Kathy Fox and I attended the same junior high school. The only classes we had together were 7th and 8th grade honors English. We knew who each other was. That was all.
In 8th grade her body began to mature. By 9th grade she was physically a woman.
Kathy's best friend, Cindy, and I were good friends.
My plan was to eventually take Kathy out on a date. At age 16 I would have a driver's license and my ophthalmologist would allow me to wear contact lenses. I would have Cindy set us up for a date. That is If Kathy would have me.
In the meantime, not being able to drive and wearing thick lensed, bad looking glasses and being extremely shy would keep me on the sidelines regarding a date with Kathy.
Unfortunately, one day late in my 9th grade year Kathy disappeared. After a week's absence I casually asked Cindy where Kathy was.
Cindy told me her dad took a job in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Ponca City was 90 miles from where I lived. Without a driver's license Ponca City might as well have been on the far side of the moon. No dating opportunities with Kathy. Drat.
Once when we were seniors Cindy and I were talking. Cindy said Kathy visited for the weekend. They went shopping at the mall and other things high school girls do. I asked how Kathy was. Cindy said she was doing fine, but wished she still lived in Wichita than Ponca City. Me too.
After high school graduation Cindy and I went our separate ways. I went to an out-of-town state school. Cindy was into horses. She went to a state community college that had a specialized 2-year equine science program.
At the community college Cindy fell in love with a cowboy from New Mexico. His name was Ken. They were getting married after graduation. Due to our friendship with Cindy, I was invited to the wedding. The wedding was the last Saturday in June.
Kathy was a bridesmaid. She looked stunning in a tight-fitting floor length white lace bridesmaid dress. Her boobs were magnificent. They were narrow at her torso, stuck out and sagged. I estimated her boobs were D cups. The half-moon neckline did not show any cleavage. That did not hide the fact she was stacked. She stood 5' 4". Her dirty blonde hair remained as it was in junior high school, shoulder length, parted in the middle.
With all the cowboys from New Mexico attending the wedding and Kathy being a city girl I figured my chances of chatting with her were good if not great.
After the wedding ceremony everyone headed for the wedding reception at a local country club.
I was one of the first from the wedding to arrive at the country club. In the ballroom, the reception location, I stood near the entrance awaiting Kathy's arrival.
Kathy arrived with the wedding party. She took her place in the receiving line.
As I neared her in the receiving line, she looked at me like she recognized me, but was not sure.
"Hi Kathy, I'm Matt Moore. We went to junior high together."
"Oh, hi Matt. It took me a moment to recognize you without glasses. I presume you wear contact lenses now."
"Yes, I do."
"Contacts are quite becoming of you. Let's catch up later."
I could not believe my ears. We never spoke to each other in junior high school and she wanted to catch up.
I soon found out why she was anxious to spend time with me. The groomsmen wore black cowboy hats, black tuxedos, bolo ties and black boots. Many other guys wore western wear to the wedding and reception. They were cowboys.
I figured Kathy being a city girl did not want to spend time with cowboys looking for a mate.
In their defense, Kathy was a good looking 20-year-old presumed single woman with a killer body. They wanted to try their luck getting a date with her. If I was one of them I would try the same thing.
As the reception line broke up I was eating wedding cake and drinking punch at a stand up cocktail table. Kathy made a bee line for me.
"It's been 5 years since you moved from Wichita. How have you been?"
"My dad got a job in Ponca City. It's a lot smaller than Wichita. Wichita offers more than Ponca City. I finished my second year at Oklahoma State. I love it there. I'm an elementary ed major. I really like my sorority. Life is good. And you?"
"I finished my second year at K-State. I'm a finance major. I joined the right fraternity for me, one that emphasizes grades, intramural sports and extracurricular activities. Everything is going great."
"I hope you don't mind me hanging around you. At the rehearsal dinner last night Ken's friends swarmed me. Don't get me wrong. They are nice guys, but I don't want to date and fall in love with a guy who lives on a ranch."
"Kathy, I'm happy to spend the evening with you."
Seconds later Ken's best man stopped at our table.
Before he could say anything Kathy spoke up. "Larry I'd like to introduce you to Matt Moore. We are friends from Wichita."
Kathy put her right arm around my waist. I put my left arm around hers.
Larry and I exchanged greetings and shook hands.
After a couple of minutes Larry moved on.
"Matt, see what I mean. These guys are looking for someone to take back to their ranch. That life's not for me."
"Kathy, I am with you the entire evening."
"Great. And thanks." There was relief in her voice and on her face.
"Can I trouble you to get me some cake and punch. I fear if I get refreshments on my own one of those guys will intercept me. Please leave your plate and cup here so no one gets the idea I am alone."
"My pleasure. I will be right back."
On my way back to our cocktail table a groomsman started chatting with Kathy.
When I got to the table Kathy immediately turned to me and said "Matt, I'd like you to meet Clay. Clay is Ken's neighbor in New Mexico."
On cue Kathy slid her right arm around my waist. I did the same to her with my left arm. Clay left after a couple of minutes.
"Whew, thanks so much for getting back here. Clay's a nice guy, but you know the story."
Over the next two hours 6 of Ken's groomsmen and friends stopped by to chat with Kathy. She made it clear to the potential beaus I was the one she was interested in. The best part is Kathy and I had no trouble talking. Conversing with Kathy was natural and easy.
