Adam had landed in Kentucky for the final part of his vacation. As he stood at the top of Bourbon Street he surveyed the immediate scene around him. The Old Kentuckian Bar was to his right and standing next door were The Village Apartments where he had a room reserved. Across the street to his left was Moon's Book Emporium. Straight ahead in the distance at the top of the hill was Brewster's Brewery, famous for its Kentucky Kicker beer.
Adam's first port of call was the Emporium to collect the key to his room. As he approached the store he noticed the window display was full of Kinky Kentucky, the latest novel by Charles Bukowski.
Once inside he searched for Miss Moon who held the key for his room. There in front of him sitting behind the counter he spotted a young lady. She was slightly obscured by the cash register and her head was buried in a copy of Kinky Kentucky.
Adam strode up to the counter. 'Hello, I'm looking for Miss Moon.' As the young lady glanced up Adam could see her name badge had Evelyn Moon written on it. Miss Moon was about five foot six inches tall, with short light brown hair, green eyes and her plain white tshirt was tightly stretched over her breasts.
'Ah you must be Adam, welcome to Kentucky.' With that she disappeared into a room behind the counter. After several minutes she returned clutching a bronze key. 'You're in room thirteen on the top floor, any problems, come find me here.' Adam took the key from Miss Moon and turned to head over to his room. As Adam left the store and made his way over to The Village Apartments his thoughts were filled with this sexy young lady he had just met.
Evelyn, now stood in the Emporium doorway had watched Adam until his six foot frame had disappeared from view. She had noticed his short jet black hair, green eyes and cheeky smile as she handed him the key. Turning to go back inside she glanced down and noticed her nipples were protruding through her bra and tshirt.
Adam awoke around 8 am, it was August 20th 2017, a gloriously sunny morning. After a quick breakfast he set off to catch the bus to Churchill Downs from the stop right outside The Apartments. As he waited, he looked to see if he could see Miss Moon in the Emporium, but before he could spot her the bus pulled up and he was on his way.
Adam arrived at Churchill Downs just before 11am. He quickly signed up for a tour of the stadium and before long it was lunchtime. At the trackside cafΓ© Adam purchased a cheese sandwich, and a Pepsi. It was 2pm as Adam made his way over to the museum. Soon 2pm became 4pm and Adam had thoughts of returning back to Bourbon Street.
As he was in the gift shop hunting for a last minute souvenir, he noticed a familiar item from England. There in a white plastic wrapper with funky red and blue letters spelling out the name on the side was a Curlywurly. As Adam picked one up he thought about the chewy caramel covered in milk chocolate, shaped in a lattice pattern inside the wrapper.
As Adam waited in line to pay for the Curlywurly and a cowboy hat he noticed posters advertising the solar eclipse that was due to happen tomorrow. Dawson springs was highlighted as one of the best viewing places..
It was 6pm and Adam was back at Bourbon Street and famished. He stopped off at the Old Kentuckian, ordered steak, chips, mushrooms and a Pepsi. As he was tucking in a crazy thought came over him. Having quickly finished his meal Adam headed over to the Book Emporium.
Impulsively Adam pressed the buzzer for the upstairs apartment. From inside the apartment Evelyn could see Adam and her heart skipped a beat. Without hesitating she freed the main door to allow Adam to enter the building, telling him to climb up to the top of the stairs.
As Adam reached the top of the stairs, Miss Moon was waiting for him in the open doorway. Now dressed in a green strappy top that rested on the top of her cropped denim shorts she enquired 'Adam is there something wrong?' 'No everything is fine, I just have a crazy idea to put to you.'
As they both sat on the couch Adam began 'I was at Churchill Downs and saw posters for the solar eclipse.' 'I am thinking of going to Dawson Springs tomorrow to watch it from the forest.' 'Please say you'll come with me?'
Evelyn was thrilled by Adam's idea and after chewing it over for a few moments responded. 'I have a counter proposition.' 'If we get through the rest of this evening without killing each other, the answer is yes.' 'Oh and you have to start calling me Eve. 'Deal,' came Adam's instant reply.
