Chapter One
It was a warm rainy summer morning. Drake Ambrosia was having coffee and talking to some friend about the up coming high school and college football games at the local McDonalds when Serena Martins walked in. She didn't see him as she walked up to the counter to place her order. The only thing that's changed about her is her hair. She use to keep it cut short now she's let it grow until it hangs to the middle of her back. Drake thought as he looked at her.
As he watched her he was nudged by a guy sitting beside him named Clint Douglas. "What's up?" Drake asked when he looked at hm.
"Do you know that woman standing at the counter?" he asked
"Yeah but it's been a while since I've seen her, though" Drake answered.
"Who do you like WVU or Marshall, Drake?" he asked.
"I like them both but I like WVU the best, though" he answered.
"I graduated from Marshall so I like them better than any other college football teams around" He said.
"I have a relative who graduated from WVU and one who graduated from Marshall," Drake said.
"What do you do when WVU plays Marshall?" he asked.
"I pray for a tie," he answered, causing him and everyone else to laugh.
"Long time no see, Drake," a female voice said.
When he turned to see who was talking to him he saw the prettiest blue eyes he had ever seen looking back at him.
"it's been a while, Serena," Drake said. Have a seat. How have you been, Serena?" Drake asked.
"I've been good, and you?" she asked.
"I've been good also" he answered. What brings you back to West Virginia?" Drake asked as he looked at her.
"This is going to sound like a lame ass pick up line, but I came back looking for you," she answered.
"Why are you looking for me?" he asked.
"Can we talk in private?" she asked.
"there's some booth in the back we can talk in one of them if you want to" Drake answered.
"one of the booths in the back will be fine," she said.
"Want some more coffee, Drake?" Clint asked.
"Yeah, thanks. Three creams and one Splenda," Drake answered.
Clint nodded as he got up to get his and Drake's coffee. After a few minutes Clint came back with the coffees. "Three creams, one Splenda," he said as he handed the cup to Drake.
"Serena, this is Clint Douglas" Drake said.
"It's nice to meet you," Clint said.
"It's nice to meet you also, Clint." Serena said as she and Drake got up and headed back to the booths in the back.
When they sat down, Drake looked at Serena. "Why are you looking for me?" he asked.
"I wanted to say I was sorry for the way I acted back in high school, when I thought you were cheating on me." She answered.
"That was a long time ago, Serena" Drake said
"I know." she said.
"What's the real reason you came back, Serena?" Drake asked.
"I'm still in love with you, and I came back hoping that you were single and would want to see if we could rekindle the flame we had back in high school," Serena answered.
"I'm single and I still love you, also," Drake said, causing her to give him a dazzling smile.
"I was so stupid for thinking that you'd cheat on me," she said.
"Your sister was a good liar" Drake said.
"She still is a good liar, maybe even a better liar now," Serena said, causing Drake to chuckle. "She had me convinced that you were cheating on me with her that I wanted to call you that night and cuss you out then break up with you," she said.
"You didn't cuss me, but you did break up with me," Drake said.
"You tried to tell me that she was trying to break us up so she could date you but I wouldn't listen. It wasn't until you began to date my sister Candy that I realized the mistake I made by believing her shit. When we got home I beat the shit out of her for costing me the only man who was right for me," Serena said.
"She told me that was jumped by several girls, and they gave her a beating. When I asked her why they gave her a beating she wouldn't tell me," Drake said.
"I gave her the beating, I told her that she ever hurt you I'd beat her again, only worse," Serena said.
"How long have you had long hair?" Drake asked as he reached over and stroked her hair causing her to softly moan.
"I grew it long after I left here and moved to L.A, California I was a bleached beach blonde for a while also, once I decided to come back I left my hair long but I went back to my natural light auburn color,
she answered. Do you think we can get back what I threw away?" Serena asked.
"I don't know if I want try Serena," Drake answered.
"I knew it was a mistake trying to find you but I had to see if we could get back together," she said then she got up and started to leave.
"Can we start out being friends and go from there?" Drake asked as Serena went up to the front she sat down beside Clint and began talking to him. Fuck it, Drake thought as he got up and tossed his cup into the trash. He went out the back door and got into his truck and left. Who does she think she is coming back here after all these years and expecting me to act like things haven't changed Drake thought. As he drove to the mall his cell phone rang. He pulled off the road and answered it "yeah" he said.
"Where did you go, Drake?" Clint asked.
"I'm on my way to the mall" Drake answered.
"Your friend Serena asked me to call you, Drake," Clint said.
"It's cool, man" Drake said.
"She wants to talk to you," Clint said.
"Put her on," Drake said.
"Hey," Serena said.
"Hey," Drake said.
"I acted like a bitch, didn't I?" she asked.
"Yeah," Drake answered.
"I wish we could talk some more, but not at the fast food place," Serena said.
"Where are you staying?" Drake asked.
"I'm at the local motel room 35," she answered.
"All right," Drake said.
"After I've finished talking to you I'm heading back there," Serena said.
"Alright," Drake said.
"Are you coming to the motel?" she asked.
"I doubt it," Drake answered.
"I guess I blew any chance of being your friend or love," she said.
"I don't know Serena I need time to think about it," he said.
"okay, Drake , I've moved back for good so you can take your time and think," she said.
"Thanks , Serena," Serena said.
"Yeah," she said, then she hung up.
Drake sat there for a few minutes. Damn it, I wish I didn't love her so much, he thought, then he pulled back onto the road and headed back the way he came. After a short while he pulled in front of her hotel room and got out of his truck. Drake was about to know on the door when it opened, and Serena was standing there where a light pink rode. Her hair was wet like she in the rain.
"Did I catch you at a bad time?" he asked.
"no I had just gotten out of the shower when I heard something. I looked out and saw you getting out of your truck," she answered. She stepped out of the way so Drake could come in. "Sorry for the mess" she said after she had shut the door.
Drake looked at Serena, then he take's her into his arms and began to kiss her passionately as he stroke's her wet hair.
"Wow that's what I call a great way to say hello," Serena said causing Drake to grin as he continued to stroke her wet hair.
" I don't know what will happen but I'm willing to see if there's anything left of the flame we had thirty years ago," Drake said, Causing Serena to smile as she hugged him tighter. "Do you like to shop?" Drake asked.
"Hell yeah, babe, I was born to shop," she answered.
After a few minutes Serena removed her robe. "What do you think?" she asked then she slowly turned around so Drake could see all of her naked body.
"You're still as sexy as you were thirty years ago," he answered.
