"So, uh..."
I looked over at Jake, watching him quietly. Ever since we got close to the apartment, he'd been acting... strange. Almost anxious. I'd started feeling self-conscious, after all we did just have very exuberant sex in a parking lot together, and here I was sitting naked in his truck. Fortunately it was late enough at night that nobody was out to see me, but I still felt uncomfortable; it didn't help that we hadn't moved to go inside since we got here nearly half an hour ago.
"Don't laugh, ok?"
I nearly laughed out of sheer awkwardness as he said that, but I kept it reined in. "Don't worry, I won't," I promised him.
Jake nodded and took a deep breath, seemingly to resolve or bolster himself. "Well," he said, trailing off. "Want to head in?"
"Yeah, that'd be great, I'm feeling pretty tired." I snuck a glance at the vibrator on the dash of the car. I really didn't want to be holding that while we hurried back inside, but it couldn't be left out here. I bundled it up in my dress, committing to washing them both as soon as humanly possible... after some sleep, of course.
We hopped out, having made sure the coast was clear, and hurried into the safety of our building. Luckily, the way up to our apartment was clear of any people, though Jake was sweet and kept a lookout for me to make sure, just in case. As we nearly ran through the building, I could feel the mess of our lovemaking starting to run down my legs. I grimaced, glad it had taken until now to reveal itself. So close to home, I could easily hop in the shower...
I paused as we opened the door to the apartment. Jake was standing behind me, probably to shelter me from the gaze of anyone that might happen to be awake at this time of night. I staggered in, slowly in a daze.
Low, quiet music was playing.
Small lights flickered throughout the apartment.
The smell of roses and lavender drifted through the air.
Someone had been here. Someone had gone through our space... to set up a romantic scene? The door closed behind us, startling me so badly I jumped, my feet leaving the ground. I spun around, ready to panic as my heart raced in my chest. Instead of standing there, my brother was... kneeling?
My heart clenched and twisted in my chest. Something was in his hands, a small box. He was saying something, though I only caught stray words. Love. Together. Baby. Forever. I'd imagined this moment playing out hundreds of times with every crush and fantasy and possible love interest, but I'd never imagined it with my brother.
There he was, awkwardly smiling up at me. I realized I was clutching my dress, and in trying to relax, it slipped from my grip falling to the floor. Jake glanced at it before looking back up at me, confused. He had finished talking, and I only just realized he was waiting on me to say something.
"You're proposing to me?"
