Late March

Year 3 of Us

Sunday

I felt the bed move as Lacey slipped off of it. "And where do you think you're going?"

She grinned at me. "Bathroom, you dirty old man."

"Dirty old man?"

"Yes. You were humping my ass a little while ago."

"Did you enjoy it?"

"Yes, but I really have to pee."

I laughed as she hurried into the bathroom. I got up and stood by the door. "Don't flush, I have to go, too." All this time together, and she still didn't like me being in the bathroom while she was on the toilet.

"Okay, your turn. I'm going to get dressed so we can go get breakfast."

"Are we hiking this morning?"

Lacey shook her head. "I want to have a leisurely day with you and just relax. Maybe sit in the hot tub. Talk with our babies later on."

"That sounds like a great plan for our day, my princess."

Lacey's smile did it to me again -- that fluttering in my heart that happened every time she smiled at me. It didn't matter what the situation was, or even the intensity of that smile. Every time. And I did what that smile demanded from me -- I smiled back.

I took the chance to pee, then I brushed my teeth as she joined me at the vanity.

"Take your pills, love."

"Already have. I'm going to get dressed."

She patted my ass as I walked out and giggled. I grinned at her from over my shoulder.

After I got my clothes on, I started to clean up from last night. When she came back in, our clothing had been picked up and placed where it should be.

"You'd make a great maid, love," she said.

"Lots of practice."

"Oh?"

"Forgetting my age?"

"No." There was an edge to her voice.

"Oh, you thought I was picking on you?" I asked with a smile.

"The thought had occurred to me, Wyatt."

I stepped over to where she was sitting, tying her shoes. She looked up at me, and I caressed her shoulder.

"Lacey, you remind me of Scarlett and Gwen. You're very neat, but when you're in a hurry, the clothing will fly."

Again, that smile. I bent over and kissed her cheek. "Ready?"

"Yes." She took my hand after we stood. "Let's go eat."

After a nice, long breakfast, we settled down in the living room. Lacey handed me her brush and comb before she pushed the coffee table away from the couch. She pointed at her hair and asked, "Please?"

"It's always a pleasure, Beloved." I sat on the couch as she got on the floor with her back to me, after taking off her jeans. She started to undo her braids, and I helped her do that. As she pulled them free, I started to run my fingers through her hair. As I lifted her long hair onto my lap, she shook her your head several times.

"I don't know how much good that's going to do, my princess."

"What?"

"Shaking your head to loosen your hair." I ran my fingers through part of it. "Just how long is it, anyway?" She hopped up to her feet to show me. With all her long hair flowing freely down her back, it dropped below the middle of her thighs. I reached forward and touched her right at where the longest part ended. Lacey jumped a little.

"Yikes! Your fingers are cold!"

"Sorry, Baby Girl."

"It's okay. You just surprised me is all."

I leaned forward and softly kissed her butt through her panties. She sat back down, flipping her hair into my lap. "Do you want me to braid it again?"

"Yes, please. I love it when you do it for me." Her voice was soft.

"Until you, I never learned how."

"Really?"

"Yes. No daughters, and Scarlett never taught me. Gwen's hair was never long enough for her to want or need it braided." I said simply.

"Oh. It was interesting teaching you, you know."

I grinned and leaned forward to kiss the top of her head. "Yes, it was. You were incredibly patient with me."

She laughed softly. "You're good with your hands, in many, many ways. Besides, Sam might need you to braid her hair when she gets older."

"There is that."

I started to brush her hair softly. When Lacey leaned back against my thighs, I smiled. I knew what her expression was -- one of complete contentment. I knew that her eyes were closed, and that there was a very faint smile on her face. Her hair felt so luxurious when I ran my hand over it, and she murmured something.

"What's that, beloved?"

"Running your hand over it isn't getting it brushed."

"True, but it feels so wonderful to me!" I touched my chin to her head.

"It feels very nice, love. How long do you think this'll take?"

"You want the slow, sensuous brush and braid, or the quick version?"

"Maybe a little slow, and a little quick? I want to get our soak in before we talk with the babies."

"I think I can do it that way." I spent about twenty minutes brushing her hair, then I spent much more time putting it into braids. Every so often, she sighed -- those were sighs of pleasure because I knew just how much she loved getting pampered like this. I did the right side first, and when I got the left one finished, I patted her neck gently.

She started a bit, and I snickered. She turned enough that she could see me.

