Learning to Cope with Loss

Chapter 4.

Matt and Lin search for a new home.

Matt started to read the notes on the housing situation. "Well, we should probably not even look at any of the 2 bedroom homes or apartments, we simply cannot afford them. I know that might be cramped and awkward at times. We can alternate the bedroom. There are 3 that might fit our budget within walking distance of the job I have. One more if I drive, but fuel cost will put us way over and I am not sure we can trust the van forever. I think I need to cross that off. Two rooms for rent, and one house with 2 rooms for rent that might be ok. What are your thoughts on this?"

Lin was amazed he already thought about the location and additional costs. "Honestly, if you thought that through we should look at each one in order of the cheapest to highest. I agree on the fuel cost, unless there is nothing else."

Matt asked, "Cheapest is a room for rent, actually first two cheapest are both rooms, then the 2 rooms in one house. How would that work? Do you think someone would rent to a brother and sister in one room?"

Lin thought some might see an issue with that, but the houses were in a low income area, people needed a room and people needed the rent income. "Well we can ask and see, if it is an issue they can say no. It would give us the most to save and be better off. I don't mind sharing a bed and stuff to save money."

Matt and Lin agreed to look at the first 3 options, today if possible and then move on to the more expensive options after that. Matt called all three, they were all were ok to show today.

At the first house there were a lot of crack heads at the local store they had to walk past to get there. Matt was uneasy but they checked it out anyways. Matt asked the guy about utility splitting, shared bathroom, kitchen, etc., then he asked, "So if this works out, it will be ok if me and my sister rent it together?"

The guy showing it said, "Listen, I don't care if all you do is fuck your sister in there and invite your mom and dad for orgies. If you pay the rent and your share of the power on time go ahead and have your sick twisted way in the room with whoever you want. Just no drugs. There is enough of that already around here"

Matt attempted to correct the man, "Oh, it's not like that, we just don't have a lot and are trying to get on our feet quicker."

The man said, "Like I said, I don't care. I have seen it all. I know how these things work out, after a week or so of sharing a room with a beauty like her you will fuck her, and looking at her I would not blame you! I fucked both my sister's fine asses at that age. Oh, man, they were hot and so was the sex!" He was actively checking out Lin at that moment.

Matt was uneasy, but knew he had seen nothing else so needed to stay in good graces with this man as a last resort or a first resort if he never really had to actually see this guy. He ended the conversation and said, "Well, thanks for letting us look, we have 2 more to look at, this is not bad though."

They walked to then next place needing to pass by the corner store. Crack heads tweaking out on the street. He asked her, "Can you believe that guy? What kind of an ass would talk like that about a brother and sister and then check you out like you or I was not there."

Lin responded, "Honestly Matt, I think it is better that I know his intentions checking me out, that way I can be weary." Lin never mentioned a response to the brother and sister comment, honestly she did not care about any stigmas around incest. She was not in love or attracted to her brother that she knew of. Recently, before he passed at least, she had started to look at her father in a way a daughter probably should not. She did not want to feel guilty about her feelings, so she accepted them. Her brother was a younger version of her father and she reckoned he would grow into a similar man. She could live with that.

At the next place it was nicer and no crack heads in sight. There was a decent looking woman who lived there showing the room, it had a private bathroom and the living room was adorn with Christian stuff like crosses, photos of the lord etc. Matt and Lin were not expecting the homeowner to entertain the brother and sister pair. After the same extra lines of questions about the rent, Matt broached the subject about Lin, his sister, as a roommate after Lin had walked outside to look in the backyard. "So, if we like this option could me and my sister live here?" adding to be sure there was no misconception, "We just need something cheaper, budget wise since we are all we have, we are wanting to stay together. Until we are back on our feet."

The lady said, "Oh, that is not an issue. I assumed you were a couple the way you were. Incest is nothing new to this house, so it does not bother me at all honey. In fact if you let me watch I will cut off 50 bucks month. I miss my brother, god rest his soul, getting to see the love of a brother and sister would be a nice reminder of the good times him and I shared."

Matt was not expecting that out of this seemingly Christian lady, how was it that both people he talked to today were into incest. Maybe it was a common occurrence and he was blind to it. He needed to not burn this bridge also, honestly it was a better deal because of the neighborhood, he had no intention of fucking his sister and letting this woman watch for 50 bucks off. He thought of a joke in his head, 'Make it 100 bucks and we have a deal', he chuckled internally at his joke.

Matt replied, "Thanks ma'am I will keep that in mind, but seriously we are not together, like I said."

The lady said, "You don't know what kind of love you are missing. It is never just sex with family, it is a love like no other."

Matt said as Lin walked back in, "I will keep that in mind."

The lady said to Lin as they left, "Take care of him honey, you two are good people." Then she said to Matt, "No matter what you decide about the room. I am hoping you take my advice. You will not regret it."

