Thank you for reading my story, I hope that you enjoy it. A short story with a different perspective on the Alien invasion. Mica. Xx Yorkshire England.
I rushed home as fast as I could and rushed inside.
"Mum, Mum," I called, "Mum where are you?"
She came out of the kitchen, fortunately she was dressed, "What?"
"Quick, grab your keys, we have to go to the supermarket and I mean now."
"Why?"
"Hurry, I will tell you on the way."
She grabbed her keys and we rushed to the car and she drove to Tesco, our nearest supermarket.
"Aliens mum, they are coming, they are in the sky, we need to grab food before everyone else thinks of it and then we can't get any."
"What do you mean aliens, don't be daft."
"I am not mum, they are here honest to God, they are."
The Tesco carpark was already looking full.
"Just park anywhere mum, hurry will you."
She parked her car in the first space she found, we grabbed a trolley each and joined the others all jostling to get inside.
"Mum, dried pasta, tins of tuna, tins of meat, long life milk, tea bags, bottled water, tins of tomatoes, cereal, flour. Okay, just grab some of everything that is long life. Don't go for frozen foods, we don't know if the electric will stay on."
We both filled our trolleys and then joined the long checkout queue and eventually paid and got back to the car and basically we filled the boot and the floor well behind the front seats.
"Petrol," mum said, and joined the queue for fuel, about ten cars in front of us. It took us about thirty minutes to get to the pump. There were big signs saying "NO FUEL CONTAINERS ALLOWED" I guessed that was to stop people hoarding fuel. We had a gallon of petrol at home in the garage, it was old and was used in the lawn mower, so we wouldn't be filling a container anyway.
"Back on the drive mum," I said, "it won't be so obvious to people passing that we have a car full of food."
We emptied the car as quickly as we could and then I had an idea. I grabbed the car jack from behind the back seat and jacked the car up and took off the front passenger side wheel, and wheeled it into the hall. The wheel nuts I put in the glovebox in the car. I put some bricks under the suspension and lowered the car off the jack. If we needed the car it would take me less than five minutes to put the wheel on, but the car was useless to anyone that tried to steal it.
I helped mum sort all the food, we put some of everything in each room, just in case. We drew all the curtains at the front of the house and locked and dead bolted the front door.
"I think we should only open the door to the police mum, I reckon things are going to go to shit real soon."
"Language Simon, just because the world is ending, doesn't mean that you can swear."
We sat and watched the events unfold from our sofa, mum pressing herself into me, always following me around, even standing outside when I went to the loo, wanting me to stand outside when she went to the loo.
"I'm scared Simon, really scared, don't leave me alone," she said as she clung onto me on the sofa.
