Sophia's face was buried in her phone as she swiped through her friends' social media photos and responded to comments on their trips and outings throughout town. She spent time checking the number of thumbs ups (likes) beneath her own pics of her and her new beau. The more she had, the bigger her grin extended across her lips, and the giddier she became. She would have preferred a day of being on her phone opposed to going to school that morning despite graduation being a couple months away.
Sophia fell into the category of student that went to bed at the time she was supposed to rise for school. Not because of studying but talking on the phone or partying to her mom's chagrin. That meant spending the first couple of classes with her face snoozing on her desk and a drool puddle in front of her mouth.
When she focused her mind, not many students in her classes could challenge her intellectual acumen, but her interest laid more in social media and Candy Crush than academics. Firing up a joint under the stairs or under the bleachers with her friends and gossiping about boys was infinitely more entertaining. Getting to her senior year of high school proved quite the trial and required a miracle.
Sophia's friends loved her fun-loving and adventurous persona. The teachers loved her for what she had the potential to be. Her mother wished she displayed a lot more of the latter than the former.
Speaking of dear old mom, Olivia placed a plate in front of Sophia of strawberry waffles, a couple pieces of bacon on the verge of becoming well-done, and some sunny side up eggs. Sophia continued thumbing through her phone and made not one move towards the plate despite the mouthwatering aroma.
Sophia and her mom resembled cats hissing and clawing at each other more times than not. Olivia lived in courtrooms and her downtown office more than home with her daughter. While her living gifted them a house in a gated community and they had less monetary concerns than the average family, Sophia would have traded it all for more time with mom. As much as breakfast had her tummy begging for it, she didn't want her mom to think that food could take the place of her years of absenteeism.
Olivia was wearing a black skirt suit with white collared shirt beneath its black jacket. The tips of her straight blonde tresses fell to the middle of her back. Her shape resembled someone who spent a good amount of time on a track or treadmill and pumped a little iron. Her natural breasts were on the verge of popping the buttons of her top free. Long, silky legs sprouted from the bottom of her skirt. Sophia didn't mind her mother's genetic gifts as she drew the envy of other girls and the double and triple takes of the opposite sex herself. Sophia trimmed her raven locks to shoulder length. Aside from that and her eyes being aqua blue with dark eye shadow and her mom's orbs being chocolate brown, they were near splitting images. Sophia was more of a shirt and jeans kind of girl and craved dark colors whereas her mother was always business professional even when taking a trip to the grocery store.
Regardless of any of that, Sophia just wanted mom to be there.
Olivia set her own plate across from her daughter. Sophia heard the clinks of the plate and silverware landing on the oak but not for a second did her attention stray from her device.
"Sophia, honey, I hoped we could have breakfast together. That would give us a chance to have some bonding time," Olivia said but Sophia's phone browsing continued. "Are you listening to me?"
"No, because it will be another year before this happens again."
"I'm making an effort. I know my job takes up a lot of my time but everything you have is because of that."
Sophia dropped her phone on the table and showed her canines. "You don't have to take all the cases you do! Nobody told you to do that but yourself!"
"I'm doing it so that you won't have to pay for college and your only worries will be your studies, which I hope you take more seriously than you have been through high school." Olivia's attempts to reign in her mounting frustration was failing.
"I understand that but sometimes, I'd rather just have you here with me. Is that too much to ask?"
Olivia took Sophia's hand though she tried pulling away before it was captured. "Let's start now. Is that too much to ask?"
Sophia relented a little bit and looked up at her. "Can you promise you'll be at home more?"
"It depends on my schedule but I'll try..."
Sophia ripped away from her mom and stood while snatching her backpack from beneath the table. "I'm not hungry and it's almost time for you to take me to school."
A rush of disgruntled air flew from Olivia's lips and she grumbled something but bit her tongue. "Okay, honey, but I hope you'll give me a chance one day. Everything I do is because I love you."
That always rang true to Sophia. "I know, mom. I'm sorry that I'm being this way but I need to know that you'll try a little harder."
Olivia closed the distance between them and pecked her cheek as the scent of orchids were left in her wake. "I will. I promise that I'll work on loosening my schedule for us."
"Okay, mom," Sophia said as her heart threatened to melt but held herself back until she saw evidence of her change.
A half hour later, Sophia stepped out of her mom's black Mercedes and adjusted the backpack on her shoulders. Olivia lowered the window to project her voice at her daughter.
"Have a great day and study hard! You don't need to screw up this close to graduation!"
"I got it, mom! Study hard, graduate, go to college! I got it!" Sophia said with an affirming thumbs up.
"I love you! Bye!" Olivia said as she took the wheel.
