"Aunt Peg! This isn't good enough!" I slammed my hand down onto the table, shaking my head.
My aunt had always been into 'living life on the wild side', but this time she had really done it.
She lives with my mother and I and lately she has been behaving rather strangely.
My mother, Kay was not best impressed with her latest confession either.
"Kay, tell her that she's delusional."
"I'm not telling my daughter anything of the sort. You must admit Peg, it's a bit extreme, even for you."
Peg huffed, grabbing her handbag as she made her way out of the house.
"What time will you be back?" I asked her interestedly.
"Don't know sweet. Be a good girl" she smiled and kissed me on the cheek before leaving, slamming the front door behind her.
My mother sighed. "You know what she's like when she gets an idea in her head. Can't stop her."
She carried on doing the dishes.
My Aunt Peg had just gone to meet her new lover. However, this new lover was a few decades or so younger than her. She told us because we wondered why she couldn't stay to see the rest of the family who were visiting. I didn't really mind, I was just thinking about what on earth she was going to do to this poor young boy. Now don't get me wrong, my Aunt Peg is HOT and I'm sure she could have anyone she wanted, but the idea of her with some guy just out of high school was a little bizarre for me and I had told her so when she asked me what I thought of it all. I just didn't think he would be good enough for her, but I didn't tell HER that. She might think things.
There was a knock on the door and I went to open it.
"Hi, can I come in?"
I scowled. It was my mother's new lover and I didn't like him. I thought he was a creep. I didn't answer and we just stared at each other for a moment.
"Gary!" My mother came down the hall. "Annie! Why didn't you let him in? You know better than to leave nice men on the doorstep. I'm sorry Gary."
"Kay, I wondered if I could pop round for a bit..." he shifted from one foot to the other anxiously.
"Sure! Annie, for goodness sake let him in, stop standing there" my mother criticised me, putting her hand on my shoulder and gently prodding me.
"Sorry" I mumbled, feeling rather shy all of a sudden. Gary smiled at me and I stared at my mother, purposefully ignoring him. My mother was absolutely beautiful and what on earth she was doing with him I didn't know.
We went through and sat down in the living room.
"I'll make some tea. You two can get better acquainted" my mother said, looking pointedly at me before she left the room. Gary looked at me.
"So, what are you up to young lady? Where's your boyfriend..." he put his hand upon my thigh which I pushed away.
"I happen to have just broken up with my girlfriend, not that it's any of your business. If you touch me again I'll kill you. Understand?"
"Hey, I was just trying to be nice" he protested.
"Nice doesn't cut it, Gary" I spat. "I'm leaving. I'm not staying around to watch you paw my mother." I stood up.
"It's not like that, Annie."
"Oh don't worry Gary, if I can dish the dirt on you, you will be out the door very soon, just you wait!" I lit a cigarette and grabbed my bag.
"Annie, where are you going?" My mother asked exasperatedly.
"Just out, I'll leave you and Gary in peace" I opened the front door.
"Annie..." I heard her call before I shut the front door, breathing a sigh of relief. Thank god that was over. I couldn't stand being around that guy. My Mum turned into a completely different person around him.
I walked into town and on my way to the grocery store I suddenly stopped in disbelief.
There Aunt Peg was, with a young man in tow.
I hopped behind a parked car so that she wouldn't see me and moved closer to get a better look.
They were up against the side of her car and she had hold of the front of his shirt, pulling him closer. For some reason I felt a little jealous. That guy probably didn't know what had hit him. I wished, in a funny way, that it was me instead...
Peg turned and looked in my direction and I ducked, praying that she hadn't seen me. I heard a car speed away and when I peered back round from behind the car they were gone.
I decided against going grocery shopping and instead wandered round to my friend Seka's. I rang the doorbell to be greeted with her presence as she opened the front door.
"Oh, hi!" She enveloped me in a hug, smiling.
"Hey Seka, I just wondered if you were around..."
I lit up another cigarette and passed her one.
She smiled. "Come in."
I wandered into the hall and took off my shoes, pausing to take a drag off my cigarette. I walked to Seka's room and we sat down on her bed. She brushed her curled hair out while I talked to her about everything that had been happening at work lately and about how my Aunt was acting.
"It's just a bit strange, Seka. I don't know what to think about it."
She shrugged. "What's the problem?"
"I don't like it."
She sighed and breathed out thick, creamy smoke. "Yeah, you and the rest of the family. Once you finally get around to hitting on her then maybe you'll be able to get her to leave him alone."
I sat up and looked at her sharply. "What on earth do you mean?"
"Oh come on, Annie you talk as if you fancy her."
"She's my Aunt!"
She ruffled my hair playfully. "You can tell me, you know. I wouldn't judge you for it. Your Aunt is hot!"
