Early April
Year 3 of Us
Monday
I got up much earlier than either Lacey or Cathy, but I did give each of them a kiss as I climbed out of bed.
Lacey murmured something and then one eye opened. "What are you doing?"
"I'm going to deal with the kids -- I heard a few of their waking up sounds." I smiled at her.
"Are you sure?" Her voice was still sleepy.
"Yes." I leaned forward and gave her a kiss as she turned over.
Lacey wrapped her hand behind my neck and gave me a deep kiss. Once she broke the kiss, she looked into my eyes and smiled. "Don't forget Kitty-cat."
Cathy made little noises in her sleep as I kissed her cheek. She smiled a bit, but she didn't wake. I smiled at Lacey, then finished getting out of bed.
When I walked into the twins' room, both dogs stood up, tails wagging. As I bent down to pet them, I heard, "Da-da!"
Looking up, I saw Sam holding on to the railing of her crib. "Good morning, littlest princess," I said softly before Duncan stood up in his crib. "Good morning, buddy!"
He smiled before jumping up and down a few times. I reached over to him and patted his bottom. "Ah ha! You need a new diaper. How about you, littlest princess?"
Sam smiled at me as I reached over and checked her, too. Yep, she needed a new one, too. It didn't take long, and once they were clean, I lifted them up. I gave each of them a kiss. "Shall we go wake up Mommy and Mommy Cathy?"
They both gurgled and laughed, and then the dogs got excited, too. I walked into the bedroom, and I smiled when I saw them in each other's arms. Cathy rolled over and smiled at us as Lacey caressed her shoulder. "Did we interrupt?"
"No," Lacey laughed. "We heard you coming down the hall..."
"We heard the dogs, you mean," Cathy added, laughing.
"Okay, yeah, we heard Sherlock dancing around and knew that you were on your way." Lacey smiled at me, and I had to smile in response.
"I love your 'sunrise smile', Beloved."
"My 'sunrise smile'?" Lacey sat up and looked at me, and so did Cathy.
I smiled and set the twins onto the bed. They both clambered across the bed. Duncan got into Lacey's arms and Sam crawled over to Cathy. They both held the twins close while looking at me.
I grinned and scratched my neck as Lacey asked, "The smile, love?"
"Okay. I call it the sunrise smile because when you give to me, my life is warm and bright. My soul feels the glow and I feel like I can do anything. I feel... loved. And safe. I never want to lose those feelings."
I looked at Lacey's face and sat on the bed. My hand cupped her chin past Duncan's head. "Now it's your turn to not cry, Beloved." I could see Lacey's eyes shining, and then Duncan patted her face by reaching past my hand.
"Ma-ma," he said sternly.
"What, my little love?" Lacey looked down on him.
"Love ma-ma."
With a little cry, Lacey pulled him closer and kissed him several times. When she looked up at me, there were still some tears in her eyes, but they were tears of joy this time.
I smiled at her and got a smile in return. "He's saved me some consoling efforts right now."
"You!" Lacey said with an even bigger smile. "I thought you liked consoling me?"
"I do, but we have a day to begin."
"Well, okay," then she hit me with that 'sunrise smile' again and I melted a little inside. Again.
After all the morning things, we got down to our chores -- Lacey and Cathy took care of the kids while planning on getting her moved out here, while I searched for that controllable cat tail. I found at least four different possibilities, and bookmarked them for later examination by the two ladies. I watched as Lacey cuddled Sam while Duncan crawled into Cathy's lap as she started reading.
I made a call to the contractor, who said that she could be out the following week to look at enclosing the hot tub. When I put my phone away, Lacey looked over at me with a question on her face. "Vicki says she'll be out next Thursday to take a look at the hot tub."
Lacey smiled, "Oh! You remembered!"
"What did he remember, Lacey?" Cathy looked at her.
"When we were at the inn, I was really enjoying the hot tub in the bathroom of our suite. He asked if I'd like to have ours enclosed, and when I said 'yes,' he said he'd look into it." Lacey grinned at me. "I'm surprised she's going to be out here so soon."
"It's a quiet time of year for contractors, my princess."
"Ah," Lacey said as she nodded. "Speaking of quiet time -- she's out."
"So is he," Cathy said.
