"Come on, Harold, how tough can it be? We don't need to pay a Philadelphia lawyer to do this. We can just fill it out ourselves. We're reasonable people, right? And deeply in love. You want to marry me, and I want to marry you. Everything else is just details. Let's give it a try."
"Yes dear."
"Ok! We're off to a good start! Let's keep this thing going..."
"Finances. I've heard it said finances can sometimes be a problem in a marriage. So let's agree to join everything together, your bank account & my credit cards. And then what say you be in charge of income, and I'll be in charge of spending. Seem reasonable?"
"Yes dear."
"Outstanding, Harold. No wonder I fell in love with you -- you're sooo sensible. Ok let's keep going..."
"Children. I guess in this area, since the wife is the one who'll have to bear them, this is an area that should be pretty much left up to me, right?"
"Yes dear."
"Easy! Wow. These are like a couple of the most difficult areas for marital conflict, and we've solved them already! I love you, my sweet sweet man!"
"I love you, too, dear."
"Parents Interference. Now we already know how that can be, don't we, Harold? Your mother is as overprotective as if you were 5 years old and had a girlfriend in kindergarten. So clearly that has to stop. She nursed you up through adolescence, and then monitored your teen 'activities', but there needs to be a line drawn now. She cannot be coming & going in our house, feeding, dressing & undressing you, brushing your teeth & putting you through your bedtime regimen at night. I will be taking over those duties. Nor can she be calling your father to come running over anytime to give you a manly punishing. I will take care of that -- now, what's his phone #? Ok good. And you can be sure I'll insist that he do it every bit as well as when she guides him. And if he doesn't, then he'll answer to me now -- not her! Only thing is, if I'm to take over this duty, then you are the one who needs to break this news to them. Tonight at your bedtime should be soon enough, don't you think, Harold?"
"Oh wow. I dunno, Sweetie. I can't imagine Mommy letting you boss my father around like that. But yes dear, I'll explain it to them tonight at my bedtime. And take their wrath, if it comes to that."