"What?"

"Nice little nap?"

A sheepish grin was my answer. "Thank you for this, my love." She took a braid in each hand and flipped them over my shoulders and around my neck. "Do you want payment now?"

"Of course!"

Using her braids, she pulled me forward and leaned into me. Eyes glinting, she kissed my left cheek before moving her lips past my glasses to my forehead. Gently removing my glasses, she softly kissed each of my eyes before she moved back.

"That's only the third or fourth time I've been able to kiss your eyes without you flinching."

"Really?"

"Really. You were so skittish about them when we first got together." Lacey's mouth was right next to my face, so her smile was just inches away. Then her lips puckered, and she kissed my right cheek. She grasped my beard in both hands and carefully pulled me even closer. I could see the tip of her tongue as it slipped between her lips.

I closed my eyes as she gently brushed her tongue over my lips. I was breathing slowly as she pressed in between my lips and then her tongue flickered away as I tried to touch my tongue to it. Her hands moved from my beard to the back of my head as she pressed her mouth lightly to mine. We kissed softly, tongues playing with each other, then she broke away.

"Wow." There was an excited smile on her face until she looked past me. "Damn! The time! We need to grab some lunch before the call!" She got up quickly and started to rush away.

"Lacey! Wait!"

"What?"

I stuck my right hand out. "My glasses, please?"

"Oh, sweetie. I'm sorry!" She reached down to the couch and placed them gently into my hand. "I forgot how you react without knowing where they are. Forgive me?"

"Of course. Did I sound panicked?" I gave her a smile.

"A little." She held her thumb and forefinger about a quarter of an inch apart. I got my glasses on as she caressed my shoulder. "I had forgotten how you react at times."

"React?" I followed her into the bedroom to get my boots. She pulled her jeans on before slipping shoes onto her feet.

"Yes. If you take your glasses off, you know exactly where you put them. Sometimes, I'll take them off your face if you fall asleep. Especially if it's on the couch." She gave me a sweet smile. "Do you know just how adorable you are when you do that? If you have one of the twins with you, my heart gets so full of love for you. I put the glasses on the end table, and you seem to find them pretty easily."

I felt my face getting warm.

Lacey giggled and took my hand. "You're blushing!"

"I've not been called adorable very often."

We ate a quick lunch before heading to the hot tub in our room. I had gotten so used to doing this that a day without a soak seemed unsettled.

As we soaked, I looked at her. "You've spoiled me, beloved."

"Oh? How?"

"This." I waved my hand at the hot tub. "Before we were together, the last time I was in one was right before Scarlett found out that she was pregnant."

Sitting up, Lacey looked into my eyes. "Really?"

"Really. We've talked about this before, Lacey. You've opened my life in some ways, and I'm so very happy that you have!"

Leaning closer, she kissed me gently and sighed. "I'm glad. You've opened *my* life, too, you know."

We held each other for a long time. When her alarm went off, we both smiled at each other. "Let's get ready to talk with our babies!" Lacey was very excited by this, and I found myself getting excited, too. A quick dash through the shower, then I reclined on the couch after getting a drink for each of us.

I had my tablet out and made sure that it was fully charged. We cuddled, with her head resting on the right side of my chest. The video call alert sounded, and I accepted it.

"Hey, guys!" Erica's smile was wide as she looked at us. "You both look rested."

"We are," Lacey replied. "His leg is better, and he's been very, very attentive."

"Like he isn't?"

"No, you're right," Lacey laughed. I snickered before I kissed her hair.

"She's doing pretty good, too, Erica. She had a great birthday."

"Oh, yes, it was wonderful! I'll have to show you what he got for me!" She was excited.

"Not now, Beloved."

Erica looked at us. "That's a new word you're using."

"Yes, it is. I've used 'my princess' with her for a long time now, starting back when we chatted on-line." Lacey nodded. "Lacey was wondering what I had called either Scarlett or Gwen, and it was the usual things, including ones I use on her. It struck me, that 'Beloved' was unique to her, and very fitting."

Erica nodded. "Yeah, I think it does fit her."

We heard giggling and laughter coming from one side of Erica. I could actually feel Lacey's smile through my shirt as Travis handed Sam to Erica, and then he sat down with Duncan in his lap.

"Oh, my babies! How are my babies?" Lacey asked.

"Ma-ma?" Samantha's eyes tracked to the screen, and she let out a little yell. Duncan turned from Erica to the screen, and he stuck his arms out towards the tablet at Erica's.

