Piper lived alone with her dad. Her mum had walked out on them when she turned 12, and they never heard from her again. Although she was told it wasn't her fault, Piper found it hard not to blame herself.
She heard stories of how happy her mum and dad were when they were together, other than when they separated for a year, but this was 2 or 3 years before Piper was born. Even after that, Piper heard that they were madly in love.
Then her mum seemed to turn miserable after Piper arrived. Piper's memories of her mum were cold, unloving, and uncaring.
Piper was a small girl that had only just turned 18. She was thin with perky C cup boobs and a firm, slightly curvy arse. She had long blonde hair that was always straightened, and she wore large glasses over her blue eyes.
It was Piper's last week of school, and then she would have six weeks off before going to University, which was something that worried Piper.
She had never been a sociable girl, always staying in and worrying over her mother, and due to this, she never made any friends.
Every lunch break Piper was in the library, eating a homemade sandwich on her own and reading a book.
She had just finished the latest fantasy novel that she was going through when a few girls walked past. One of them nudged her arm and made Piper drop her sandwich. As she looked up the girls didn't even turn around.
"Sorry." Piper whispered, but they didn't hear her.
Picking her sandwich back up, she threw it into the bin and finished eating her apple.
After lunch ended, she went to class where she sat on the front row. When the teacher asked a question, she put her hand up but never got picked.
And that was Piper. The shy, nerd that was a ghost to nearly everyone. Everyone, except her dad.
--
"Hello?" Her dad shouted as Piper returned home.
She was wearing her green skirt, white shirt, and thigh high cotton socks, as was the uniform, with a backpack on her back.
"Hey," Piper said back as she took off her shoes and met her dad in the living room, "you're home early?"
"Quiet day." Her dad replied with a cup of tea in his hands.
Her Dad, John, worked as a bricklayer. Money had always been tough since Piper's Mum left and they went to a one income household, which meant her Dad worked as many hours as possible.
"How was school?" Her dad asked. "Nearly all done?"
"Good," Piper told him, and meant it. "I got an A in my final test."
"Hey, look at you," Her dad said and pulled her in for a big hug. He was nearly twice the size of his daughter and extremely well built. "My little genius."
"Want me to get dinner started?" Piper asked as they broke the hug.
"No, no," He said, "I'm home early. You relax, and I'll cook."
He rubbed the top of Piper's head and smiled through his stubble beard.
"Thanks, Daddy." Piper said and threw herself onto the sofa before opening her book again.
"You read too many of those." Her dad joked as he picked up an empty plate.
"You know most parents want their kids to read more." Piper jokingly replied.
"Most parents don't have a rocket scientist as a daughter." He joked back.
Piper blushed at the comment and smiled from ear to ear as she read through her book. After reading for a while her dad reappeared with two full plates of food.
"Dinner's ready." He said with a kind smile.
The young girl closed her book, jumped up, and joined her dad at the dinner table.
"So, not long until you go to University." Her dad said as they started eating.
"I know. Are you gonna be okay without me?" She asked him.
Her dad chuckled as he finished his mouthful of food.
"Definitely. I might get some peace and quiet without your partying and loud music." He joked and tapped her foot under the table.
Piper laughed back, knowing how ridiculous it was that Piper would even attend a party, never mind host one. But she didn't care. Parties weren't for her.
"And I might get some sleep without your loud snoring shaking the entire house!" Piper mocked back.
"Cheeky!" John replied. "Who knows, you might meet a man at Uni who snores louder than me!"
"God, kill me now if that's the case," Piper joked. "I doubt I'll meet a guy."
Piper lowered her head. she wasn't embarrassed about never having any sort of male relationship, but more upset. Piper always wanted a boyfriend, someone that matched her personality that she could hang out with and talk to.
Her dad was the only person Piper had to talk to. She loved her dad with all her heart, but unfortunately due to laws and social conduct, he couldn't fill that romantic hole in her heart.
"You'll be fighting them off," John told her. "You're pretty, a genius, and have an amazing family. What guy wouldn't want you?"
Piper's cheeks blushed at her dad's comments and looked to the ground in embarrassment.
"I don't think I'll be able to find any man that lives up to you though," Piper told him. "You've set the bar pretty high for men in my life."
"That's true," He joked back. "I am pretty perfect."
The father and daughter continued to chat and laugh throughout their dinner until they finished.
"You get settled on the sofa, and I'll clean this up." Her dad said and stood up.
"No, you cooked, so I'll clean." Piper told him with a smile.
"How did I raise such a perfect kid." John replied and let Piper clean up.
She washed the dishes and the pans, dried them, and put them away before going back into the living room, where her dad was already on the two person sofa with a blanket over him.
He pulled the blanket up and tapped the cushion next to him.
With a smile Piper sat down next to her dad and pulled the blanket over her. It was only a small sofa so their legs pressed together, but Piper didn't mind. She was used to it.
"What episode are we on?" John asked.
"Erm, five, I think." Piper told him.
John put on the episode, which they watched until going to bed separately.
--
Piper was walking home from school. It was the same old day of lessons and barely speaking to anyone. With a hand on each strap of her backpack she walked down a small road. In front of her were four girls, and they were all in her year but never spoke to her.
Can they even see me?
Piper thought as they didn't appear to be moving to make room for her.
"Urgh!" Piper grunted as one of them walked straight into her, forcing Piper to fall to the ground.
"Watch where you're going." The one that walked into Piper barked.
"S-sorry." Piper stuttered back, her hands on the ground as she looked up at the four girls.
"Oi!" A voice came from behind.
Still on the floor, Piper turned her head and saw a girl she didn't recognise.
She looked older than Piper, but not by much. She had short brunette hair that fell just below her shoulders. She was also taller than Piper and a little thicker, too. She had on a black vest which did nothing to hide what seemed to be a large chest. On her bottoms she had on very short, denim shorts with frayed ends. Finally she had on black trainers.
Her face was pretty yet slightly rugged. She had red lipstick on and misty eyes.
"You just walked into her," The strange girl shouted and marched over. "You owe her an apology."
The four other girls laughed as the main one turned to this new person.
"Didn't you hear her apologise to me?" She said. "She knew she was in the wrong."
Piper remained on the floor. She wanted to melt into the concrete and disappear. She had always stayed as far away from confrontation as much as possible.
"I just watched it happen. You all took up the entire foot path and walked straight into her," The brunette girl told them. "Apologise, now."
