A Rose Without Thorns
Rose had just showered and was going to dress when she heard a car pull in. Looking out of her window she saw it was one of her Pop's friends, who must be coming to pick him up, as it was Saturday, so it was not work related. She immediately had an idea for some fun. She wrapped a medium sized towel around herself, well, mostly around at least. Then she put the clothes she had retrieved from the laundry room earlier back in the basket and carried it downstairs quickly. On the way, she saw her loyal pup, Scrappy and gave his head a rub, so of course he followed her. She made it to the laundry room without being seen and waited til she heard the door, occasionally petting Scrappy. When she heard the front door o[en and voices upstairs she picked up the basket. Saying "remember your new trick, boy!" she carried the laundry basket up to see her Pop standing in the front hall, talking to his friend, a reasonably nice looking man named Sam Wethers. Rose said "Look, Scrappy, we have company! Hello, Mr. Wethers, how are you today?"
Sam looked past her Pop, saw Rose and broke into a smile, as he liked the young woman, and her dog as well. "Hi there Rose. How are you and Scrappy today? I am doing well myself, just stopping opt pick up Jake here, so we can go fishing."
Rose smiled, saying "Fine thank you. And Scrappy has a brand new trick!"
Her Pop smiled "Well, Rosie, maybe you can show Sam Scrappy's new trick before we go."
Rose thought for a moment, and smiled, saying "I would love to, Pop, if you both have enough time." Both men assured her they had plenty pf time for her and Scrappy, and her Pop patted her shoulder. Rose smiled once again and said "Scrappy, dance for the nice man!" Her dog rose onto his rear legs and danced, as if he was a teenager at a dance party. Rose praised him "That's great, Scrappy, the girl dogs will all love you for sure!" and Sam Wethers clapped, saying it was a very good trick, and she was a smart young lady. At that, Scrappy yipped, half turned and grabbed her towel by the bottom corner and ran off up the stairs carrying it! Her Pop just smiled, he was quite used to his daughter's antics, even though she thought he was unaware, he knew she liked to display herself, and was glad that she was at least doing it safely, as far as he knew. Meanwhile Rose, in apparent consternation dropped the basket of clothes, which was more or less covering her and began to apologize for her "bad" dog. She even had a knack for turning pink, so it looked as if she were blushing and she did that now. "I am so sorry, Mr. Wethers. You must thin k I am just an awful person!" And she manged pot turn a medium shade of pink as she said it.
