It had finally happened. After months of maintaining a secret relationship with her brother's bully, Jesse, they had finally been found out. Kaitlyn had felt like it was an inevitability; ever since their first encounter, she and Jesse had been pushing the envelope and playing with fire. While she had started their arrangement with the best of intentions, protecting Oliver from his tormentors, her feelings had begun to spiral out of control.

As the world came crashing down around her, Kaitlyn felt in shock. While it had been a month since Oliver had caught her and Jesse in the Britannia Heights University library, Kaitlyn couldn't help but relive that day over and over in her mind. The look of horror on Oliver's face as he gazed upon his sister; her face covered in what little remained of Jesse's cum that she could not wipe off, had been burned into her brain. In a matter of seconds, her twin brother's expression seemingly went from confusion, to denial and settling on anger. It had been the look of complete betrayal that she had feared: when her brother would see the only person he trusted in the world with the person he hated most.

Kaitlyn's imagination ran wild as to what he thought at that moment. Had she known or condoned Jesse's tormenting of him? Did Jesse's friends know, and would this be a new tool he could use to humiliate Oliver? It was easy for her to know what would run through Oliver's head. She had so often been his confidant and knew best how his anxiety would manifest itself. But, what could she do? If she told Oliver the truth, he would be even more devastated. Kaitlyn herself had opened Pandora's box, and she would have to face the consequences of her actions.

Jesse had even tried to step in and defuse the situation; coming to Kaitlyn's aid.

"Listen, like I said I don't want to give you any shit. We were just-" Jesse began to say before Oliver cut him off; his eyes burning bright with rage like embers pulled from the heart of a fire.

"You were just what? Fucking?" Oliver said, his voice quivering with anger as it continued to rise in volume. Turning his attention to Kaitlyn, his face contorted as if pained. "You were fucking that piece of shit of ALL people?"

If Kaitlyn and Jesse had chosen their location to be somewhat discreet, that was quickly being thrown out the window. Even as she struggled to find words, any words that she could use to defend herself, Oliver continued, "I knew you were seeing someone, but it all makes sense why you were hiding it from me. What the fuck did he do to you to make you do this? The Katie I know would never degrade herself by hooking up with-"

"Lower your fucking voice," Jesse snapped, his eyes now matching Oliver's intensity. The body language though was completely different; while Oliver's was like a wounded animal trying to lash out, Jesse's was more defensive. He even went so far as stepping into the row of books, between the siblings. "Do you want the entire library to see her like this?"

Without warning, Oliver struck out, punching Jesse square in the face. The tall man's head snapped back from the sudden shock. There was no pain on his face, only a look of surprise. Kaitlyn could see a vein bulging in Jesse's neck, his eyes flaring with anger for a moment - and it seemed for a moment as though the old Jesse would re-emerge. But with a slow, deep breath, his anger dissipated.

"Ollie, I get your pissed off, but if you do that again it won't end well for you," Jesse said, his voice firm. It was a tone that she had heard so many times; one that was deep, booming, and filled with authority. The voice and tone that had so often dominated her. Oliver's eyes remained icy cold, and it was a look that spoke to a single fact: that his rage at the situation far outweighed his fear of Jesse.

Her brother's mouth opened as if he were about to speak, but hesitated for just a moment before it twisted into a sneer. Without a word, he turned on his heels and stormed towards the exit, a rising din of murmurs echoing from their fellow students who had begun to approach the source of the commotion.

"What's going on over here?" an authoritative voice called out, the sounds of footsteps scratching along the ground coming ever closer to the scene. Jesse's eyes widened, before gesturing towards the approaching onlookers.

"Wipe your face with your sleeve, and I'll stop anyone coming after you. Just walk fast, and I'll bring you your bag after," Jesse said, before quickly planting a kiss on her lips. "Go!"

With that, she hurried through the library; hastily wiping her face as best she could for the remaining cum and hiding her crimson face from those who had come towards the stack. Tears began to well up in her eyes as her fear and the feeling of humiliation began to fester within her chest. A small relief existed as well, a relief that the truth had come out, however, not on her terms. Oliver had long since disappeared as she hurried out of the library, no other students seemingly paying any attention to her. While her face had been mostly cleaned, leaving her sleeve a sticky, wet mess, Kaitlyn did not want to give others a chance to more thoroughly inspect her.