"Hi, Samantha! How's my girl? Duncan, are you being good for Erica and Travis?"

Both of our children smiled and waved at Lacey.

"Lacey, move away from the screen a bit," suggested Erica. When she did, both of the babies' eyes got big. "Da-da! Ma-ma!" they said, almost in unison.

"Hi, you two!" I smiled at them. "Are you having fun?"

"Puppies here!"

"I know, Sam. Do you like having Sherlock and LB with you?"

"Puppies fun!" Duncan added.

This conversation went on for quite some time, with Erica and Travis trying their best to hold them still, and both of us laughing and giggling at the whole scene in their house. I don't know how long it took, but I could see that Sam's eyes were getting droopy. I whispered to Lacey, "I think they're getting tired."

She sat up a bit and looked closer at the screen, before turning to me slightly. "You're right. Duncan's almost asleep right now."

"Erica, I think it's time that they take a nap."

Erica turned her head to look into Samantha's face, and also noticed that Duncan was slouching in Travis' arms. "Dang. I guess this was more exciting than I had expected. Travis, can you take her and get them both into bed?"

"Sure." He took Sam from Erica and left the camera's view.

Erica tracked them away before turning to us with a big smile on her face. "So, you're going to be home the day after tomorrow, right?"

Lacey nodded. "We'll leave early. Ish. Then drive on to your house."

"Don't bother coming here. We'll take all the kids, and your dogs, to your house right after supper. That way, you can just come home and have a reunion."

"How have they been?" I asked.

"Wyatt, you're going to have your hands full with Sam."

"Oh?"

"She's going to be a ringleader when she gets older. She seems to be the one who comes up with the games that she, Duncan, and Amanda play."

"Okay, but what does that have to do with anything?" I was still puzzled.

"She's already a little leader, and if she has Lacey's eyes and smile, you're in trouble, my friend." She grinned at me as Lacey giggled.

"She's already a Daddy's girl, so he's going to be used to it."

"Hey!" They both started to giggle as Travis rejoined Erica.

"What's so funny?"

Erica looks at him. "Just teasing Wyatt about Sam already having him wrapped her little finger."

"Welcome to the club. Amanda has done that to me, so we can whine together." He had a big grin on his face, and I realized that I did, too. "Well, all three of them have crashed -- your two and Amanda. This call, on top of the fun after lunch, really wore them down."

Erica looked serious as she said, "Wyatt, have you told Lacey about what I said?"

Lacey looked at me. "What's she talking about?"

I sighed. "Not yet."

"Afraid?" Came the soft question.

"Perhaps."

"What are you two talking about? Wyatt? Erica?" Lacey seemed confused and concerned.

Erica smiled gently at us through the screen. "It's nothing bad, Lacey, honest." She held her hand up. "He needs to tell you, though. She needs to know, Wyatt."

"I need to know what, Wyatt?" Lacey demanded.

"Erica?"

"No. This is your tale. She needs to hear it from you. And only you." She leaned toward the screen. "Tell her. Now. On your own." The screen went dark.

Lacey sat up and faced me. Her eyes were narrowed as she stared at me. "Tell me. Now!"

I sighed again. "Remember the night I got hurt?"

"Only as a nightmare anymore, but yes."

"Well, I was pretty messed up, and thanks to you, I still have this." I patted my left leg.

She smiled, but the serious expression returned. "It scared the hell out of me, too." I took her hand.

"Lacey, the one thing that terrified me was that I was not going to be there with you when those babies decided that they were ready for their debut."

"Why?"

"Honey, I love you, and I will always be there for you. I made that commitment when we first agreed to live together. That was reinforced when you got pregnant. And it's even stronger now than it was then."

"You never told me about this commitment, love." Lacey's expression was softer now.

"It never came up in conversation."

She tilted her head and her eyes narrowed again.

"It would have, I reckon, at some point in time." I sat up a little more. "At any rate, after my surgery, you remember what they said about recovery, right?"

"Yes! You weren't going to be walking for at least three months." Realization started to show on her face. "They were born six weeks after your surgery..."

"And where was I when you went into labor?"

"Right behind me, letting me hold your arms as you held me. You got up on the bed, and then I slid back into your arms. Holding me tight. Talking to me. Just as things began to get intense, a nurse started talking to you. She was on my left, but I don't think I ever heard what she was saying." Lacey's hand covered her mouth, and tears started to form in her eyes. "Oh my god! I didn't realize..."

