Daisy stands at the far end of a very remote ranch, many different kinds of livestock milling about in the fields by a large red barn. She sighs as she walks up the dirt road in her black buckled boots, jeans getting covered in the dried dirt as she holds a strange card against her chest. Her dark red flannel bunching up against her hand as she tries to hide her fear. All the card had on it was an address, the address of this middle of the knowhere farm. Normally she would ignore something strange like that if it wasn't for the very fancy chocolates that came with it, branded with the 'Fresh Feedin Farms' logo. The nights of staring at their products at the forefront of her mind.
As she approaches the front of the farm, Daisy is met with a growing number of farm hands. All dressed in distinctive cow print overalls, most covered in mud from long days of work, while the outfits of more obviously frail employees seemed to be uniformly pristine.
Daisy watches the workers cautiously, eyeing them as she makes her way up to one of the smaller men. "Um hello, I received this card and was wondering what was up. They came with some chocolates and I guess that I received them by mistake, I got them in my car if I could return them." She says as she points back to her beat down truck, the front bumper is missing and the paint is all chipped.
"Oh you were one of the sweepstakes winners! Or at least someone who signed up under your name was." The farmhand has short black hair that jets out in every direction, as well as wide ocean blue eyes. His smaller size and softer voice emphasized his timid nature. "If you'd like, I can take you to my boss. You don't need to return anything at all though, I promise."
"Yes please, I'd like to know how exactly I got signed up for this sweepstakes." Daisy sighs as she follows the boy inside, looking around the barn curiously. "I didn't actually try the chocolates, I was too scared of why they were just at my house. I'm assuming they are good though."
"Oh well they are delicious! If you want you should probably go grab the box from the car, they're like 300$ and could definitely melt in with the current weather." The boy looks back at the car as he pushes open a side door to the closed barn. The sounds of gentle moos hitting Daisy's ears the moment they get to the door.
"Oh yeah, I'll do that." Daisy says before quickly running back to her truck and grabbing the chocolates out of the passenger side seat. She then runs back over, holding the chocolates as if they're made out of sugar glass. "I hope your boss doesn't mind that I hold these, I don't really have anything else to do with them. I did know their price which is why I wanted to return them."
"I'm not sure I've gotten your name yet, but I promise she won't mind. They're expensive, not irreplaceable, the fact that you came all the way out here to return something you didn't need to will impress her I believe." The boy laughs lightly, pushing the door open to reveal a starkly clean interior. The only spots of dirt are a single trail over to what must obviously be a washroom.
With black and white tiling lining the entryway. A few seats littered about, and posters of different chocolates lining the walls. "If you wouldn't mind leaving your boots here, we try to keep the mess out of the interior of the facility. We do work with and produce food here after all."
"Oh of course, and the name is Daisy." Daisy nods as she slowly takes her shoes off, setting them down next to the door. "I guess I'm glad I might be impressing your boss." She pauses for a moment, before smacking her forehead and turning to the boy. "Actually do you mind if I got your name too, maybe even put a good word in for you with her. You have been very nice and helpful so far." Daisy smiles as they walk through the pristine interior, looking at each of the posters intently.
"My name is Manny, but my friends call me Mini." Mini giggles lightly as he starts to lead the way through the interior. Guiding Daisy down the winding hallways of the factory, that muffled mooing growing in volume over time. "You can call me either, whatever makes you comfortable."
"So I'm guessing the mooing is cows. I thought yall would keep them in a separate place if you want this one so pristine." Daisy chuckles as they walk through the hall, following close behind Mini. "Mini is a very interesting nickname, how did you get it?"
"Well my older sister runs this place, and she's... well she makes me seem Mini in comparison." Mini blushes slightly as his body wiggles slightly from the embarrassment, as he leads Daisy past a jet black door. "I actually ended up really liking the nickname, so it stuck over the years."
"I see, well I guess I'll be meeting your sister soon." Daisy says as they walk past the black door, pointing to it as she stops briefly."Hey what was that door for? It's the only door that looks any different, I'm guessing it's for employees only."
"It's where the cows we keep in this facility hang out, you're right that we don't keep many here due to the standards for cleaning. Which is why we have a specially marked door that requires an employee key to open." Mini smiles and nods his head to the side as they reach a door with the name Maggie on the front. "Here we are, 'Mega' Maggie, my sister, should be in there."
"I see, well thank you for answering my questions. It's been lovely meeting you Mini." Daisy smiles as Mini walks away, waving as they round the corner. After a moment she knocks on the door, slowly cracking it open. "Hello... I'm not sure if you heard but I'm Daisy, I was hoping to talk with Maggie about the sweepstakes."
Inside an absolutely massive woman, nearly seven feet tall with more muscle than anything else and bright copper hair sits behind a hand carved dark oak desk. "Oh sure come in darlin, ah didn't expect ta see ya in person, but it's a pleasure nonetheless. Come on in and sit down." She leans back in her chair, looking around her room at different pictures of her and Mini working on the farm over the years. The boy started off taller, before she quickly sprung up in height and build, dwarfing the boy.
Daisy immediately starts to blush, meekly walking in and sitting down across from Maggie. "O-oh um... it's a pleasure to meet you too. I was hoping you could tell me who signed me up for the sweepstakes, and if I could give them these chocolates. I'm not exactly... the most well off person and don't really deserve these." She says as she places the box on Maggie's desk, starting to look at the many pictures to avoid eye contact.
"Well everyone deserves a box of chocolates darlin, if ya got it on accident then it's still yours." Maggie laughs lightly and starts to type on her keyboard, monitor always out of view from Daisy. "Ah here we go, Daisy... ahhhhh I see, ya had a cart open and so did another Daisy who likely signed up for our sweepstakes without a name. So we used your unbought cart ta send ya what ya'd been lookin at, it's a little surprise gift promotion for our customers. Ah don't really get it, Mini handles all the digital stuff."
"Oh..." Daisy says, looking down at the box of chocolates. "I... I really never thought I would be able to afford these... but I did like looking at them. I guess I can take them, if you guys don't do returns and all." She murmurs as she stands up, face still bright red as she avoids looking at the casually domineering woman. "Mimi was very nice, he actually brought me back here and we chatted a little."
"Sure why dontcha stay here and try these with me, ah'll send ya off with a bonus box after we're done, but the in person reactions could really help with our quality!" Maggie happily slaps the desk, causing a massive thunk of a clap from the impact, before leaning up against it and grinning down at Daisy. "After all everyone deserves to be comfortable and have somethin good ta eat!"
