The day had finally arrived, a very special day for James and Lily's parents.
They had been waiting to throw a party in honor of their marriage status for a very long time; they had been married for so many years now, and it was finally the right time for their first celebration together.
They had arranged the whole ordeal for weeks, even months, and it was safe to say all the planning that went into it had paid off.
The house was spotless, everything was sparkling, and there were fresh flowers everywhere you looked. The decorations were beautiful, with plants of all types, a couple of vases filled the living room area, some of them in the kitchen as well. The interior smelled like freshly baked cookies, a delicious aroma permeating throughout the whole place.
On the patio terrace, a setup of tables, chairs, and a set of speakers was set up, ready for whatever music choice was required later.
In a few hours, the guests would start coming into the house, so all that was left were minor details that could have gone unnoticed.
Through this whole ordeal, James and Lily, their son and daughter, seemed pretty unphased at this whole situation. They acted as if the whole situation was nothing special, they were used to their parents being overly enthusiastic about their engagement. So they agreed with their parents to come downstairs for a while after the whole party was set. Not wanting to spend much time having to put up with the stories of friends and family.
James found himself upstairs, in his room, trying on a few different outfits that his mother had selected for him. None of them matched his style, but he agreed to wear one of them just for the sake of appearances. He went with a dark formal suit that made him look as if he were a very important businessman.
Lily, meanwhile, had been going through her closet, which contained more dresses than she cared to count. The only thing that really stood out from the rest of the clothes was the sheer number of dresses that she had that she hadn't worn even once.
"Sigh, maybe one day" - she said to herself in a bored tone.
She had tried a few of the outfits, but she didn't seem especially impressed by any of them. So she put all the dresses back in their respective places and decided it would be better to try something new.
That's when she spotted a blue pleated skirt that matched the color of her panties. So she chose it, then added to the combination a simple beige off-the-shoulder top.
"Simple, but it'll do", she said to herself.
All that was left was to apply her makeup, and she would be ready.
About an hour later, the house began to fill with guests coming in. Some were dressed casually, while others were in very fancy attire. James, who was still in his room, heard the chattering noise that came from outside. In the next thirty minutes, it seemed like most of the guests had already shown up at the house. Most of them were sitting around the tables and enjoying the delicious food and drinks that were served to each person. Others were standing in groups, talking with their companions, and looking around the whole area of the house. The atmosphere was warm and friendly.
Another hour later, the music started blasting through the speakers, a bit loud at first, then adjusting to the volume of the crowd. Once past that point, the party had begun, and everyone began cheering and dancing, enjoying the moment of happiness and joy that the occasion brought.
Soon enough, the evening turned from a nice party into a wild night full of alcohol and fun. All the guests had been given a glass or two of wine beforehand and were feeling quite happy with themselves.
Just a few minutes later, James and Lily exited their rooms, pretty much at the same time, both wearing their chosen outfit. Neither of them were particularly happy about it, but there they were anyway. Lily exited the room and found James in the hallway, approaching the stairs. He stopped before reaching them upon seeing his sister walking in the same direction.
James looked at his sister and had a sudden thought in his mind, he had never seen her with such looks, and that made him blush a little.
"Wow! What is it that you're wearing? I didn't even think you wore those kinds of outfits," - James asked her as she approached the stairs where he was standing.
She looked up at him with a confused look on her face.
"What? Oh, I was just going to ask you... where did you find that suit?" - Lily asked him, pointing at his clothing style.
Well, I have it for special occasions, just like you, I assume," - He replied.
"Yeah, kind of," - Lily responded in a small voice. She was aware of how unusual her outfit was, as she had never worn it.
"D-Do you think I look pretty?" - Lily suddenly asked, blushing slightly as she spoke.
"Uh? You mean..? yeah... you look absolutely beautiful..." - He answered, almost not knowing what else to say.
He was completely mesmerized by her appearance, and he knew he couldn't lie even if he tried. Lily looked absolutely stunning tonight.
His eyes darted slowly at her dress, then up again.
Upon returning his view to his normal stance, he locked eyes with his sister as they embraced in a glance that lasted a few seconds. Without uttering a single word.
He noticed how she was blushing, and he felt his heart skip a beat as he realized that his feelings towards his sister may have developed more than usual. He wasn't sure about it yet, but he was definitely starting to develop something he couldn't explain.
Was it just because of the moment? His mind raced through a million thoughts at once. But he pushed these thoughts aside in favor of focusing more on the present. He needed to calm down if he wanted to make sure everything was okay between them. He needed to stay focused and be rational. She was his sister.
"We should go downstairs, mom and dad are waiting for us" - James said, breaking eye contact, looking away from her.
"Yeah, let's go" - Lily replied after a short pause.
James and Lily walked down the staircase side by side, at a slow pace, neither of them saying a word. As soon as they reached halfway down the steps, Lily looked slightly to the side, finding her brother's eyes, locking together for a brief second.
They continued on, taking smaller, slower steps without saying a word. When they were almost at the bottom, Lily froze suddenly, and consequently, her brother stopped dead in his tracks too.
"What's wrong, Lily?" - He asked worriedly.
"It's just that..." - She mumbled.
