"Ugh this sucks!" Kayla stared out the passenger seat at the heavy rain beating down on the car and the campsite in front of the car that looked like a large pool of mud. "Our whole weekend is ruined!" She turned and looked at her childhood best friend, Josh, who was driving the Jeep that was now covered in mud as well.
"Let's just see if we can wait it out. Where are the others?" Josh asked Kayla. The original plan was to enjoy a long weekend of camping with almost a dozen friends from high school. It was their annual reunion and this was supposed to be their 10th year anniversary. After high school, everyone gone different ways and went to school, started working, and moved away. In their late 20s, it had become increasingly harder to get together so this was supposed to be an exciting weekend.
They were up at a campsite that was a few hours outside of the city. Kayla pulled out her phone from her purse and started checking her messages.
"Shit. Nobody is coming." Kayla put her phone down and sighed. "What should we do? Should we go back?"
Josh was two years older than Kayla and had known her since they were kids. They grew up next door to each other and were in the same class until they parted ways for university. He had watched her grow from the girl next door who caught bugs with him to a beautiful 5 foot 8 fit, athletic bombshell that men constantly fawned over. He never really thought about it because they were best friends but he could never deny that any guy she was with was a lucky guy.
"Let's see if we can wait out the rain first. You know what we should do?" Josh grinned as he unbuckled his seatbelt and reached into the backseat for his backpack. He pulled out a small box and pulled out a perfectly rolled joint.
"Oh my god, are we going to hotbox the car? Are we 16 again?" Kayla started laughing.
"Hey now! I thought it'd be fun. We also have lots of booze in the cooler in the trunk." Josh retorted. He knew she was going to be game for it. "Let's crawl into the back so we can put the seat down and grab the cooler while we smoke. More space."
Josh hopped into the backseat and pushed the seat down, making it a perfectly flat space with more than enough space to stretch out and smoke. He wrangled the cooler out from under the tent and pulled out a bottle of tequila.
Kayla continued to laugh but undid her seatbelt and crawled into the backseat. "I haven't drank tequila since I was in college. Oh man, this is going to be just like old times." They sat opposite each other against the doors with their legs stretched out.
Josh opened the bottle of tequila and took a drink and handed the bottle to Kayla, who took a swig as well. Josh lit the joint and the two of them began to smoke the delicious grass and fill the jeep with smoke. Soon, the two were giggling over the time they first tried pot and ended up burning off Josh's left eyebrow.
"Oh man, so, what's new with you? Have some more tequila!" Kayla caught her breath and tried to maintain her composure after a laughing fit. She took another drink of tequila and passed Josh the bottle for him to take a sip as well.
"I've been good. Working. As you know, Chloe and I aren't together anymore." Josh said as he cracked open a can of beer. "Things just weren't good anymore and we gave it a shot but it wasn't meant to be."
"Yeah, but it's for the best. None of us liked her anyway." Kayla said to Josh, who looked at her with a surprised look on his face.
"Oh, who am I kidding. She was a bitch. A year of my life, but at least it was only a year of my life. Shit, I didn't even get laid for the last half of it." Josh took another puff on the joint. "This is like the never ending joint."
Kayla took the joint from him and took a large puff. She started laughing. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. But how do guys even stay with girls who don't give them some? I mean, that's just rude."
"I know, right?" Josh said. He polished off the last of his beer. He was very stoned and sitting in the remnant haze didn't help.
Suddenly, Kayla shifted over to sit beside him and pressed herself right up against his left side. He shifted over to make room for her and put his arm around her as she rested her head on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry that you weren't getting any," Kayla said. Josh looked down as he felt her put her hand on his leg. They had known each other for so long that he didn't even think twice about it. Kayla started talking about how she was tired of being single, even though she enjoyed being single. She worked as a PR executive and met a lot of men who were major disappointments and couldn't keep up with her.
She started telling Josh about the last bad date she had. "This guy was unreal. He was so into himself it wasn't even funny. I'm pretty sure he made a reference to how big his penis was like ten times throughout dinner."
Josh laughed. "Oh man. You mean that's NOT what I'm supposed to talk about on a date?"
Kayla playfully pushed him with her shoulders. "Well, I mean, I may have still sort of hooked up with him. I didn't sleep with him but I was curious, you know? I just gave him a handjob in the car before he dropped me off. He was nowhere near large.. maybe 5 inches."
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. That got super graphic. I'm so stoned. Sorry Josh." Kayla started blushing and turned red. She was so embarrassed that it was almost endearing to Josh.