"What time is it?" Lacey looked over her shoulder at me. "Check for me, please."
"Damn, it's not even noon yet and they've crashed?" I was surprised.
"Yeah. We'll let them sleep a little bit, then we'll wake them for lunch."
"Beyond the hot tub stuff, did you find anything about getting me a cat's tail?" Cathy looked at me curiously.
"I found four different possibilities, but let's hold off on looking at them until we get these two down for their real naps later on." Cathy nodded, and so did Lacey. "Have you figured out the move, yet?"
"Yeah. She's got a two-room apartment. Maybe if you got together with Bert and Travis, and their trucks, we could get everything here in one day." Lacey smiled at me. "You go over there with her, tomorrow maybe, and see what you think -- you know how much storage space we have downstairs."
I caressed Lacey's thigh, being careful not to disturb Sam. "Are you trying to give Cathy and me more alone time?"
Lacey smiled. "Yes, I am, as a matter of fact. Does that bother you, Cathy?"
She shook her head. "I like the sound of it. Lacey, will you be able to get stuff done by yourself?"
"I think I'll be able to get scripts done, figure out what I need to have on hand, and maybe call Lance, if he'll be needed."
"Lance?" Cathy looked a little confused. "Who's he?"
"Her current costar, if needed." I laughed. "You'll have to tell her about the evening we started trying to get you pregnant."
"No," Lacey said, a little archly. "*You* tell her. Tomorrow would be a great time to do so."
"Do you think so?"
Lacey smiled at me. "Yes, love, I do think so."
Sam started to move around in Lacey's arms, then she lifted her head. She looked at me, blinking her eyes sleepily. "Hi, there, sleepy littlest princess."
She smiled at me and reached her arms towards me. When she moved some more, Lacey patted her back. "Do you want Daddy?" Sam tried to sit up, so Lacey helped her and then she crawled across the couch to me.
I set my laptop on the coffee table before she reached me, and I took her into my arms. "So, my littlest princess, do you want to play?" She smiled at me. "Okay, Sam, let's go play."
I sat her down and she took my hand as I stood up. I had to hunch over, but she led me over to the toy area. Once we were there, I turned around to see that both Lacey and Cathy had huge smiles on their faces. Cathy raised her free hand, with her pinkie sticking up and she twirled it a bit.
"What's that all about?" I asked, and Cathy just grinned at me, and Lacey laughed.
"Well?"
She smiles at me. "Your daughter has you wrapped around her little finger."
Lacey giggled. "Well, she does, Wyatt."
"You think so?"
"Yes," I looked at Lacey again, and her smile was full of love. I had to smile back as Sam pulled out her little people toys. I sat on the floor next to Sam, and I heard Duncan say something to Cathy.
"Daddy and Sam are over there, boyfriend," she said to him, "with the toys."
I saw Duncan get down from the couch, with some help from Cathy, then he toddled his way over to us. He pointed at Sam, and she handed him a firefighter and a cowboy figure. I sat there with them, playing some and talking to both of them, just saying simple things when Duncan looked up at me and smiled. "Daddy silly!" I leaned back and looked at him, with a smile on my face, too.
"He sure is silly, Duncan!" Lacey called from the couch.
"Hey, no comments from the peanut gallery!" Lacey and Cathy started to giggle, which set off the twins, so I laughed, too. After more playtime, Duncan got up, put his toy people back in the bin and headed for the kitchen.
"Lacey!"
She looked up and saw what Duncan was doing, so she casually stood and somehow still caught him before he made it to his destination. Lacey swooped him up and he started to giggle as she made noises at him. "And what do you want?"
Sam stood up as Duncan pointed at his chair at the table, and she headed that way, too, dropping her toy people.
"Cathy! Interception duty!" Cathy made the same kind of moves Lacey had in getting to Duncan, but Sam saw her and tried to run while laughing. Cathy was faster and she grabbed Sam up into her arms, as I finally made it to my feet. "Man, they're fast."
Cathy walked back over to me holding Sam in her left arm. Cathy looked into my face. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Just slowing down more and more."
"Don't you say anything about getting old, my cowboy!" Lacey called from the kitchen, where she had put Duncan into his chair.
"Cathy, did I say I was getting old?"