During that time Cindy's Maid of Honor, Liz, who I knew from high school, joined us. She too was finished talking to cowboys looking to start a dating relationship with a city girl.
Coincidentally, Kathy was staying with Liz at Liz's parent's home.
As the reception wound down, I offered to take both to Liz's home. They jumped at the opportunity.
Kathy sat next to me in the passenger seat. Liz sat in the back.
Once we got to Liz's home's, she thanked me and quickly got out of my car.
Once the car door closed Kathy said "Matt, I so appreciate you spending time with me tonight shielding me from cowboy suitors. I really enjoyed talking to you."
"Kathy, I enjoyed the evening as well. Are you busy next Saturday evening?"
"No, I'm not." A smile appeared on Kathy's face.
"Will you go out with me?"
"I'd love to." Her smile got bigger.
"Great. I'll call you this week. Will Wednesday night around 7:00 work?"
"Yes!" We exchanged telephone numbers.
We chatted for a while longer. I sensed Kathy was tiring.
"To end the evening properly I must escort you to Liz's front door. Do you know Chivalry is my middle name?"
Kathy smiled. "I did not know that."
We got out of the car and walked side by side to Liz's front porch.
On the front porch Kathy said "Matt, thank so much for everything you did this evening."
She gave me a big hug smashing her bosom against my chest. Her boobs felt soft and big.
Kathy gave me a peck on the lips. She pulled her head back and gave me a full kiss on the lips. I pressed my lips onto hers.
After 10 seconds she pulled her head back.
"I've got to go inside."
She gave me another hug, looked back smiling and entered the house.
As I was driving home I kept thinking over and over again about how great the evening went. I was looking forward to next Saturday.
I called Kathy Wednesday evening. I suggested we see the re-release of "American Graffiti". She readily agreed. Afterwards we would go out for a beer.
Thursday and Friday crept by in anticipation of my first date with Kathy.
I had a bank teller job that summer. My workday was over at noon. Time could not fly by fast enough that afternoon.
My game plan was to leave Wichita at 5:00. That gave me 30 minutes wiggle room before showing up at her place at 7:00. The movie started at 7:30. I wore a medium blue Izod, tan shorts and topsiders.
Arriving in Ponca City at 6:30 gave me plenty of time to find the movie theatre and see whatever else there was in Ponca City.
Kathy met me at the door and we left for the movie. I did not meet her folks. Most girls I dated did not have me meet their folks the first date. She was wearing a light brown knit shirt with a hint of cleavage, a dark brown belt, white shorts and light brown flats.
We both enjoyed the movie. Watching the movie brought back memories of how well the music fit the scenes.
After the movie we went to a bar. Oklahoma was a 3.2% beer state, so I ordered a pitcher.
We chatted for an hour while downing the pitcher. We had a good time. The conversation between us remained easy and natural. No pregnant pauses. No running out of things to talk about.
By the time the pitcher was empty it was 10:00, time for me to drive back to Wichita.
I escorted Kathy to her front door. Before either of us said anything she gave me a firm lip lock. It lasted 20 seconds. Kathy pulled back and gave me a hug.
"Matt, I had great time with just you and me."
"I did too."
"By the way I'm visiting Liz next weekend. We have nothing planned Saturday evening. I'd love to go out with you next Saturday evening."
"Consider it a date." This was great. Kathy was good looking with a great body and she was traveling to see me for a date.
"I will call you noonish Saturday and we will make our plans."
Kathy replied. "I can't wait for next Saturday night!"
She walked inside her home and I started the drive to Wichita. Reliving the evening and anticipating next Saturday were reasons the drive home seemed quicker than 90 minutes.
The week dragged by in anticipation of our date, but not as slowly as the prior week.
I called Kathy Saturday at 12:15 after I got off work.
We were going to dine at Scotch and Sirloin, one of the better restaurants in Wichita. I wanted to make a great impression on our first date. We would see a movie later.
Everything went well that evening. Once again, we did not run out of things to talk about. The good night kiss was great.
We made a date to go out next Saturday in Ponca City. We made the same plans. Go to a movie and go out for a beer. However, she wanted me to meet her parents first.
I had no problem meeting her parents. I liked meeting new people. I always smiled when meeting parents, called them Mr. and Mrs. whatever and gave the father a firm handshake. It worked.
Wednesday evening I called Kathy to make plans. We chatted 15 minutes. Long distance calling rates were high in those days, so we did not talk long. This was the beginning of our Wednesday night telephone calls.
I called Cindy for information regarding Kathy's parents. All Cindy knew about Mr. Fox was he was doing well in the oil business. The oil business was booming in those days, the late 1970s. Cindy said Mrs. Fox was very nice and was a homemaker taking care of Kathy and her 2 younger brothers.
I arrived at Kathy's house 30 minutes before the movie started. Her folks were cordial. We chatted for a bit. Her brothers were in the background. I lowered right hand and gave them a wave. They smiled and left. After a few minutes Kathy and I left for the movie.
As we were walking to my car I asked, "How did I do?"
"You did great." Kathy's right hand gripped my left. Her head tilted and rested on my shoulder as we walked to the car. I wonder if her parents saw that.
After the movie we went to the same bar. I ordered a pitcher.
