In the morning, Beyonce opened her eyes and stretched, grinning the entire time. âMan, I feel so relaxed.â She hopped out of her bunk and looked in Kellyâs. It was empty. âI guess our little talk will have to happen later. Good!â Beyonce didnât really want to deal with it, in fact she hoped Kelly wouldnât mention it but they had promised to talk through any problems they had since the group change and she knew Kelly wouldnât let anything go. Beyonce reached for the bathroom door as Kelly opened and came out.
âOh, hey Kelly.â âBeyonce, we need to talk. Now!â said Kelly. âI know, I know but I need...â âNo. Now.â She realized that Kelly wasnât going to let her get away until they talked so she went and sat on Michelleâs bunk. âOK, you go first.â Kelly hesitated. She hadnât really thought about what she wanted to say. âUmm, last night was... I mean I wanna know if you...I mean what was that about?â âI know Kelly. Maybe we should just pretend it didnât happen. I mean, letâs just say it was something special, a one time thing. We donât need to let this come between us. OK?â âUhh, yeah OK Bee. Girl, I was worried for a minute there. Thinking you might be getting feelings. I was just so surprised.â Kelly laughed. âPlease you donât have to worry about that. I was just playing around...you know what? Letâs stop talking about it. Iâm going to shower now. We still girls right?â asked Beyonce. âForeverâ said Kelly as she pulled Bee in for a hug.
As Beyonce pulled back, she thought she saw Kellyâs lip quiver, but she shook that idea out of her head when she saw Kelly smile at her. âYou know what? Iâm going for a walk. I need some fresh air so I can think.â Beyonce was walking down the hall thinking about her conversation with Kelly when she heard a manâs voice.
âHey Beyonce. What up?â Beyonce turned around to see whoâs interrupting her. She smiled when she saw Nelly standing behind her. âHey Nelly, whatâs up?â âNothing, little ma. Just walking around, looking for you.â She smiled wider this time. âSo, you found me. You want...?â Nelly said between laughs, âJust to see if you wanted to talk, watch a movie, get something to eat or anything?â Beyonce smiled at Nelly and said âNelly, Why donât we just go? Is there someplace where we can chill? ALONE.â
An hour and a half later, Bee knew she had made a mistake. Anything had to be better than this. She had absolutely nothing in common with Nelly. He could talk about nothing forever. And thatâs exactly what he was talking about and how long he had been talking about it. She was going to scream if he didnât shut up soon. âYo, Bee. Am I boring you?â âUhh, no. I love hearing about St. Louis, and the St. Lunatics, and your shows, and what you spend your money onâ she said sarcastically. But he obviously didnât get it or he just didnât care because he smiled and kept right on talking. Beyonce sighed, rolled her eyes and looked around the room, trying to tune him out. Then she felt Nellyâs breath on her neck. He moved closer and said in a low voice âDamn girl, you smell good.â
She turned to look at him and he was licking his lips and looking her up and down. She blushed. âThank you, but Iâm not wearing anything.â
Nelly laughed and muttered âI wish.â But Bee heard him, and she smiled. âHmm,â she thought, âthe fact that I donât want to date him, shouldnât stop us from being friends. Let me see where this goes.â So she looked Nelly in his eyes and said âYou wish what?â
He looked at her, then looked around the room. âWhat?â
âWhat do you wish?â
âI was just... I mean... damn girl. I was just playing.â
âAbout what? What were you wishing for?â teased Beyonce. She was going to make him say it. And then maybe she would grant his wish.
âMan why donât you stop playing. You donât want none.â
âWhatever. You shouldnât have said it if you werenât man enough to repeat it.â She laughed to herself. She was enjoying seeing Nelly so nervous. Her attitude change had obviously unnerved him.
âHold up girl. I said âI wishâ about you wearing nothing. I wasnât talking about no perfume either. What!â He sat back and looked at her waiting for her response.
There. He had put it out in the open. Now Bee had to decide how to respond. She didnât want him to think she was scared but she wasnât sure if an aggressive approach would work. Look how nervous he got when they were just talking. She wasnât sure what to do but she had to do something now.
