A few weeks after Cath's sister Penny's visit, Jenny and her Aunt were having a Saturday breakfast at Frankie's cafe.
"You got anything on today?" Cath asked. Jenny nodded;
"I'm going to spend a couple of hours at the library. I need to brush up for a class next week."
"Okay. What d'you want to eat tonight?" Cath asked.
"You?" Jenny replied, innocently. Cath screwed up her eyes, pretending to be angry and adopting a New York accent;
"Why I ougtha..." They both burst out laughing.
"No one's allowed to laugh in my cafe without telling me what's funny," said Frankie as she wiped down the table next to them.
"Junior here thinks she's funny," Cath said, winking at Jenny.
"And is she?" Frankie said, still wiping the table.
"That depends on if you have a dirty sense of humour," Cath replied. Frankie began to laugh and soon all three of them were crying with laughter. Frankie stood by their table as the laughter finally subsided.
"Do you guys have any plans for tonight?" Frankie asked.
"Not yet," Cath said.
"Good," Frankie replied, "why don't you come over for dinner? I've got a friend staying for the weekend and it'd be nice to have some company. I'm cooking a big pan of pasta; how's that sound?" Cath and Jenny looked at each other and nodded;
"Sounds perfect," Cath said, "we'll bring some wine."
"Done. See you around 7? Cath asked.
"Great," Cath replied. Frankie went off to serve a customer.
"Well that solves that," Jenny said. "Does Frankie live far?"
"Nah," Cath replied, "she's the other side of the pier; five minutes walk."
They finished their breakfast and waved to Frankie as they left,
"See you later, girls," Frankie called after them.
Jenny drove up to the university library and settled down at a desk. The place was almost deserted; no great surprise on a Saturday; and Jenny went to get the two books she needed to study. The only other desk was occupied by a girl who had a pile of books and a laptop. She was facing Jenny and the two desks in between them had been removed; Jenny could see them up against a wall with books piled up on them. Jenny put her two books on her desk and got her workbook out of her bag. Before she started work she decided that she needed a coffee. There was a vending machine in the hallway so she walked past the girl to get to it.
"Hi," said the girl as Jenny passed her desk.
"Oh, hi," Jenny replied. She stopped. The girl was very pretty with short, blonde hair. She was wearing a t-shirt and as she swivelled her chair, Jenny could see she also had on a blue pleated miniskirt and Doc Martens boots. The girl smiled up at Jenny,
"Don't normally get anyone else here on a Saturday; it's usually just me, until we get close to exams," she said.
"I'm just doing a bit of research for a class next week," Jenny said.
"Wow, you must enjoy your course then?" said the girl, smiling.
"I do. It's my first term and I want to do well," Jenny replied.
"A Fresher? Now you really do stick out. Most first years just want to get drunk and screw," said the girl, grinning. Jenny grinned back.
"I was just going to get a coffee; d'you want one?" Jenny asked.
"From the machine?" the girl asked, "it's foul stuff but beggars can't be choosers; white no sugar please."
Jenny came back with two plastic cups of coffee and put one on the girl's desk.
"Thanks; I'm Karen by the way."
"Jenny; nice to meet you, Karen," Jenny said, heading back to her desk.
She started working through the first book, taking notes in her workbook and using the second book to cross-reference the information. As usual, she was engrossed in her studies but she did look up to check on Karen every once in a while. The first time, the girl was walking towards the door marked Toilet. Jenny watched her walking away from her. The DM's gave her a great arse-wiggle and her little pleated skirt swung with it. Jenny smiled to herself and returned to her studies.
Half an hour later, Jenny looked up again. Karen was writing, her head down, concentrating on her notebook; but that wasn't what got Jenny's attention. She looked carefully below the desk down the room. Karen's legs were wide open and to Jenny's eyes, she wasn't wearing any knickers. After a few seconds, Jenny looked back down at her books so missed Karen looking up and smiling.
Jenny felt that she had done enough; she had gone through both books thoroughly and filled several pages in her workbook; she felt that she had a good understanding of the subject. She began to pack up and then returned the books to their shelves. She picked up her bag and walked over to Karen's desk.
"Right, I'm off," Jenny said. Karen swivelled her chair around to face Jenny again. She crossed her legs and smiled;
"Okay; it was nice to meet you," Karen said, "and thanks for the coffee."