I reached out and cupped her face in my hand. "You *were* kinda busy at the time, Beloved." She turned her head to kiss my hand.

"So, what was Erica talking about?"

"Oh. After they checked out the babies, do you remember that two of the nurses helped me get out from behind you?"

"Yes... I do remember that. Why?"

I gave her a weak grin. "I was overdoing it that day, my princess."

"Oh?"

"I nearly passed out. The nurses kept me from hitting the floor. While they were taking care of you, two other nurses came in and took care of *me*."

Lacey got on her knees and hit me in the chest, once with each fist. "You shit! Why did you hide that from me? You shit!" Tears were in her eyes when I grabbed her fists. "How bad was it?"

"You didn't notice the blood -- one of the nurses said that he wasn't surprised by that. They had to redo seven of the sutures right there. Your doctor chewed me out, too, but he admitted that he understood once I explained it to him."

Lacey cried out, threw herself onto me and all I could do was hold her tightly as she sobbed into my neck. "I didn't know, Wyatt, I didn't know! I'm sorry I got mad! Please forgive me!"

"Forgive you, Lacey? I was the one who didn't tell you what had happened nearly nineteen months ago."

She forced herself back. "You're not mad at me?"

"Why would I be mad at you, Beloved?"

"Well," she started to relax. "I hit you just then. I know you don't like that."

"I'm just glad you didn't hit me even harder than you did."

She looked up and started to giggle. "I could hit you harder, if you'd like."

"I'll pass on that for right now."

"I think I understand, Wyatt. I'm not sure if I care for it, but I understand."

"Shall we kiss and make up, then?"

Lacey's hands caressed my face. "I like the idea of making up." Her kisses started on my neck. My hands gently massaged her back, and I turned my face towards her. We tenderly kissed, our lips just brushing against each other, our breathing soft as we looked into each other's eyes.

"I love you, Lacey. I should have told you..." She put her fingers on my lips.

"It's okay, love, it is. I love you, too, and I think I understand you a little more."

Snuggling close to me again, "You're more complicated than people think you are."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, and I really like it."

"Good."

We cuddled there, on the couch, just being together.

A tapping at the door startled me. Lacey laughed softly. "I ordered room service for supper, right after we had lunch."

Getting off my lap, she walked to the door. "Yes?" The answer must have been acceptable, because she opened the door, and a young man wheeled a table into the kitchenette area. He set everything up, deftly swung two of the kitchenette chairs into position and took the tip she handed him. He nodded as he closed the door.

I held her chair out for her, and then sat down, too. "So, what's for dinner?"

Lacey lifted the covers off the plates and smiled at me. "A hearty beef stew, fresh bread, red wine for me, and iced tea for you."

"So that's what he was doing at the fridge."

"Yes, love, there's a big pitcher in there." I grinned at her, and she smiled back as she reached out for my hand, touching it softly with her fingers. "I know your secrets."

"Oh?"

"Yes. For one, you love me, the twins, and Adam more than anything else in the world." I nodded.

"For two, you love Erica and her family a lot." I nodded again.

"And, for three, you're a dirty old man who loves sex." I grinned.

"Guilty as charged."

"And, because of that, I think you're going to really love Cathy."

"Oh?"

"Oh, yes." Lacey's smile was wicked. "She's delicious, as you'll learn next weekend."

"More delicious than you?"

Her laughter made me join in. "You'll have to do a taste comparison."

Once we finished eating, she smiled at me. "Put the table out in the hall, love."

"Okay." She walked into the bedroom, and I caught a glimpse of her naughty smile. I shook my head as I got everything that was going out placed on the table -- she certainly did know how to entice me. I made sure that the fire was out and left just a single light on low.

When I returned to the bedroom, there was no lamp on. I stopped in the doorway and saw that the curtains that covered the skylight were pulled back, letting in enough moonlight to see her on the bed.

She was naked, except for her birthday presents.

"Glad you could make it." Lacey's voice was low, but I could hear the excitement in it.

I swallowed as I looked at you. "So am I. Are you my dessert?"

She chuckled. "Of course, I am. And you're mine if you'll get undressed and get on this bed."

I stripped quickly, tossing my clothes on the chair. I started to climb over the foot of the bed, and she patted the bed beside her. I grinned and shook my head. I crawled to her feet and start kissing the right one.
