Chapter 1
"Tell Isla I'm sorry I can't drop in for a bit, as I really need to rush to make the flight. Have a nice stay!" Anastasia's mom told her before driving off, leaving the girl stood at the entrance of Sapphire Lane with her roller luggage.
Anastasia shrugged, and walked down Sapphire Lane, a cul-de-sac in the suburbs lined with large detached houses. She was a pale girl, with straight dark brown hair, icy blue eyes, and round face that was cute rather than beautiful, and highly expressive with eyes that easily widened, and a brow that often furrowed.
She was fairly short, slim but not skinny with a cute butt clad in ripped denim shorts, and teardrop shaped breasts that had a gap of pale chest between them, and though a little fleshy, were fairly flat so didn't cause much of a visible curve beneath her green vest.
The girl followed the bend in the road until she got to No. 26 which was the home of Isla, her godmother who she had been sent to stay with for a fortnight while her mom was abroad on a business trip. At eighteen years old, Anastasia was perfectly capable of staying at home by herself however her mom knew from experience that her daughter would throw house parties in her absence so this time had insisted she stayed with Isla instead.
The girl had argued, reminding her mom of a burglary that had happened to them not too long ago where the woman had lost all her jewellery, so suggesting it would be best if they didn't leave their house empty. However her mom had rejected this excuse, saying that it wasn't like her jewellery could be stolen for a second time!
Reluctantly the girl knocked on the door. She hadn't any specific dislike for her godmother, but was embarrassed to be forced to stay with her while her mom went abroad, and knew the woman would be quite strict towards her even though she was an adult.
Isla answered the door. She was in her late forties, attractive and around the same height as Anastasia, with wavy auburn hair, bright red lipstick, and a busty chest which she often seemed to show off with her chosen outfits. Today she was dressed casually in jeans and a white vest that displayed her cleavage which even her goddaughter couldn't help glancing at appreciatively.
"Hi honey, how are you?" The woman greeted her goddaughter, pulling the girl into a hug. Anastasia blushed when she felt the woman's breasts push against her chest.
"I'm okay, mom was running late as usual so she had to rush on to the airport rather than popping in..."
"That's okay, we don't want her to miss her flight. Come in, you can leave your luggage in the hallway for now." Isla beckoned the girl inside and led her into the spacious lounge with plush sofas, a large TV, and a full-to-the-brim bookcase.
Anastasia sat on one of the sofas, and it wasn't long until her godmother joined her, with coffee and biscuits.
"So, how are things going academically?"
Anastasia sipped her coffee, blushing as she knew her godmother would be asking her about that. She had flunked her high school exams quite badly, which meant her mom had refused to pay for an end of school holiday. She had managed to go on it anyway, but now, when all her peers had gone to college, gotten apprenticeships, or even just went straight into work, she was studying from home to do some retakes which hopefully meant, after a 'gap year', she could begin at Violet Liberal Arts College who had rejected her based on her current grades.
The girl had meant to have gotten a part-time job too, her mom insisting she contributed to living costs while also at least getting a little work experience in her gap year, but so far Anastasia had been too lazy to get round to it.
She told her godmother a vague outline of this, trying to make it sound like it was more due to bad luck than laziness on her part when it came for studying, however knew the woman likely had heard everything from her mom anyway.
"So how did you pay for the holiday if your mom refused? As you never had a job, and it seemed quite a lavish one from the photos I've seen online for you to have paid for by saving up your allowance!"
"Oh, I won a lottery ticket that about covered it. Guess I'm lucky some of the time!" Anastasia forced a laugh, though in truth how she had paid for her holiday was an awkward subject.
"Really, because I thought that was what all the money from your little scheme would have been spent on..." Isla smiled knowingly at her goddaughter.
"My little scheme?" Anastasia asked, her eyes widening at the question though tried to remain composed, telling herself it must be some joke she just wasn't getting.
"Okay, let's not beat around the bush, I know you stole your mom's jewellery then offloaded it to pay for the holiday!"
Anastasia's hand shook, and she had to put her coffee down. "What the hell? Why would you think that? It was burglars!" She tried to act both shocked and angry at the accusation, but gave a poor performance, as she was really reeling at how her godmother had known!
Isla rolled her eyes. "Don't try pretending honey, I've got the jewellery upstairs. I happened to go into that weird little thrift store that does jewellery after hearing about how your mom's was stolen... I was just looking for a trinket for a fancy dress costume so was shocked to see a box of rings, necklaces, brooches, and earrings which I recognised as belonging to your mom! So of course I bought it all..."
"So you found her jewellery! Why haven't you told her then? And what's that got to do with me, the burglars must of flogged it to the store!"
Isla laughed. "Because I also asked the store owner who brought it in, saying I recognised it from a friend and they said it was some young woman matching your description... and then confirmed it was you when I showed them photos from your social media. I then explained the situation a bit more, and persuaded them to find the CCTV footage of you as evidence..."
Anastasia flushed, knowing she couldn't pretend now. "Okay, it was me... I just really wanted to go on the holiday and my mom was refusing to pay for it!"
"So you stole all her jewellery? The value is one thing, and it was quite a large sum you took, but didn't you also think how irreplaceable some of it was, like I know there were items passed down from your grandmother, and great grandmother!"
"Yeah... my mom was really upset and I felt bad. I even went back to the store but they didn't have it there so guess that was after you found it... so thought I might as well go on the holiday. But why didn't you tell my mom all this?" Anastasia wondered, not thinking her godmother was the type to protect her from trouble she most definitely deserved.
