It had been a few days since Harley and Dean had their wild ride in the shower. Selina had left and headed back to Gotham while Ivy and Harley stayed with Dean. Harley was still healing as Dean stayed by her side making sure she had whatever she needed while Ivy checked on her constantly as well.
Dean awoke lying next to Harley who slept a lot due to her injuries. It was strange because he knew who she was and everything she had done over the years. She was a famous psychotic criminal and had even felt the barrel of her gun against his head many times now but seeing her sleeping there next to him because she didn't want him to leave her side it began to make him think about who the real Harley Quinn was under the craziness, and makeup.
The door swung open and he saw Ivy standing there with a worried look on her face. "What is it?" Dean asked confused.
"We have to leave, help me with her," she said as Dean jumped out of bed and scooped Harley up in his arms and followed Ivy out.
He saw blue and red lights reflecting on the windows and he knew they were surrounded. He didn't see Selena anywhere but couldn't worry about that at the moment as Ivy had a look of panic on her face that she was trying to hide from him.
"Take Harley, I will run a distraction!" He said as Ivy looked at him with a confused expression.
"You really think you can get away from us that easily?"
"No seriously, there is a back way out through the manager's office which leads into the alley, there is a sewer where you can get down, not the best way but I don't have any other ideas."
"Why should I believe you?"
"Do you really have a choice?"
"I could just kill you!" Ivy said getting annoyed.
"And waist time, get her out if here, I'll tell them you went a different direction."
"You know I will kill you if you betray us."
"Wait!" Harley said as Ivy helped her stand before she reached out for Dean pulling him close.
Dean wasn't sure what she wanted at first until she pulled him close and planted a kiss on his lips. It went on for a few moments as neither one of them wanted to let go of each other as Ivy stood there feeling a little awkward.
"You won't let me down," Harley said pulling away from him. "Right?"
"Never, now go, quickly!"
They got into the hallway and heard the police officers downstairs. Dean pointed Ivy to the manager's office and then turned towards the voices. Ivy took Harley down the hall as Dean went down towards the police in a hurry. They took out their guns and pointed them at him not sure who he was or what he was doing at first.
"Oh thank god you're here," he said panting. "They just escaped through the balcony, jumping to the other rooftop." A few of the men ran outside while the officer he spoke to cuffed Dean. "What are you...."
"You're coming with us, got some questions for you downtown Dean," he said as Dean suddenly realized that they knew who he was.
He didn't think Selina would have ratted them out, but he also didn't know her that well either. He was more worried about Harley at the moment hoping Ivy was able to escape with her and get her to safety. He still wasn't sure why he was so protective of her, after everything they had done he still had a soft spot for her.
He stayed in the interrogation room for a long time. When someone finally came in they fed him the usual riot act, played good cop and bad cop while trying to get information out of him. He thought it was kind of funny like he was in a TV show or old comic book. He told them the same story each time and they, of course, didn't believe him.
"Ever since you were kidnapped by Harley you have been in contact with her haven't you?" One of the officers asked.
"What.... No, I...."
"Here is a picture of her and Ivy at the Hotel you were staying at, and then they just happened to know where you lived as well?"
Dean was suddenly sure he was screwed. No matter what he said they would never believe any of it anyway so he decided to just keep his mouth shut and say nothing as they threw him a cell for days.
After about a week by his count, he was sitting in his cell when the door suddenly opened. There was a man in a suit and a police officer standing there who motioned for him to go with them. He was a little confused but he got up and followed the two men who brought him into an office where they told him he was free to go.
"Wait, what?" He asked wondering what had happened.
"We caught Ivy and Harley," the man in the suit said. "Ivy told us how she used her chemicals to control you and even make you lie for her, it's a trick she has used on many men in the past, but they both insisted that you were innocent and we found traces of a strange substance in your bloodstream that we have seen before."
"So, I am free to go?"
"Yes sir, we may have some follow up questions later but for now you can go, sorry about all the trouble," he continued to say as they brought in his clothes and other belongings. "Just do yourself a favor, next time you want to date, stay away from the Gotham City Sirens."
Dean chuckled a little at the man's joke as he was escorted outside very confused. He signed a few papers and then was shown the door wondering why Ivy would vouch for him like that. He was now a little scared for his life wondering when her or one of her men were going to come for him.
----------
It had been about two years since that night where Harley and Ivy escaped from his apartment. Dean had found a new place to live and had also found a new job as he was doing alright for himself. He was single and still thought about Harley every now and then as during the last few years he had watched a lot of news.
After he had been released he had found out that Ivy and Harley were caught outside of town. Harleys injuries were too severe to keep going and unfortunately, it lead to their capture. Every time there was something on the news about either of them he was glued to his TV watching and listening to everything.
About a year ago the Joker had died in some sort of accident. Batman was involved but the whole story was never released. It wasn't until recently he was curious because after the Jokers death and a lot of therapy Harley was apparently being released back into society. There was an interview with her and she truly seemed like she was finally in a good place in her life.
"Good for her," he said out loud feeling happy that maybe she could have a normal life now.
Ivy had escaped Arkham a long time ago which always had him a little nervous. He thought she would come for him at some point but she had seemed to fall off the grid completely to the point nobody seemed to know where she was. He also heard rumors of Salena Kyle possibly being engaged to Bruce Wayne which he figured was a scam she was pulling but after the night he spent with her he almost envied the billionaire a little.
