Tom had worked on his parents remote farm in the Lake District all his life. He was 29 when he first met Sally. She was 19 and was on a work placement during her first year at agricultural college. She was an only child and her parents owned a large farm and stud in Berkshire.

Tom hoped in someway that Sarah would say no but he could not deny that as he had become more used to the idea he hoped Sarah would say yes.
