Ava sat next to me in our English literature lecture. Her dyed black hair only just reaching her shoulders, with a cute fringe just above her dark eyes. On her face she wore thick deep purple rimmed glasses on her small button nose and she had eyeliner on which had pretty little wings on either side of her eyes. She bit at her lip, covered in black lipstick as she focused on the lecture. She wore a wirey black choker on her neck, below that was a loose fitting Fall Out Boy t-shirt which was tucked into her black and grey plaid skirt. Under that on her thick thighs and legs she wore tight, black fishnets and black converse on her feet. I could not help but steal glances at her whenever we were in our lecture together, she was exactly my type but far too cute for me, I thought.
We were both first year English students, and my appearance was much more plain. I had messy light brown hair and eyes of the same colour, I wore a red and black plaid shirt over a grey t-shirt which was my size, but loose on my rather slim form and faded blue jeans. I was bored out of my mind as our lecturer repeated himself for the 3rd time, but I didn't want it to end because I got to see Ava. I swore to myself one day I'd work the nerve to ask her on a date.
I was always the pretty shy type myself. But I knew what my type was, cute emo girls, and boys. Back in my final year of 6th form I had dated an emo guy who was 20, tall, and about the same build as me. Despite all that it didn't work out between us, mostly because I was going away for university. But one door closed is another door opened, one of my old teachers used to say to me as I stood indecisive at what A levels to do.
When the lecture ended, Ava turned to me, I thought it was just going to be some small talk, but at least that put my foot in the door. What she said instead had me struggling to respond. "Hey Tom, did you understand that last part." I thought she was joking at first but her tone told me otherwise.
"Yeah, I think I got it down." I answered, nodding quickly. Idiot, I thought to myself.
"Oh good," Ava smiled. "Do you want to come to mine and we can go over it together? I'd owe you one."
I shook the lewd thoughts away as quickly as they entered my 18 year old mind. "Sure thing." I responded with a nervous smile.
"Thank you so much." She put a hand on my arm and stood up from her chair. "Come on then, Tom." She smiled, and we made our way to her student house.
Her house was similar to my own student accommodations, just the one bathroom, a small living space, and 3 bedrooms. She quickly lead me upstairs to her bedroom. I had fantasized of seeing it at some point, but due to my nerves, not this soon. It was a rather large room, the walls decorated with band posters like Slipknot, Set it off, and a whole bunch of other cool bands. She had a double bed with red sheets, and on the far side from the door, a desk with a sticker covered laptop on it. The curtains were closed, not letting much sunlight in, however the room was lit with fairy lights and dim lamps which gave the room a reddish purple hue.
We sat on the floor space and I took my notes from our lecture out of my back. As I was laying them on the floor she said. "You don't mind if I get a bit more comfortable, Tom?" I nodded and when I looked up I saw she was taking off her Fall Out Boy t-shirt. Underneath was a black vest top which had a deep v-neck, showing off a lot of cleavage. My eyes went wide for the splittest second before I tried to compose myself. Even as I looked down at the drab notebook in front of me my heart raced and I could feel my duck growing into a semi. It took every fibre of my being not to blush.
In both the reason I was here with Ava, and to distract myself, I started going over the notes with her. She nodded and hummed periodically, her brown eyes never leaving me behind her glasses. She was so cute when she was paying attention to me, more so than normal. I was going over the last part with her when she interrupted me. "I see you have your studies nicely in order." She commented with a giggle.
I looked up at her and replied with a smile. "Thank you, I hope this has helped."
"Can I be honest with you?" Ava asked. I nodded and she continued. "I understood everything back at the lecture." She broke eye contact with me, her tone suggested she felt bad.
"But-" I started but was cut off.
"I just used that as an excuse to be alone with you, Tom." She looked back up at me anxiously.
