Author's Note Parts of Louisiana have descendants from French people moved from Canada by the British after the British lost the American Revolutionary War. The British were pissed that the French helped the Americans. Cajun the word is shortened version of Acadian which is what the people were called when they arrived in Louisiana. They speak a time in the bottle version of French as it was in 1750. Of course, with influences from Spanish, black slaves and Native Americans. Modern examples include Lacey Chabert, Jared Leto, James Carville and others. My family from there, I spent time there. There are two hundred and fifty thousand Cajun and Creole people in America now.

It be Sister Mary driving school van and me and Mama and Mary Louise. Two hundred meters be at eight fifteen and the four hundred at nine. Staggered start for the two hundred and I be on extreme outside, Mary Louise on extreme inside, her daddy be pushing her buttons for her.
"Gloria! Don't you think your're falling, If everybody wants you Why isn't anybody callin' You don't have to answer Leave 'em hangin' on the line Oh-oh, Calling Gloria I be running hard to the inside, like I never, ever run before. Gloria! Be in my heart!
I on inside lane coming out da turn, Gloria! Den I won, wit both hands in da air, I sunk to my knees. Mary Louise be on her knees hugging me, said, "I am sorry."
Da man said, "Beth Moss of Holy Names Academy wins the two hundred meter women's run, " and he paused, "She ties Florence Griffith Joyner's world record of twenty one and point four three seconds set in the Seoul Olympics of 1988. Thirty six years ago."
Da crowd be screaming, Mary Louise and Mama helped me up and der was dese reporters talking to me, one asked, "How did you do it Beth, what motivates you?"
"I be Beth Moss, coon ass orphan and da sisters be taking care of me, feed me, saving my life. I be running for dem, dey everything to me."
Sister Mary said, "No more questions, Beth has another event to run."
Mama said, "Here cher drink some sweet tea and here be two cookies."
It be just da perfect thing, I be done wit everything and heard da man say runner's report for four hundred meters. I turned and hugged Sister Mary and told her, "I meant it, you be everything to me, I be dead weren't fo you."
I be on da outside again and Mama's song bout da Galveston Bay and I be keeping da wolves away as I hit the inside lane. Der be a tall black girl just front a me, Gloria I sang dey got your number out loud, she be looking at me and I be gone past her running wit all I got and I be winning by thirty feet.
Da man be saying, "That was Beth Moss of Holy Names Academy with the win at four hundred meters obliterating the high school and NCAA records at forty seven seconds at forty seven point six five seconds, just missing Marita Koch's world record of forty seven point six zero seconds."
I be sobbing, seeing daddy's and mama's face. Right der I forgave mama.
Den Sister Mary and Mama were on me and da reporters asked why I was crying.
"I be remembering Daddy and Mama and how dey loved me. I be home now wit da sisters, I be weighing eighty seven pounds nine months ago, homeless, stealing food cher, you ever steal food to eat? I did. Dey feed me, I have nice bed and my classmates love me, dey teach me, we be reading John Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat, dey like me, homeless and hungry. On't you be not eating fo a week, get back to me. Der be food everywhere, why be starving people? Got a go now. Be seeing you all da morning."

We got off da van, I be really stiff and it be hard to go up da steps. Mama I be really stiff, If I run some really slow intervals around da neighborhood and then take a bath that be okay?"
I got da key wit da wrist band and set off to do two five thousands until I be really slow and it worked. I got back about forty minutes later and da television be on in Sister Mary's office. I walked in and der was six sisters and some of the volunteer teachers.
One of them said, "Watch it again, Mama said."
Da television man said, "For the love of God, look at her run, she's as fast as Flo Jo," and I won and I was talking again, "I be Beth Moss, coon ass orphan and da sisters be taking care of me, feed me, saving my life. I be running for dem, dey everything to me."
Den da next race and the television man be saying, "This is just extraordinary she's a high school kid, like the old baseball movie The Natural and she runs away from everyone, then listen to his, "I be remembering Daddy and Mama and how dey loved me. Be seeing you all da morning." She's going to run again tomorrow eight hundred and five thousand meters tomorrow. Just unbelievable."
Sister Mary turned and said, "Hi Beth, did you have a good run? Why did you run again?"
"Sister I be so stiff, lactic acid be in my muscles, so I run two very slow five thousand intervals. It really helps, pain and stiffness gone. It be okay I take bath?"
"Sure!"
I turned be slowly walking up da stairs. I got some old Bossier City sweats and went to the tub and ran a bath.
I lay in da bath and listened to music from downstairs, Aaron Copland and it was incredible. I got out after bout twenty minutes sort of dried my hair, not my body and put on da sweats from St. Joseph's in Bossier City and went downstairs as dinner smelled so good.
Der was a senior girl sitting in da living room. I sat on da couch, next to a girl named Heidi. She bit her lip and said, "You look like a red headed Marilyn Monroe. If I was a guy or lesbian, I'd hit on you so hard and so often to wear you down. I might be queer as it's you. You ooze sex, maybe one of the most beautiful women alive."
I be saying low voice back at Heidi, "Girl I be virgin, want be mama, wit husband."
For I know it she be smashing my lips, nose be next to mine, her tongue in my mouth, her eyelashes be fluttering mine, her tongue dancing on my tongue, be pinching my nipples, I all wet, just like before, but she be gentle. I be groaning in her mouth.
Sister Mary from the kitchen said, "Beth, there's phone call for you."
I be running from dat girl into the kitchen and Sister Mary handed me da phone, "Dis be Beth."
There be a sigh, "Dis be Jane your Mama's sister, child."
"Why you be calling me?"

"I be real hungry, Mama and I tired. Had a good run. Can I help for dinner?"
"It's ready Cher, "she smiled at me and I impulsively hugged her."