Over the next few days, Kaitlyn had heard rumours of a couple having sex in the campus library. Then, the rumors became more specific: that the man caught in the library was Jesse Campbell. She was not surprised that he was recognized; he was the president of the most popular fraternity on campus, was an athlete for the University's team, and was known by almost every student and faculty member.

Thankfully, the rumours did not progress any further. Of course, some speculated about the identity of his partner. Many believed it to be a sorority girl, while others claimed it was a professor. Regardless of how outlandish these rumors became, at no point was the name "Kaitlyn Grant" mentioned. News continued to trickle out from the aftermath, such as Jesse's interrogation by the Dean of the University, and how he refused to admit who his companion was. What shocked her the most though, was news about Jesse being placed on academic probation for his part in the scandal. It was only due to his status among the school community, that it was the extent of his punishment.

As the flurry of gossip began to die down over the following weeks, campus life had begun to slowly sink back into the beauty of routine.

Although, her home life certainly hadn't.

If their relationship had been strained before, things between Kaitlyn and Oliver had become outright hostile after the library incident. Whenever they passed one another at home, whenever their parents asked about their day, Oliver always had a snide comment.

Whore

Traitor

Words and thoughts that he never outright said, but were always hidden beneath the surface. Implications that she could not be trusted, that they were no longer family. Things that not only cut deep but clearly shook their parents. After one particularly difficult night, where Oliver simply refused to eat dinner with the family, their father had had enough.

"Kaitlyn, what is going on between you two?" her father demanded. On previous occasions, they would ask leading questions to try and scour the truth. The straightforward approach was a new strategy. "This has been going on long enough. Tell us what happened."

She bit her lip, knowing that there would be no easy excuse that could end his line of questioning.

This is how siblings acted - No... they had always gotten along well and her parents knew it.

We had a disagreement about friends - Technically true but would lead to the question of why friends would be causing such a rift between them. If she didn't answer, they would inevitably ask Oliver and there was no telling how much detail he would possibly give them.

With a sigh, Kaitlyn ran a hand through her raven black hair. There was a fine balance to be struck between being completely honest and oversharing when it came to her parents, but it was time to speak. They deserved to know the truth.

"I've been... seeing someone," she began. While her parents did not know about the bullying, there was no way to tell how they would take that bombshell on top of her new love life. "Ollie doesn't like the guy I've been dating. We argued about it, and we both said some hurtful things."

"You've been dating? Who is it?" her mother asked eagerly; eyes going wide with glee. While Kaitlyn had dated in the past, it was not a fact she often discussed with her parents.

"Margaret, please..." her father replied, rubbing his eyes exasperatedly. "Let her finish. Katie, why does Ollie not like this boy? It's not like the two of you to fight over something like this."

"It's... not my place to say," she replied, after taking a deep breath. "But I knew they didn't get along but still went for it."

"Well whatever the reason is, your brother needs to respect your decisions. You're both adults, and you can't let a boy come between you two," her mother said, reaching out to gingerly squeeze Kaitlyn's arm. For the first time, she realized simply how much pressure she had been under. Keeping the secret of her illicit relationship, the weight of school, protecting her brother, and the guilt she felt. Her mother's words provided a level of comfort that Kaitlyn hadn't known she needed.

That sense of burden that had been welling up within herself turned into something else; determination. She had known Oliver could have discovered their relationship at any time, but it didn't need to ruin their relationship. Or, at the very least, she wouldn't let their relationship be ruined without a fight.

"You're right Mom... I'll talk to him," Kaitlyn said, standing from the table with a steely determination in her eyes. "I'm hoping it won't be too late but... we have to be there for each other. All I can do is give him my side of things and if he can't forgive me, well, we'll cross that bridge."

"That's my girl," her mother said, before nodding towards Kaitlyn's father. "Regardless of the circumstances, we'll love and support you. Isn't that right Dave?"

