from us? Then we wouldn't be able to afford that house extension." Kaylen rolled her eyes as she opened up the portal home.
"No one will steal it from us. I placed blocking spells on the entrance and as we walked. It would take days to get to this point without me~ Now come along you big baby. As hot as you look covered in gore I would prefer my baby clean." She snapped her fingers twice then pointed at the portal.
The big woman hung her head, "Yes Ma'am." She said walking through it looking a little disappointed they were done adventuring. Once they were home Kaylen had Anelia get cleaned up in the river by their home. The inside bathroom needed some more modification before the large woman would fit inside it. But their property was very private, so Anelia often did a bit of skinny dipping to get herself clean. The water was cold but that never bothered the half giant.
Once she was clean Kaylen brought her inside and had her dress up in a nightgown that was a little skimpy just so she would have something to look at while she worked. Anelia worked on a logic puzzle while Kaylen started to read on possible solutions to their problem from the books in their vast library. Clad only in her robe she sat on Anelia's lap curled up against her like she was a big comfy stuffed animal.
They stayed like that for some time until Kaylen fell asleep. Anelia sighed softly at this as it was a pretty usual occurrence for her lover to fall asleep in her lap. So she picked up the much smaller girl and carried her to their oversized bed. Laying her down she wrapped the little wizardess in both blankets and her body. Being the big spoon always she could practically envelop her little mage. Anelia eventually fell asleep like that curled around Kaylen protecting her from the cold, the dark, and anything else that could hurt her.
The next morning was very uneventful. The small mage had her magical kitchen make them some breakfast and they spent most of the morning eating, chatting and reading. Anelia didn't like to read though so she continued to work on her puzzle. She wasn't very book smart like her lover. But she was very good with her large hand and was weirdly good at reading people. Kaylen was the opposite really. Clumsy unless she was using magic, terrible with people and she loved to read. Didn't matter what it was as long as it was words on a page.
At about midday Kaylen jumped out of Anelia's lap exclaiming, "I think I figured it out! We just need to search the left hand side of the wall. Find the correct stone and draw a depowering sigil... Or do we need to do it on the right hand side?" She paused reading over the passage again before tossing the book over her shoulder. It dutifully floated back to its place on the shelf.
"Regardless, let's go!" Kaylen snapped her fingers and their adventuring gear was back. Anelia in her armor and Kaylen in her robes. A portal opened and they were back where they left off the day before. A search was started for a nice smooth gray stone amongst all of the not smooth gray stones. Anelia didn't really understand what was happening there, but she tried to help all the same.
It took only an hour to finally find the stone. Kaylen quickly pulled out her magic chalk and drew the signal upon it. A moment or two of silence passed and Anelia was about to remark on how nothing happened. Then suddenly another wave of energy washed over them. This time it didn't push them back. Instead it pulled them towards the door. Kaylen frowned at this looking at Anelia for a moment.
"I never like when artifacts pull you towards them. Usually it means they are cursed." Anelia nodded, she had the same idea.
"Lets just put it in a box and give it to the buyer. I don't want to be around it any longer than we have to." Said the half giant letting Kaylen do her work. She carefully floated the artifact, which was a small necklace with a red gem in the middle, into a magical box sealing it inside. Then they left through a portal going to the nearby town. They went to the shopkeeper who had requested the artifact.
When they opened the door she lit up knowing what that meant. "Ah my heroes! You found it?!?"
Kaylen nodded, holding out the box, "Yes we did Tara." Tara was a pretty typical human female. Long black hair, fair skin, and piercing blue eyes. She looked at the box with wonder.
