"Dunder-Mifflin, this is Pam."
Pam Beesley, the receptionist at the Scranton branch of the small paper company answered the phone. She had worked at Dunder-Mifflin for almost 5 years. It was a mundane job, but it paid the bills. Hopefully, when her and her fiancΓ©e Roy finally get married she can quit and focus on her real passion, art. Pam loved to sketch and paint. And she was pretty good at it. But her artwork wouldn't pay the rent or buy food. So, here she was answering phones at Dunder-Mifflin.
"Oh hi Jan, yes Michael is in, I'll put you through." Pam transferred the call to her boss Michael Scott. Michael was the weirdest person she ever worked for. He was so strange. He could be funny, embarrassing, wildly inappropriate, and inspirational all in the same sentence. But today Pam wanted him to be productive. It was the end of the month and Pam had to input the time sheets. But Michael had to do his job first. He had to review and sign all of them before she could input the data. It was getting late and he still hadn't signed them. Pam looked at the clock. If he didn't sign them soon she'd have to stay late.
She looked at her best friend in the office, Jim Halpert. He was on a sales call. Pam really liked Jim. He's smart, funny and handsome. If she wasn't already engaged to Roy, she'd would definitely go out with him. Jim glanced her way and smiled. She smiled back at him. Suddenly the door to Michaels office opened and her boss came out into the main room.
"Attention everyone," he began "I have an important announcement. Due to declining sales, corporate states that there will be some downsizing." Audible groans came from many of the employees.
"Is it going to be anyone here?" Asked Phylis, another sales agent.
"I don't know, but I doubt they would let anyone go in the best, most productive branch in the company!" Michael said cheerfully.
"What exactly did Jan say Michael?" Pam asked. Jim looked at her and gave her a thumbs up and a smile. That made her blush.
"She did say that one of the branches will be shutting down. She didn't say which one. They have to evaluate them them all. But I will tell you all right now, I won't let them close us down." He said confidently.
"How are you going to do that, you can barely run this office." Barked Stanley. The senior salesman.
"I am working on it Stanley!" Michael said exasperated. He turned to go back into his office. As he did so Pam stood up to get his attention.
"Michael, can you please sign the time cards and get them to me! I need to get them entered. I don't want to stay late."
"Pam, I am up to my eyeballs here, I'll get them to you in a few minutes." He replied and quickly went into his office and closed the door. Pam rolled her eyes and sighed. It was looking likely that she was going to have to stay late.
"Dammit Michael!' She said under her breath.
She was looking at the her computer screen when Jim approached her desk. Jim frequently came over to her desk. She really enjoyed it when he visited her. It made the day go by much faster.
"Hey, so what are you doing this weekend?" He asked.
"Oh, Roy and I are hanging out with his brothers tonight then tomorrow we are going to a Philly and watch a Hockey game. What about you?" She asked.
"Wow, sounds like a fun time. I'm actually going to New York City to visit a friend. He works for a Wall Street investment firm and we have't seen each other in a while. Hopefully it'll be a fun weekend" Jim had just finished talking when the door to the office opened and in came Roy. He smiled at Pam, then gave a cold look to Jim. Roy did not like Jim because it seemed he was always at Pam's desk. He shifted his focus back to Pam.
"Hey, so are you really interested in going to the hockey game? Cuz my brother kinda wants to go." He said to her.
"Really? well I kinda looking forward to going and spending time with you, but if you rather go with your brother, that's ok." Pam said. Trying to hide the disappointment.
"Ok cool, thanks babe. I promise I'll make it up to you." He glared once more at Jim and turned to leave. He opened the door and before he left said to Pam, "Oh, and we're going to go to Philly tonight and hang out instead of tomorrow, So I'll see you Sunday." Before Pam could say anything, he left the office and headed back downstairs to the warehouse.
Pam looked dejected. She didn't really like hockey, but she did want to spend time with Roy. Lately, he's always hanging out with his friends or his brothers. The only time he really seems to want to spend time with her is when he's horny. She looked up at Jim.
"Well I guess my weekend just opened up." She said sadly.
"Want to come to New York with me?" He asked. He knew she wouldn't come. If she did and Roy found out there would be trouble. But he really wished she would drop that bozo and come with him.
"You know it's tempting," she said smiling, "but I better not. It's ok. I can work on some art projects I have and I'll watch some chick flicks on TV."
"Well ok, that sounds like a good weekend." He said. He smiled and headed back to his desk. Pam watched him go back. Wishing she was going with him to New York City. Movement snapped her out of day dream.
"Pam, do you know why the printer is not working?" Asked Kevin, the dim witted overweight accountant asked. "I've tried to print a document several times and it's not printing."
Pam felt repulsed. Of all the people in the office, Kevin Malone creeped her out the most. He was always staring at her chest. Like he was doing now. Or making inappropriate comments to her. He was just gross. She hated it when he came up to her desk. She used to wear cute clothes at work. But every time she wore anything that showed any cleavage, Kevin would always be at her desk staring at her chest. Michael would almost always make lewd comments. So she wore tops that were either crew neck or button up like the shirt she had on now. With all the buttons done.
"No Kevin, I don't know why the printer isn't printing. Did you check to see if it was jammed?" She said as she crossed her arms over her chest. He was just staring at her breasts.
"Oh yeah, that's probably it. Thanks Pam." He said as he looked her in the eye then back to her breasts. He gave her a creepy smile then walked back to his desk and sat down.
"What the hell, why didn't he go check the printer?" She thought to herself. Then she realized, "He didn't need to print anything. He just came over to stare at my tits. Jerk"
It was almost 5. People were getting their things together and getting ready to leave for the weekend. Michael's office door opened up. He walked out ready to leave, Pam jumped up.
"Michael, you have to review and sign the time cards. I have to get them in before I can leave. Please." She asked exasperated.
Michael sighed. "Alright let me have them." He took out a pen and with out even looking at them he signed them quickly. "Ok there, you happy?" And handed them to her. "Geez Pam, you're so bossy." He turned to the rest of the office. "Alright everyone, have a great weekend. Me and Packer are going to party it up. Lots of girls and good times. See you all Monday." He turned and left the office. This started a mass exodus out of the office. Kevin got up to leave then immediately felt his lunch of his homemade chili run through him. He made a bee line for the restroom. Jim was one of the last to leave.
"You want me to hang out while you enter those?" He asked.
Pam smiled. It would be nice to have company while she entered them. It would take her about an hour to get them all in. But she didn't want to waste his time.
