Kim (34) returned to her mother's house after her father died just for the love of her younger brother, Jason (20)
Despite the big age difference between them, the two have always been very close. Anyone could imagine that, because she was forced to take care of him while her parents worked or simply decided to go out on a romantic night out (coming home two days later), some form of resentment could have formed in her heart.
Nothing even close to that ever happened.
The only thing that existed between the two was love. She loved him from the first time she saw him in the hospital and loved him even more with each passing day. He took care of her as she took care of him.
Kim's boyfriend had once cheated on her and, when confronted, he reacted violently towards her. Jason hit him a lot, only stopping when his friends thought he had beaten him enough.
It was on that day that Kim fell in love.
She left home the moment she realized that the feelings she had for her brother, a handsome young man with black hair and in his prime 18 years old, were far from being just fraternal. She knew she had hurt him, but she also knew that if she listened to the forbidden feelings she had developed over the years, the damage would be much worse.
Over time, she ended up marrying a co-worker. She didn't love him; never loved him. What she had for him was great respect and also consideration for the love he said he had for her. Even though the couple's sex life wasn't exactly satisfactory for her, Kim was faithful.
But he wasn't.
Kim discovered her husband's cheating at a time when the two were having conversations about expanding their family. She discovered that he had sex with at least ten different women and she immediately filed for divorce.
She lived for two months at her best friend's house, but returned to her mother's house a few days after the funeral of her father, who died of a heart attack at the age of 56. They weren't particularly close (they never were, honestly), but she knew Jason missed him.
It had been exactly two months since she lost her father. Kim and her younger brother (20) were home alone. Their mother, Olivia, was at their aunt's house or at work...Anyway, Kim didn't care about that or
for anything she does.
She knocked on Jason's bedroom door.
"Jason, it's Kim. Your beautiful older sister. Can I come in?"
Kim's younger brother unlocked the bedroom door and let her in. He looked terrible, visibly exhausted.
"He must have spent the whole night playing video games," thought Kim. She knew that her brother had a habit of losing track of time whenever he played a new Disgaea.
They were sitting on the bed. Kim needed to have a very serious talk with him.
"Life may be hard right now, but I'm here for you," she said, gently brushing away a black strand of hair that covered his eye.
His father's death wasn't the only thing that was tormenting Jason.
The boy had been having romantic problems since his first girlfriend decided to study in Europe. They knew how difficult it was to maintain a long-distance relationship and, even though they had complete trust in each other, they decided that the best option was to end the relationship.
What came next, a 42-year-old doctor, caused even more damage to the boy. They dated for six months, until she suddenly chose to stop cheating on her husband. Weeks later, she revealed to co-workers that she was pregnant.
Given the fact that the couple's sex life was non-existent, the child was probably Jason's. But if her brother hadn't associated the facts, she wouldn't be the one to reveal the information.
He definitely didn't need a child at 20 years old. From what little she knew about April, she knew that his brother's ex thought the same way.
"I know, sister. You were there when I needed you," he hugged her tightly, but didn't cry. He are the kind of guy who never used to cry.
Kim put him to sleep on her lap and spent some time stroking his straight hair. He had grown a lot. Now, he was no longer the little boy who always ran after her, but a real man.
She loved him, but she believed she had outgrown the kind of forbidden love that had grown in her heart.
She was wrong.
After a hot shower, Kim was walking around the house in just a towel. She had her hand on the doorknob of her room when a strange idea occurred to her. The woman went downstairs and went to the living room, where her younger brother (20) was watching some western series from the 50s or 60s.
"Hey, sis. Want to watch TV with me?" he questioned when he noticed her presence.
"I do, but not that old stuff," she joked, knowing he wouldn't be offended.
"Shut up and sit here," he said good-naturedly.