"Of course. Go on, we'll tidy up here," he replied, before giving a teasing smirk at his daughter. "But you better bring this boy home to meet us. I need to make sure he's good enough for my little girl, even if you are grown up."

With an exasperated groan, Kaitlyn rolled her eyes, smiled at her parents, and turned to leave the room. The hardest part was about to come, but she knew that once they spoke, that would be the end. One way or another.

The walk up to Oliver's room, while short, felt as though it took an eternity. With each step, Kaitlyn felt as though her courage would wane and finally fail her. Her parents' words of encouragement steeled her to the top of the staircase, at which point the thought of Jesse soothed her nerves. His smile, his confidence seemingly infected her in her moment of need. Though her stomach remained in knots as she knocked gently on her brother's door before stepping in. Deep down, Kaitlyn knew she could make her brother see reason.

"What do you want? Want to see me angry so you and your boyfriend can fucking laugh about it together?" Oliver spat, his venomous tone chilling her. He was laid out on his bed, a physics textbook in his lap; as if pretending to study would somehow shield him from her betrayal.

"Please, Ollie, can you just let me explain myself? Two minutes, and at the end you can call me whatever you want, say whatever you want and I'll take it," she replied, almost pleadingly.

"You have one," he grunted after a moment, not looking up from the textbook.

Swallowing the lump that began to form within her throat, Kaitlyn nodded and began to speak. She explained everything to Oliver, how things had started between her and Jesse, how this was the reason that Jesse and his friends had left Oliver alone. She did not go into specifics, as Oliver did not need to and certainly would not want to hear about the various ways she had kept her end of the arrangement.. Even while looking at Oliver laying on his bed, she remembered how Jesse had fucked here right there...

Quickly shaking the thoughts out of her head, Kaitlyn continued. Her retelling of the events ended with her reiterating that she had agreed to the offer and that none of his friends knew. But most importantly, Jesse had expressed his change of heart and how even as their arrangement had come to its end, he would be safe. Oliver had remained silent for a moment, seemingly taking in the whole explanation and mulling over his response. With his face still contorted into anger, he finally spoke.

"...Do you really expect me to believe that he changed? For you, or anyone else?" Oliver asked, letting out a short, sarcastic laugh. "You can't be that fucking naive."

"I know it's hard to believe-" Kaitlyn began before Oliver snapped the book shut and turned to face her.

"It's not that it's hard to believe, it's not true. He's a fucking manipulative piece of shit. He tormented me for years and you think fucking you a few times will change how he acts?" Oliver all but spat back at her. Kaitlyn felt her jaw tightening. There was no point getting angry, all she could do was explain herself and if Oliver could not accept it now, she would try again when he cooled off more.

"I thought so too. But I've heard him speak to his friends, how he's spoken about us both since this all started. I'm telling you he's changed. I know you may not believe me... you may never believe me again, but he's sorry for what he did. Even when you punched him in the library, he could have easily hit you back. Think about it, would the Jesse you knew have taken that?"

"Maybe he was worried his personal fleshlight would stop talking to him if he did?" he retorted, tilting his head almost as if challenging her to prove him wrong. The comment stung, but Kaitlyn simply sighed and held her hands up in surrender.

"All I want to do is tell you the truth. I've been keeping it from you for so long because I thought I'd be protecting you, but I need to accept the fact we're both grown ups. I made my decision, knowing full well you wouldn't support it. I want your forgiveness, and if you told me right now to never speak to Jesse again, I would respect your wishes." she said, feeling that knot growing larger in her stomach. Her words were sincere, and if Oliver asked her to she could cut off all ties with Jesse. As much as she hated the thought. What future could she have with him, if she sacrificed the relationship of the person she cared for most in the world?

Oliver hesitated for a moment, the look on his face as if he were about to snap back with yet another cutting barb. But as his face shifted into something more neutral, the tension remained ever present.

"Then I want you to stop talking to him. Never see that piece of shit again," he said, his voice becoming calm for the first time when speaking to her since their first argument over her mystery boyfriend. The answer was exactly what Kaitlyn had expected, but also what she had feared most. It took every ounce of restraint to not let the disappointment show on her face, and after swallowing the lump that had formed in her throat, she nodded slowly.

