Jenna sat staring out of the window. The divorce had been finalized a week ago, but it still seemed unreal. She had returned home one evening to find James waiting for her, the papers already drawn up. She just had to sign.
"Why? Why, James?" she had begged him for an answer.
In reply he just said that he had grown tired of her, and that she wasn't exciting him anymore. Even after pleading him to change his mind, promising to change, to mold herself into someone that he could love again, he just coldly informed her that she would get the house, the car and a sizeable amount of money.
It was only afterwards when she found out he had been sleeping with his 21 year old secretary that she understood. She had been traded in for a younger model. His affair had been going on for much longer than her and her mystery lover. She still struggled to believe it. At 28 she wasn't THAT old.
She started sobbing again, her cries echoing through the empty house. It still had all the furniture, but now it seemed cold and loveless, devoid of human warmth. She felt so alone and confused. As if she were the last person on the planet.
Suddenly gentle arms wrapped around her from behind. She caught his scent just before she screamed, and slumped backwards into his embrace. She wanted to yell at him, scream at him, take all of her frustration out on him, but she didn't have the strength. So she just let him hold her.
Eventually she turned around in his embrace and realized with a shock that this was the first time ever she had seen his face in the light. He was ruggedly handsome, with piercing brown eyes, dark hair and slight stubble on his chin. There was something vaguely familiar about him, but she couldn't place it. He was powerfully built and was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.
"Hi Jenna", he said in a gentle voice. "I heard what happened. I'm so sorry, I know you loved James."
"If you knew that, why did you come to me? Why did you seduce me? And more importantly, how did you keep finding me?" she asked in a soft voice.
She wanted to scream it at him, but at the same time she felt so glad to see him.