As they walked out and down the road Lin asked, "What was she talking about Matt?"

Matt was red-faced, he wanted to tell her but he was embarrassed even if he was not the cause of the embarrassment. "She said she wanted us to rent and if we ended up as a couple she wanted to watch us go at it for a reduced rent. Can you believe her and that guy earlier? Also she told me she used to fuck her brother before he died."

Lin gasped, "Well, either you are telling me this because you are later going to try to use it as justification and reasoning to get in my pants or you just cannot understand that people actually commit incest. I mean how much money was she talking about?"

Matt replied matter-of-factly before realizing the insanity of how she reacted, "Fifty dollars, wait, what are you saying, you don't seem phased about they whole incest thing, are you sick in the head Lin?" He asked her, not like he was accusing her of being immorally corrupt, but more of a joke as he smirked at her.

Lin simply said, "Matt, I think we have bigger stuff to deal with before we are concerned about incest between consenting adults. My guess is incest in this world is more common then we are led to believe. If you are concerned or curious about my opinion, honestly I don't care who fucks who."

Matt was dumbfounded by her nonchalant attitude on the subject of incest, "I never knew you had such liberal opinions. I have never really thought too deeply about it, but I assumed most people and likely you thought it was taboo."

They talked some about the last 2 places and how they could work for them. Sooner then they thought they arrived at the last house for the day. This was by far the nicest place yet. The 2 two rooms was the more expensive option, but they could afford it.

The man showed up in his car, it looked like a late model car. The man did not live here himself, however he did say that he would stay there when he needed. He was married by the ring on his finger and the master bedroom had it's own bath and that was not to be rented out. Each of the 2 other rooms also had bathrooms. He had remodeled the house to make it this way, there was no common bathroom. The laundry, kitchen and living room was shared. The back yard was fenced and had a hot tub and pool. They did share the power bill, however water, sewer and garbage was included. Matt also explained his work situation just getting a new job.

Matt decided to just go for his question without trying to preface it this time, There were 2 rooms so it was likely less of an issue. "So, my sister Lin and I like this, we have looked at a few other places today. If we were to choose this how soon could we move in?"

The man whose name was Max looked at Matt and said, "I have another guy who just put a deposit down on one room, although he did not select which one, so I also showed you both of them. I was sure you were a couple interested in one room not both, otherwise I would have said something right a way. Don't worry, the other guy travels and only needs it a few days a month and seems like a good person, but I can't rent both. I also need the master for myself. I entertain some ladies a few times a month if you know what I mean." Max laughed.

Matt should have been sickened by this man admitting to actively cheating on his wife but like Lin said, they had more important stuff to worry about then other peoples low moral ethics. Matt also realized that this one room even with the power was cheaper alone and nicer then the other two places and by his estimates about 10 minute closer to work when walking. Matt then asked, "So assuming my sister wanted, could we rent the one room, we really need something." Matt tried to not sound desperate and hopeful but at the same time wanted to make the man want to rent it to him.

The man smiled as they stood in one of the spare rooms, "I don't mind renting it to you. I will let you in on a little secret, the main reason I bought this place was to have a place closer to my sister, a place were we could fuck without her husband or my wife knowing. I convinced my wife I would make money on this 'rental' but I loose a lot of money here, not just the mortgage, but the maintenance, pool guy alone costs a fortune. Man is it worth it to see the sluts I bring here in them skimpy bikini's. You know what I mean, huh Matt."

Again for the millionth time today Matt should have been surprised but acted un-affected, this man was not only cheating on his wife, but loosing a ton of money cheating on her with his own sister as well. She must have been a knockout in the sack to loose possible close to a grand a month just to have somewhere to fuck her. Matt asked, "Can I talk to my sister privately please for just a moment?"

Max said, "Sure I need to go clean up my room anyways, take your time, no rush, just don't mess up the bed too much."

The man walked out of the room closing the door behind him, Lin spoke first, "We should do this. It is furnished and a lot cheaper with better stuff. Almost like a dream really Matt."

Matt said, "I agree, but I don't want him to think we are too anxious about it. The issue is he wants the four hundred at the start. I can't give him that until after I am paid, I hope he can hold it for 3 weeks."

Lin said, "You could sell the van?"

Matt thought that might work, although it was all they really had to their name.

Matt and Lin went to knock on his master bedroom door. The man opened it and talked to them in the doorway, "Well, that was fast." Then he looked at Lin adding, "I hope he is not normally that fast!"

Matt blushed and Lin decided to play along saying, "No he has more stamina when I need it. He knows when to make it fast."

Her comment really surprised Matt, but he also thought she was trying to get him to think they were more understanding. Matt spoke up, "Max, we would like to take this. I can give you two hundred now and the other two hundred on day one. Will three weeks Saturday work for a start date? I wanted to wait for my first paycheck from the job I mentioned earlier or if that does not work I can sell my van in the next few days and start earlier."