Sophia waved at her mother and watched at the bottom of the stairs leading to the high school until she pulled out of the parking lot and sped down the road out of sight.
She climbed the stairs with a smile and entered the glass doors of the school. She walked past the cases holding the trophies earned by the sports teams over the years and stood at the three-way intersection ahead of her. The bell signifying the beginning of the first class rang and the stragglers' feet picked up speed.
Sophia's class was down the hall to the left but she joined the horde scampering to the right. She blended in with the mass hoping to be a chameleon to the other teachers and assistant principals who were familiar with her truancy and knack for challenging authority.
She eased out of the side of the building and ran for the bleachers at the football field.
In her usual spot beneath the home team's side of the field, she discovered her beau with his hands stuffed in his pockets and shivering to the bones. Every time she saw him, goosebumps popped onto her skin...or was it the fact the city felt like Antarctica?
Her boyfriend was a receiver on the football team and had the height and toned athletic build to prove it. If he didn't have a thin mustache and some facial scruff, he'd look a few years younger.
He would have normally been the voice of reason when it came to most people but for Sophia, he wasn't beyond skipping class or failing to turn in an assignment on time for a lower grade to spend time with her.
"Hey, babe!" Sophia launched herself at Kaden and they went right into their typical greeting of assailing each other's lips in kisses. "How are you?"
Sophia doused herself in her mother's French perfume and began to realize she smelled like the ladies' section in the local department store. She hoped Kaden could overlook her mishap. After all, she did it for his admiration.
"I'm better now but it feels like a freezer out here!" Kaden rubbed his hands up and down her back to warm them and she enjoyed his touch any way she could get it. He hugged her creating an aura of warmth. He pressed his nose to the side of her neck and sniffed causing his girlfriend to giggle. "You smell good. Like your mother."
"Hey!" Sophia jabbed his gut with a smile. "What does that mean? Do you have something for my mom?"
"I...um..." Kaden stammered on purpose with a devious smirk.
"You're a jerk! I should go to class and leave you here!"
"Liar. You want me too much. Besides, you don't even like class!" Kaden narrowed his leering and she mimicked him leading to mutual laughter.
"Hehe, yeah, you got me!"
"I know you too well!"
The season was in the midst of transitioning from winter to spring but if snow dumped on the city, it wouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. Sophia noticed the air biting. She sniffled and had a nose like Rudolph but her excitement granted her resistance to the elements.
"I didn't realize it would be
this
cold but we can do our thing at my house. Mom will be gone until tomorrow morning like always so we'll have the house all to ourselves!"
Kaden shook his head in the negative. "I seriously doubt Ms. Campbell would approve of that. She's nice to me and I wouldn't want to upset her."
"I told you she won't be there. There's nothing to worry about. I promise! Besides..." Sophia cupped Kaden's cock through his pants and he hardened and gasped with eyes like softballs. "You want me to take care of him, don't you?"
"Mmm...you talked me into it. How far is it?" Kaden watched Sophia massaging him in a stupor and probably would have burst if she hadn't stopped.
"I don't know. Mom usually drives me here. It's not far," Sophia said as she took his hand, "come on!"
"Okay, okay!" Kaden agreed and the young couple ran for the house.

When they arrived, Sophia led him to the hallway. They stopped in front of her room but she contemplated the size of her full-sized bed and moved a little further down the corridor.
"Mom's bed is much bigger than mine..." Sophia said as she pushed the door to Olivia's room open to reveal her queen bed covered in violet satin sheets and matching pillows. The headboard was a mirror. More of her perfume lingered in the space. Small lamps with black shades that sat upon white nightstands flanked the bed. The curtains with violet flower designs were already pulled and darkened the space.
"You really want to do this...here?" Kaden asked.
Sophia caressed his cheek. "Will you stop worrying and relax? You're going to spoil the mood, baby."
"Alright, fine. Maybe we can hear her if she comes." Kaden slipped out of his leather jacket and shoes. He tossed the jacket on the back of a chair in the corner by one of the windows.
"That's better..." Sophia nibbled a nail as she watched his black shirt conform to his chiseled frame and if it took another second to get into bed with him, it'd be too long.
She closed the door and dropped her backpack by it. She stepped out of her sneakers and unzipped her hoodie. She laid it upon her boyfriend's jacket.
She dove into the bed and yanked Kaden into it with her. The soothing feeling of the cool satin on her skin and Kaden's arms around her was beyond the best thing she could have imagined. The two rolled to face each other and Sophia pulled the comforter to their shoulders. The toasty heat contributed to her euphoria.
"Mmm...this feels so good!" Kaden exclaimed.
