It was the early hours of the night in Tokyo, Japan.
It had been a crazy adventure.
It had started on New Years Eve, when Shadow Knight's sister Rachel Kishi and his adopted daughter Kairi Kishi were both kidnapped by the Ninjazons, agents of the immortal Warlord known as The Shogun. A genocidal madman from the Feudal Era who desired to wipe out any and all non-Japanese races and people...and anyone who wasn't pure blooded Japanese as well. He had attempted to do so by launching a terror campaign with a biological weapon, a Virus that would wipe out anyone who wasn't Japanese, one that was created and programed by nanites from an Alternate Future provided to him by the Time Breakers to cause chaos in the present time.
He called it the Red Sun Virus, and it was as deadly as it sounded.
The villain had test fired it upon a city in China as revenge for the invasion attempts by the Mongols.
Chameleon, the time traveling defender of the time stream who looked like a humanoid lizard man in a trench coat but who could shapeshift his appearance and form to fit in no matter what era he was in, had managed to procure a remedy to this virus from an alternate future and brought it back to the past for SLEET to mass produce to combat this threat.
As it turned out, the Virus was only one part of the archvillains master plan. He also planned to find the hidden kingdom of the mythical Princess Kaguya-Himme and obtain her powers so that no one would ever be able to stop him after Shadow Knight had beaten him the first time, sending him to what he had thought had been a watery grave in the waters of the Pacific.
The bastard had not only survived, but had walked the long way home across the floor of the ocean. His immortality and kinetic absorption and strength enhancement given to him centuries ago by the Tree of Life had saved him.
But while he searched for this treasure, he had also enacted a revenge scheme that had been several years in the making. As it turned out, Rachel was the one who had kidnapped Kairi. She had been unknowingly taking a mind control drug for years in her medicinal tea and secretly indoctrinated into being one of The Shogun's Ninjazons. She had been brainwashed into thinking her brother, Kagae Kishi, had been the one who had murdered their sister Mariko and raped her that fateful night instead of one of The Brain Of Crime's hitmen...the Black Alley cat Murderer, Blackie Nelson.
The same man who became the supervillain Dark Shadow, the killer of Kairi's family.
Believing these lies, Rachel had nearly killed her own brother who had fallen into the trap laid out for him by his Archenemy. Thankfully, Spectress, who had been assigned to investigate Yakuza ties to the Viral attack in China had learned about the attempt on her estranged childhood friends life and had come to his rescue. Reconciling after years of being apart after their mission in Dubai had ended badly between them, the two teamed up to track down Kairi and find the Lost city before The Shogun could.
In the underground city The Shogun managed to poison both Kairi and Spectress with the Virus before challenging Shadow Knight to brave the deadly traps and puzzles defending the resting place of the Moon Empress herself.
A great battle ensued between The Shogun's forces and S.L.E.E.T which ended with The Shogun being infected with his own virus, learning to his disgust and disbelief that he wasn't pure blooded and buried under a mountain of rubble.
Hopefully this time, he was gone for good.
Rachel had been broken free of her brainwashing as well by that point.
But things hadn't ended as cleanly as everyone would have hoped. While the world had been saved and Kairi and Spectress had both been given the cure. Shadow Knight in an attempt to motivate Spectress to fight for her life against the virus... had kissed her. Revealing to her how much she meant to him. This had the unfortunate side affect of infecting him as well, wrecking havoc with his healing ability and shadow powers, and putting him at a severe disadvantage against his enemy. Ultimately leaving him a nearly dying, bleeding, wounded mess after the battle despite coming out the victor.
He had been given the cure, and been taken here to the Tokyo SLEET medical wing in the Japanese chapter of the world wide counter terrorism and espionage agency.
Right now, the enigmatic Chameleon and Rachel Kishi walked down the hall towards the medical wing of the Japanese S.L.E.E.T base.
They were checking up on Shadow Knight and how the doctors were faring trying to heal him.
The two of them made their way down the hall, and into the room where the Healer machine was located.
The machine was a H shaped in design, with a long glass tube running horizontally between two energy emitters. Inside the tube was a comfy yet also firm medical bed.
The machine was designed to emit a type of M-Radiation that would cause rapid healing and regeneration in afflicted subjects placed within that capsule. The shutters around the glass would close when the machine was active.
Right now, the shutters were closed.
She couldn't see inside to know if her brother was okay or not.
Commander Arcane, Hardcastle, and the Japanese commander of SLEET were already there, waiting for the machine to do its work mending the wounds her brother had sustained during his battle with The Shogun.
She had no problem walking in there without wearing her Ninjazon mask, as far as anyone outside of Commanders Arcane and Hardcastle knew...she was just a rich American woman who got swept up in this insanity as part of The Shoguns genocidal plot who Shadow Knight had tracked down and rescued after being recruited by SLEET to do so.
No one else in the room knew that was her brother who was under that fright mask.
"Miss Kishi, Chameleon..." Commander Hardcastle greeted, "Thank you for joining us."
"I just wanted to make sure the man who saved my life is okay," Rachel Kishi said to the female commander of SLEET, "He looked pretty bad when you wheeled him in here on that gurney."
"He was" the head TechNet doctor stepped in, "a few minutes later and we might not have been able to help him, and if Spectress hadn't injected him with the cure Chameleon provided to SLEET for that strain of the Red Sun Virus...then you would be paying for his funeral flowers and casket Miss Kishi instead of thanking him. She saved his life."
"She did...more than once..." Rachel Kishi nodded in acknowledgment "I guess even the Shadow Knight needs saving sometimes."
She remembered when Spectress had come to her brothers rescue during the trap in Skytree Tower the other night. How she had nearly kicked hers and the assembled Ninjazons asses to protect him when he was vulnerable. The Shogun had called her a 'Kitsune' because of her beauty and deadly prowess with her bio-suit's combat capabilities which were rather a lot like the Venom symbiote in those Spider-Man comics her brother used to read as a kid.
"You didn't remove the mask, did you?" Rachel Kishi asked concerned.
"Didn't have to" the TechNet doctor assured her, "the shadow knight's condition did not warrant us removing it. This machine could fix that slash cut on his face without having to remove it. Although I have to admit...we were tempted to take it off to find out who it is under that mask. But protocol is protocol and orders are orders. We're doctors, not spies."
"Is he still in there?" Chameleon asked.
"They both are" The head TechNet doctor answered.
"They?" Commander Arcane asked in response, quirking his head in question.
The head TechNet doctor pushed back the brim of his glasses and gathered his words.
"The woman who came in with him, one of your Agents Commander, she had some severe bruising around her trachea and some minor injuries, nothing that warranted the use of 'The Healer' machine. But she refused to leave his side, so we threw them both in."
