Several of you may have read this recently. This is a story I wrote over a year ago, sent it to an editor, and things didn't go all that well. Can we just say, it fell by the wayside. I found it lurking in an old email, and figured what the heck might as well post it. That was a week ago, posted it without rereading it. Well, there were some huge mistakes, doubled pages, missing content, it was a mess. However, the story did garnish decent reviews, thanks to sirwoodcutter, Spyder23, Brett78x among other for their kind words. I pulled it, edited the glaring mistakes, and here it is once again for your reading enjoyment.
Que Sera, Sera
Darlene was 25 years old a five foot four tall bundle of energy. Her shoulder length straight blond hair framed her face in such a manner that she oozed sexy, not slut sexy just sexy, her deep brown eyes, with her smile that could make you feel like you had won the lottery. Her breasts were on the smaller side, however her legs and ass more that made up for any deficiencies.
Her brother Daniel, was 23 years old. Standing at five foot seven, was a handsome guy with a light muscular build and dark hair that curled slightly at the ends.
It was 10 pm, on a Friday night a time that was a bit early for Darlene to be home from a date, trying to make things work with the wrong guys. She was upset as she burst into Daniel's room without knocking.
"I don't get it, Daniel," she said, her voice thick with frustration. "What's wrong with me?"
Daniel looked up from his studying, his brows furrowed with concern. He could see the sadness in his sister's eyes. "Nothing, you're amazing, Darlene," he said, setting the device aside and moving closer to comfort her. "Guys are just idiots."
"Thanks," she replied with a forced smile, plopping down onto his bed.
Darlene sighed, looking down at her hands. she murmured. "I go on these dates, I try to be myself, but they always seem to want something more, something different, and I never want to see them again much less date them. Hell most of them I should never have gone on a first date with."
Daniel sat beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's not you, sis," he said firmly. "You're, beautiful, smart, and funny. You just haven't found the right one yet."
"Darlene asked wondering, "Why won't you date the same girl twice? I know most of the girls you date, always say how much fun they have, but you won't go on a second date with any of them. Why Daniel?"
"Well, I don't want to get tied down, look what happened to Mike, two years ago he went on three dates with Jane, and now they are expecting their second child. and he is the same age as me. I do not want that. Hell I can't even look after myself let alone a child." Daniel ranted.
It was Darlene's turn to rant "Every guy I date, I won't date again, first there was Mike, in grade 11, he tried to kiss me, I wouldn't let him, then he told everyone we had sex. We only went on one fucking date. I certainly wasn't going to sleep with him on the first date. I hated him for that, still do. Then there was Alex, we went to a party, he got so drunk I had to drive him home, and his dad drove me home, and Jerry, he wouldn't keep his hands to himself, he kept trying to feel me up, put his hands down my pants. The list goes on, and on, then tonight, I go out with John, not only did he talk about himself, and his prior exploits, he had such bad breath, when he tried to kiss me, I gagged, almost puked, it was so bad. Every guy I go out with, is is" Darlene ranted.
"OK, OK, I get it!" Daniel exclaimed. "But Mike did apologize if I remember right."
"Yes he did," Darlene smiled, "only cause you broke his nose, then hit him with a stick breaking his ribs. You both got expelled for what was it two weeks, and you got grounded for a month." Darlene stated as she looked at Daniel with admiration.
"I didn't hit him with a stick, I just punched him, he was telling everyone you slept with him, I knew you wouldn't do that. So I found him behind the gym, where he hides to smoke. When I saw him there, the first thing he yelled was "Hey Dan your sisters a pretty good piece of ass." so I hit him in the ribs, then again in the face, I cant help it if he has a big nose. But even though I got grounded dad bought me a new PlayStation console. I think, mom and dad were happy, they just couldn't admit it openly." Daniel stated rather proudly
"All the girls you date keep asking me to talk to you, get you to go on a second date with them." Darlene echoed once again.
"Well maybe you should go out on a date with me then." Daniel jokingly told her.
Feeling much better Darlene stood to leave the bedroom turning around just before she exited, saying, "What good would it do, you wouldn't go out with me twice." then quietly closed the door.
Darlene had a shower, in their joining bathroom, then went to bed wondering what it would be like to date her brother.
The following night Saturday, Darlene was home even earlier, it was barely past 9pm. She stomped to her bedroom slamming her door, which resulted in a stern warning from her parents, and a sorry from her.
Daniel heard her door slam, checking the time, he went through the joining bathroom to see what had went wrong on her date.
Darlene replayed the date to Daniel. They went and got burgers. John seemed to be very nice they talked about each other, their families, all was going good. Then they went to a party John put their names on the list for one of the bedrooms. Darlene just left when she saw the list, with her name beside her dates. Good thing Janet had told her about it, so Darlene could get out of there without making a scene.
Daniel asked her if she wanted him to break his nose for her, she giggled, replying "No."
Daniel replied indignantly "Hey, dad would probably buy me a new laptop. Just one punch I promise"
Darlene giggled rolling over on her bed, she looked him in the eyes, asking him, "Do you want to go on a date with me?"
Daniel blushed, replying, "Don't be silly we are brother and sister, we can't go on a date." with that he left the room, to lay on his bed.
Daniel kept thinking about Darlene's question, what would a date with her be like, could he, should he. Daniel fell asleep in turmoil.
Meanwhile, Darlene was thinking the exact same thing, what would it be like, would he ask, would she accept, should they.
Tuesday after classes Darlene found Daniel, in his bedroom, dropping beside him, she stated, "About that date idea, I wanna try it?"
"I was only joking, we cant go on a date its not right." Daniel remarked
"So, I want to go on a date with you." replied Darlene
"Nope, not going to happen. Now get out of here." Daniel said
Darlene, begrudgingly got up and went to her room.
Daniel had spend most of the day thinking about and even dreamt about going on a date with his sister.
Thursday, after classes, Daniel, found himself outside Darlene's bedroom door, he gently knocked and opened the door when she said come in.
He sat on her bed, fidgeting with his hands, nervously saying to Darlene, "I was thinking about this date think and how it might work. First you are Sara, and I am Mathew, if we go on a date, we have to call each other by our middle name. Second thing is, I choose everything and I will pay for it all to. And lastly there is only going to be one date, well that's not the last. The last thing is, we have to pretend that we barely know each other, so we start from the beginning, just like a real first date would be."
Darlene replied excitedly, "When are we going."
"I don't think Mathew has asked Sara yet has he?" Daniel replied questioningly.
"No, no he hasn't, do you think he is going to." replied Darlene getting more excited.
"I cant talk for him, I don't know, him very well." Daniel said as he stood and walked through the bathroom to his room.
Darlene was on pins and needles all day Friday, then came Saturday, again nothing, Sunday came and went, again nothing.
On Monday, at lunch in the cafeteria Daniel was in his corner sitting alone doing some home work, like always.
Darlene walked up to him, she was going to ask him what the problem was. He looked up as she stood over him,
"Oh, Hi Sara, care to have a seat, I'm Mathew by the way, I think your in my sister Darlene's physics class." Daniel chimed in an eager but nervous voice, like it was well rehearsed.
Darlene stumble, "Hi Mathew, can I call you Matt, your sister Darlene, yes I think we are in physics together, failing physics together is more like it though." Sara shyly said.
"Matt is fine, how are your classes doing." Daniel said once again sounding rehearsed.