"If that's what you really want then I'll respect it," Kaitlyn replied softly, turning away from her brother, praying that she could hold in her grief. Stepping towards the door, Kaitlyn stopped, hand on the doorknob, unable to stop herself from speaking. "I just want you to know... even after everything that happened, Jesse didn't tell anyone who was with him in the library. He almost got expelled because he wouldn't tell the Dean who I was. He may treat everyone else terribly, especially you, but he cares about me. It was something that you two had in common."

Before Oliver could reply Kaitlyn left the room, quietly closing the door behind her. She was unsure if her words would have any impact on her vengeful brother, but it no longer mattered. He had made his wishes clear, and she would keep her word.

----

Over the next two weeks, things slowly began to mend between the twins. After three days, Oliver would acknowledge Kaitlyn again. After a week, they would have actual conversations. By the end of the second week, those conversations even became pleasant. But staying true to her word, Kaitlyn had avoided Jesse, ignored his text messages, and done everything in her power to avoid him on campus. It was for the best after all; she had reunited with her brother and the guilt she felt in keeping the relationship a secret had finally been lifted. Unsurprising to Kaitlyn, Jesse had also continued to leave Oliver alone, and not even his friends had bothered her brother.

It was Friday morning, as Kaitlyn was gathering her books for her lectures when she heard a timid knock on her door. Zipping up her backpack, Kaitlyn slung the bag over her shoulder and opened the door, where Oliver was waiting. The pair had began to go to and from school together once again, so she thought nothing of his morning visit until she noticed his nervousness.

"Morning Ollie, what's wrong?" she asked, as the pair began making their way downstairs, side by side.

"Morning Katie..." he replied, scratching his head awkwardly as they walked. "I know we've kind of been avoiding the, you know, fight, but I wanted to talk to you about something."

Kaitlyn raised her eyebrow questioningly as they grabbed their jackets and stepped out into the cool March air, a small shiver racing down her spine. It was not the conversation she had expected, and frankly, not one she was sure she wanted to have. The rift had begun to heal between them, and while she had remained true to her word, Kaitlyn harbored a yearning for Jesse still. A hole in her heart had begun to form, her thoughts in the loneliness of the night running wild with memories of him. But those memories were all she could have now.

"Oh? What about?" she asked.

"Well, I didn't want to say anything because things had been going well between us. But... Jesse's friends stopped me on campus last week-" he began, before Kaitlyn's head snapped towards her brother, cutting him off mid-sentence.

"What? Were they hassling you again?" she asked angrily, her nostrils flaring. Oliver gave a small shrug, his face turning beet red.

"N-no... well, yes but before they could really say or do anything Jesse stepped in," he replied sheepishly, the words coming out almost as a mumble. "He told them off, and they asked him why he was defending someone like me. But that's not the point, after the guys left, I tried to leave but Jesse stopped me. He apparently wanted to talk about everything that had happened."

"Oh God... what did he say?" she groaned, feeling as though her skin were set aflame.

"He asked about you, and he apologized for how he treated me. Told me that he'd do what he could to keep the other guys off my back," he said, turning to look ahead once more as they continued to walk. "It was all the same stuff you said to me before, that he'd changed, that he cared about you, yadda yadda. But, there was something in the way he said it. The way he looked, as if he actually felt guilty. I don't know, I actually believed him."

The words had felt like a bolt of lightning struck her. Every nerve in her body seemed to flare up at once, her mind running wild. Thoughts of Jesse's smile, his dark brown eyes, the sincerity that she had begun to see behind them...

"Well, that's good... I'm glad he apologized," Kaitlyn said, attempting to keep her tone steady and neutral, but quickly failing. "But why are you telling me this?"

"I wanted to say I was wrong. Not about him. Or, I guess, not about who he was. If I hadn't heard the words from him myself, I'd never have believed it. But if someone as awful as Jesse Campbell can see how great you are and put you above himself, maybe he really has changed." Oliver sighed, before stopping in his tracks. Kaitlyn took another few steps before realizing her brother was no longer by her side, and she stopped to face him.
