Julie was new to the city, just starting out in her first year at the local college. On the advice of James, her academic advisor, she decided to apply for membership for pi, one of the lesser-known sorority groups. It was described as a great way to meet some new friends, to build community, and even get involved in some meaningful volunteer activities. Pi members had an arrangement with one of the city's homeless shelters, and had a great reputation for charity.
Of course, James was a well-paid scout for suitable pi members, especially for an exclusive group called "pi gold." There were physical criteria, which could be quite broad, but in short required distinctively good looks -- casting a wide net to include conventional beauty such as typical cheerleader types, to odd or quirky types such as the stereotypical skinny, nerdy scholar. Candidates had to submit a detailed personal history and personality questionnaire which took several hours to complete; once again candidates had to be distinctive, but with a wide net to include extroverts, introverts, quirky eccentrics, religious conservatives, sheltered naive girls, bitchy or arrogant girls, etc. Virgins were especially valued, provided the personality questionnaire showed evidence of having healthy--though often repressed--interest in young men, preferentially with a lurking but undeveloped sensuality. And of course candidates had to be in perfect health, physically and mentally.
Julie was a conventional beauty with a shy personality. She could have been a cheerleader or even a model except she was too short for conventional modeling, at just 5 feet, and having breasts that were a little bit small and droopy. Otherwise, she had a perfect physique: skinny, perfect smooth skin, a pale complexion, light blonde hair, delicate feminine facial features, tiny delicate hands and twig-like slender limbs, shoulder-length light blonde straight hair, beaming deep blue eyes with a sensual rose-petal mouth with perfect teeth, a very thin delicate neck and perfect little delicate ears. She had delicate, dancer-like movements when walking casually and little habits such as twirling or fidgeting with her delicate, tiny feet when she sat in a chair, which often didn't reach the floor on account of her small stature, almost as though her little feet were searching for a partner to cuddle with. She had short nails, and never wore any jewelry or makeup except a little bit of lip gloss sometimes that made her mouth look wet. She wore sweet feminine girly but modest clothes, including with the only adornment being a little red bow in her hair sometimes.
Once accepted to the sorority Julie felt a sense of immediate acceptance, friendship, and warmth. The sorority house itself was modest but safe and comfortable. There were modest social events, community volunteering activities, and lots of friendship time with the senior sorority sisters, where they exchanged life stories. Julie felt she had a pretty boring life story, with a simple happy childhood, healthy habits, good parents, a little bit too religious but she also valued her the basic principles of her faith, such as the importance of kindness, modesty, charity, and showing respect to everyone regardless of their station in life.
One room in the sorority house was off limits unless you were part of a special group called "Sorority Gold." Julie didn't think much of this initially, but as weeks passed she became more and more curious about the Gold group, and naturally curious about what was inside that room. The sorority sisters initially avoided Julie's questions about this, just stating that Gold was a special thing for girls who'd earned special standing in the group, usually after a couple of years. They would say just enough to pique Julie's interest, but not enough to really inform her of anything substantial.
Finally, one day, Julie and the other girls were having a serious conversation, sharing stories about themselves, and she asked the girls directly, "I feel so close to all of you...and to the sorority...I'm really interested in this Gold thing...I even feel a little bit left out."
The other girls paused, and Linda, the sorority house leader, glanced at the others, in a questioning pose, after which everyone else quietly gave assenting nods.
"Julie, Sorority Gold has to do with interacting with the fraternity groups, and finding a partner. It's a little bit like a matchmaking service, where we all decide together and help each other with relationships. I know you're probably too busy right now for this...and also we have a membership ceremony that you might not be ready for."
Julie blushed. She was too busy with school to think about relationships, but she was curious and eager to be accepted more fully by her sisters.
She begged to know more about what was involved, and what the membership ceremony was.
Finally Linda and a few of the other girls explained in detail.
"Here at pi we believe in freedom and liberation...free choice and control...love and openness...and we feel that sexuality is something sacred that should be developed and enjoyed with the embrace and help of community and friends...marriage is a little bit like that, but our ceremony is like a symbolic taste of what marriage would be like, while still staying free and connected to our group, without locking yourself into a commitment when you're not quite ready."
Julie was a little confused and had the slightest frown of concern about the sexual content. This seemed a little bit odd--maybe Linda was right that she wasn't ready for something like this.
Linda picked up on this right away, and observed "it's ok Julie, it's not for everyone, and we would never ever pressure anyone to be part of Gold. It's so important for us to accept you even if you don't join, you've really become one of our dearest friends, and it's amazing how quickly we've all felt close to you."
