Chapter 8 Going camping
Friday Evening Week Two:
It was less than two and half hours to the campground that we were going to.
As soon as the girls settled into the captains chairs with Kala beside me and Kenz behind her. They took selfies of the two of them and positioned themselves to get pictures of me and them in the RV. They both texted their friends with the pics included. We talked about our day for about a half an hour, then they began to explore the RV and all of it's features. They were like two kids in a candy store giggling and showing each other what they had discovered.
About an hour into the drive they grabbed us each a snack and a drink. And sat back down in the captains chairs asking a thousand questions, at least it seemed that many. They asked how hard it was to drive the RV and if they would be allowed to drive it.
"At some point if we can find an empty parking lot, I'll let each of you drive it around to start to get a feel for how it handles. It is much bigger than a car and has a lot of blind spots. It takes some getting used to in judging distances to things that you may lose site of in maneuvering. I said.
Kenz asked, "How can you drive it so well since you just got it?"
"Good question, I have driven the farm tractor trailer, combines and other farm equipment for over 10 years. Believe me I have had my share of close calls and minor bumps when getting started driving them. Dad started Lance and I driving the riding mower around the yard at the age of 10 and mowing at 11. He had us in a tractor seat as soon as we could reach and push the clutch in all the way." I said.
With all of the questions and answers, it seemed like no time and we were at the river at Cave In Rock.
I started down the highway toward the river and stopped at the edge. The girls freaked out.
"There's no bridge to cross the river!" Kenz squealed.
"Um, How are we going to get there now?" asked Kala.
"You see that boat approaching?" I said. "We are going to drive on it and take it across."
"No way." Kenz stated.
"Yes way." I said.
"Have you two never been on the ferry before?' I asked.
"No, never that I can remember." Kala said.
In about 10 minutes the ferry docked and the cars drove off. I started the RV and pulled onto the ferry and their eyes went wide as they felt it settle in the water with the weight of the RV and the other two cars that followed us on.
"Oh, this is cool." Kala said as the ferry cast off from the dock.
I put the RV in park, shut it off and set the parking brakes and started to get out.
"Wh..Where are you going?" Kala said with wide eyes.
"Thought I'd get out and get some fresh air. Come on."
They both unfastened their seat belts and opened the passenger door and stepped out onto the deck.
Both of their phones came out as did mine to take some pictures.
We got to the Kentucky side and drove off headed to the lakes and the campground.
-----
Since we got there on Friday night instead of early Saturday morning like many would. We were able to get a nice spot overlooking the lake and a little privacy. I unloaded their car from the dolly and then maneuvered the dolly and RV backing it into the spot. I had the hookups for water, sewage and electricity connected in about 15 minutes showing both the girls how to do it in case this was going to be a regular occurrence with them.
I also showed them how to start and stop the generator as well as how to deploy the pop-outs and use the leveling features of the RV. They seemed intent on learning every aspect of the RV.
About Seven, I said, "Let's go back up the road to the dinner and get some supper. We'll start cooking in the morning with breakfast.
We headed out and had a nice supper then walked across the parking lot to the outlet mall. The girls found more clothes to buy with some of the money that I had repaid them for leaving their Fifteen Hundred in their mother's fire safe this morning.
